Very Good
Unraveled IPAUnraveled IPA
Notes: Formerly 'Mothership Series #7: Mucho Lupu'

We unraveled some of our favorite American hops to get to the juicy goodness inside. Dry hopped with traditional hop pellets along with lupulin powder, an innovative hop product that separates lupulin from the hop flower, Unraveled IPA is incredibly flavorful and aromatic. Wheat and oats form a smooth backdrop to carry all those wonderful hop characteristics, while the pour is beautifully clear.

Presentation: 12 oz. can with the canning date printed on the bottom. Served in a Willi Becher glass.

Appearance: The one and a half finger, bright white head goes away fairly quickly and leaves behind some patchy lacing. It's a bright, hazy yellow color.

Smell: It's a fruity aroma of orange and grapefruit peels. It finishes with a touch of malty sweetness and some piney hop.

Taste: It's juicy and fruity with with mostly orange and grapefruit. A strong-ish hoppy bitterness balances things out in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: It's medium bodied and quite crisp with medium-high carbonation.

Overall: A juicy, refreshing beer that's citrusy and easy to drink. A solid offering from Founders but it doesn't exactly excel in any single aspect.

Hazy gold color. Big white head, some lace.
Aroma of sweet malt, citrus fruit, and pine.
Taste starts out with grapefruit, which leads to a dank and piney taste. Caramel background.
On the malty side.
Very nice.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in an IPA glass

This beer pours a golden hue with a slight haze. It is topped with several inches of off white head that leaves spotty lacing.

The smell is citrus and earthy with some melon. I also get some biscuit from the malt. Light pine rounds it out.

The taste is dank and earthy. I get grapefruit and pine in the finish with a lingering bitterness.

Medium mouthfeel with a smooth mouthfeel with a little bit of a bite.

This is more of a west coast IPA. It is well made. I really wish Founders had a strong IPA game. Then they would be the only brewery that I would ever need to buy from. Fat Heads needs to merge with Founders and create the best brewery in the Universe.

Golden yellow in color with very good clarity. Poured with a short, white foam with medium low retention. Aromas of over-ripe pineapple husk, citrus orange, and resinous earthy notes. Medium malty backbone. Medium bodied with medium carbonation with mellow warmth through the finish. Citrus and fruity flavors with medium bitterness. Resinous flavors with light fruity notes and tapering bitterness on the back end. Finished with light pine hop bitterness with resinous notes and underlying hints of fruit. Interesting hop complexity with a solid malty backbone and balancing hop bitterness.

Impressive four-finger head on the initial pour. The liquid is a lighter gold with a mild haze. As the head recedes in a dome, it leaves webs for lace.

Equal parts weedy and earthy to the nose. Very low hop spice to the smell.

The start of the taste is nice pale malt with no notable sugars (dry). The bittering hop is distinctive on the tongue bringing white pepper to the palate. The body is neutral and the carbonation leans to the lower side. The aftertaste is particularly bitter creating a very long aftertaste.

This smells great..a ton of tropical notes...almost malibu rum like....coconut, pineapple, a touch of mango....also some bright mandarin oranges.

Flavor follows suit. Very tropical and big on the coconut/pineapple notes.

Pours a clean looking gold with a perfect white head of about 1/4 inch.

Drinks tight without an overwhelming sweetness. Not WC IPA or close but not one of those sticky sweet hazy renditions.

Only complaint is it feels a little thin in body. I had to double check and make sure this wasn't a lower ABV style IPA and it isn't. It's not a huge knock but it is lighter in body than most IPA's. It's also cleaner.

I like this and will buy it again.

Canned on 3/3/20. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with nice clarity; creamy white head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are on the mild and subtle side. Hints of citrus and floral notes. Some fresh bread and crackers. Malts are there. The flavors are clean and refreshing. More citrus and floral notes. Lots of fresh grass. Hints of pine. More bread and crackers. Moderate bitterness. Low sweetness. Malts do their thing. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.

This is an okay IPA. It's honestly nothing crazy, but it's not bad or anything. It's basically your "middle of the road" IPA. It's refreshing stuff. Not Founders best hoppy beer, in my opinion, but once again it's not bad or anything.

Brew pours a light lemon-yellow color, a touch too pale for an IPA. Good head production, decent retention, and very nice lacing. Crystal clear.

Incredibly herbal and moderately dank nose, even from several feet away. Much more dank up close, along with pepper and bright herbs, along with some tropical fruit, in particular pineapple.

Flavor follows, with lemon and pineapple primary, yielding to moderate dankness and melon. Very tasty beer; certainly nothing special, and not the best IPA Founders has put out, but very pleasant enough. Crisp and lively.

Lighter side of gold body capped by a fluffy white foam that laces the sides of the glass. Looks inviting. Smells of pineapple, citrus and wheat. Taste is a nice tropical hit of melon, pineapples, unripe papaya. Synopsis: It’s got dank roots but the body while hinting at creaminess is on the lighter side for a 6.6% ABV. Nice bitterness against a wheat like backbone finishes clean With lingering citrus pith. It’s juicy as advertised and very easy IPA to drink. Great beer from Founders at a nice price too. Will buy more!
