A: very dark ruby red, very thin later of off white head
S: Bourbon, caramelized sugars, syrup, coconut
T: Bourbon taste blends perfectly with other flavors, vanilla, coconut. Smooth start, alcohol finish.
M: very sticky, dry
Overall: Great beer, this is the third year in a row I have made a special trip to buy it. I loved the 2011 batch, 2012 was good, I am loving the 2013 batch.

Bottle dated 10/3/13, poured into snifter, 1 in white head settled rather quick. Color is very dark brown.

Aroma - caramel malts, bourbon, oak, toasted coconut

Taste - malty sweetness, toffee, caramel, ever so slight bourbon

Mouthfeel - carbonation seems on the lower side, nice medium to strong body, smooth drinking but slightly sticky finish

overall - top tier BA beer. I'm a big fan of Scotch ales and this delivered! Compared to BA barleywines or stouts, this seems a lot more balanced "fresh" from the bottling date, honestly I'm not sure if aging this would help much, but since I got a 4 pack, it's worth saving 1 for 6 months and 1 for a year I'm thinking.

Had the pleasure of trying this on-tap at the Farmhouse Tap & Grill in Burlington, Vt., last season. Enjoyed it so much that I couldn't pass up a mispriced 4-pack this season for $12/4pk.

A: Caramel, burgundy.

S: Bourbon, vanilla, coconut, brown sugar, maple.

T: Just as I remembered it. Strong coconut, vanilla, maple, and dried fruit. My Vermonter friend described it as "coconut maple candy." It's a dessert in and of itself.

M: Adequate, could be slightly better, but very well done.

O: Not having been able to get my hands on KBS, this is by far my favorite Founders beer. Granted, I lucked out in that I only had to pay $12 for a 4-pack but hey, I'd pay $15 or whatever it should be selling for. It's not something I could or would want to drink every night, but it hit the spot on a chilly Vermont November evening.
