Notes / Commercial Description:
We love cocktails. Like, really love them. If you ask us, few are more refreshing than the tart and tangy margarita and our latest barrel-aged beer pays tribute to that perennial classic. We took an imperial gose brewed with agave, lime and sea salt and then aged it in tequila barrels for just the right amount of kick. Consider it a party in a bottle. Más Agave!

Pours a dark golden color with a little bit of white head that fizzes away quickly. Smell is lime, tequila, and salt. Primarily lime. Taste is lime, sweeter to start with, some tequila, agave, hint of salt towards the end. Very much a margarita flavor. Feel is fairly light for the ABV, easy to drink. Overall is a BA beer I could drink in hotter weather, it's a little sweet and tart but that really lends to the margarita feel of the drink. It's tasty, shoulda cracked one with last night's burrito dinner.

Had on tap. Founders is just doing what they love, and I am digging it. This is a great fun and lighthearted beer for summertime, oh wait what? It's 10% abv? Woof! The scary part is you don't really taste is at all. Sure the tequila barrel is very much there in tequila booze and slight wood, but the margarita profile of huge lime and salt, with supporting lemon, honey, and the sappy agave. Smells just like a margarita, crazy. Feel is pretty acidic for a gose, but despite the adjuncts it still feels like a gose in most ways. Feel like you can take this two way, kill it for technical beer aspects missing, or have fun in the sun with it. I choose the latter!

Poured at 55 degrees. Honey color. A cloudy look with a half inch head that stayed with the brew for a while. There are strong lime notes here. It struck me as sweet, with a sour forward taste. I have 3 more left, so I'll taste it again to get a better Idea.

12oz bottle date 4/29/19. Poured into a Founders chalice.

Pour: Golden amber. Small, bubbly head that leaves a few clouds and a ring.

Nose: sea water, lime, some tequila.

Taste: margarita. Plain and simple. And some maltiness that works well together. But, I found the lime and tartness became overpowering the more I drank and didn’t finish the bottle.

Mouthfeel: pretty thick but not overdone.

Overall: I’m not a big sour fan but this is decent. Would work best with Mexican food, of course, but good with a burger as well. But, I can’t see opening one to drink by itself. Just too much sour, salt, punch on its own. Worth trying, worth ordering with food.

A - Hazy medium garnet copper color with dense lacing.

S - Lime hits the nose first followed with light salt and tequila. This beer literally smells like a margarita.

T - Tangy lime, sea salt, tequila.

M - Thick and viscous mouthfeel.

O - This is a beer that will be polarizing on the hate / like scale, hands down.

From the back label: "Bottled On: 04.30.19 0921 6 10.0% alc./vol."

Appearance: The body is a burnished copper color that is opaque. It has a large white head with good retention.

Aroma: There is an interesting mixture of cherry tootsie roll pop, bay leaf, sage, and wood chips. the strongest aroma here is cherry.

Taste: There is this massive cherry flavor which is a bit tart and then turns a bit buttery towards the middle. There is a caramel flavor and a bit of cream. There is a hint of cinnamon spice and a bit of nutmeg. There are so many unidentifiable flavors that are just shooting around the palate.

Mouthfeel: It feels thick and creamy with a solid weight on the palate. There is a tartness that cuts at the beer. It is the kind of beer that you have to pause before consuming because there is so much going on.

Overall: It is a very busy and interesting beer. There is no shortage of flavors, aromas, or experience in this beer. It is a "must try" beer that I would both highly recommend and drink again. It is highly impressive and loaded to the brim with not only character, but unique character.

On tap at Jealous Monk. Pours a chesnutty brownish orange with almost no head. Some lacing. The aroma is a good amount of tequila along with lime, salt and lemon. The taste is mostly the lime and salt upfront followed by some tequila barrel. Tastes like a beer margarita. Not as boozey as expected by the ABV and barrel aging. Finishes with more Gose than margarita flavor, if that makes sense. Medium to light body with low carbonation. Overall, this works really well and is worth seeking out.

Pours an effervescent and hazed amber with 2 fingers of cream colored head. Some lacing, less head retention

S: Tons of lime, then it kinda fades

T: Dryness, a little saltyness, a little Tequila hit as well up front. More lime, agave, dryness & salt as this warms. Finishes dry, salty with the mandatory Tequila components

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation

Hits all the right notes, nice blend of flavors

Bottle to wine glass. (Should have made it a margarita glass with some salt on the rim. )

LOOK: pale brownish yellow, small eggshell head; head fades fast and poor retention.
AROMA: Margarita! Lime and Tequila, hint of orange. Tequila dominates, but it is all very smooth.
TASTE: Sour lime, cactus, tequila, salt. Again...margarita. Touch of wood is also present. Too much at first, but like any strong drink, I appreciated this more as I drank.
FEEL: medium body, minimal carbonation, but the saltiness and smoothness from the barrel keep this respectable.

Great interpretation from Founders.

First beer my wife didn't think it tasted like beer. Tastes like a sweet margarita. You get like and salt, in taste and smell. I don't know what was added by aging in a tequila barrel but I might add a shot of tequila or even whiskey and make this a cocktail.

This beer was good but in all honesty I wanted more sourness from the gose style whereas it was more sugary sweet. You can definitely taste salt, lime, agave, tequila, sugar, and honey with malty hops but when it comes down to it this beer just tasted like a cheap margarita from the bar that used well tequila. More I drink it I like it but would rather enjoy a margarita made with some top shelf tequila.

Looks nice, dark amber, clear, minimal head. Smells like a maragarita, salty, tangy, lime, agave, tastes like one too - citrusy lime, tart, salty, smooth, minimal alcohol warmth at 10%. This is super refreshing, tasty, crushable.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/23/2019. Pours moderately hazy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big juicy limes, citrus peel/zest, lemon, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, vanilla, tequila, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, honey, agave, wheat, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of limes, fruity/acidic yeast, agave, sea salt, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge juicy limes, citrus peel/zest, lemon, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, vanilla, tequila, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, honey, agave, wheat, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang; light zesty bitterness, and tequila/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy limes, citrus peel/zest, lemon, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, vanilla, tequila, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, honey, agave, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of limes, fruity/acidic yeast, agave, sea salt, and bready malt flavors; with a fantastic malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; with zero cloying/puckering flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingeirng tartness, tangy fruit, and tequila/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, fairly acidic/tangy, and lightly tannic/saline mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 10%, with zero barrel booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged imperial flavored gose! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of limes, fruity/acidic yeast, agave, sea salt, and bready malt flavors; dangerously smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; amazingly soft feel, and not overly lactic/salty. Perfectly balanced between juicy/vibrant limes, Lacto complexity, agave, and tequila barrel presence/integration; with a nice sized rich pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example for the ABV. Very similar to the SN one, but richer from the high ABV. This was everything I hoped it would be.
