Formerly know as Más Agave.

We love cocktails. Like, really love them. If you ask us, few are more refreshing than the tart and tangy margarita and our latest barrel-aged beer pays tribute to that perennial classic. We took an imperial gose brewed with agave, lime and sea salt and then aged it in tequila barrels for just the right amount of kick. Consider it a party in a bottle. Más Agave!

With its potency and added flavors, a brown twelve ounce bottle is likely all that will be needed for an accurate assessment. A single pour emptied the bottle into a clear pint glass beautifully. The just-off-white head is appropriate and enduring. Lime and agave aromas are pronounced. The brew itself is a brown-amber, more bright than dull and more clear than cloudy. This delivers all as advertised in a big way. It's a Margherita beer, as it brings the tequila, lime and salt sensations within a beer medium. For what it promises, this is almost amazing. Now, the question: Is this a good marriage? Well, it's not a bad one. As good as the combination works, for a beer, it's too limey and too salty to the taste. That may help conceal the 10% ABV, which won't be noticed until ten minutes have passed since the first gulps. This really is almost nothing more than that Margherita in a beer, so those that don't like lime, salt and/or tequila in their beer best not try this. Overall, it's successful at delivering many of the characteristics of a Margherita, but sacrificing the good things about beer to do it. The effort is a good one and this is a should at least try for anyone not adverse to the overall Margherita taste.

Surprisingly delicious. No hint of tequila to me. Refreshing with just the right amount of punch.

Mas Agave Clasica Lime from Founders. 12 oz bottle. Purchased from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA, on 30/01/23 for $ 14.50 (Including tax) a four-pack ($ 0.302/oz). Stored on room temperature shelf at store and 34 degrees at home. Reviewed 03/02/23 (Review 3029). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Printed on back label “BOTTLED ON 03.28.22 1550 6” and “2022 Release”. Served at 41.3 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 51.0 degrees.
Appearance – 3.75
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), hazy.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear lite, same but translucent.
Head – Average (Maximum two cm, aggressive center pour), sea salt, high density, short retention, quickly receding to a 0.2 cm crown fed by carbonation, and a rocky partial cap.
Lacing – Good. Hindi characters above a tight band of near-microscopic bubbles – this band eventually breaks into torn curtains.
Aroma – 3.5 – Faint whiff of lime and salt. Maybe a hint of tequila or mezcal, ephemeral at best. No hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 4.5 – Acidic, smoky, limey and bitter but refreshing. No ethanol (10.0 % ABV as marked on label) aroma or taste. No particular barrel flavors. Slight gastric warming occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, slightly syrupy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Very refreshing after a year sitting on a room-temperature shelf at the store. Better than some Margaritas I’ve purchased and double the usual Gose strength. Just plain good – I wish I’d tried it fresh!

Trying and enjoying Daycap made me consider what other BA offerings from Founders I've ignored as they were not in my proverbial wheelhouse.
Enter Mas Agave.
Poured into a pint glass (I really should find out what type of glass a gose uses) a very nice amber color that leans toward copper and the very short manila colored head doesn't dissipate so much as cling to the sides of the glass as it's consumed.
The aroma is mild for me, as most are (damaged nose) but there was some odd salty citrus stuff - I tried to define it as lime but failed.
The taste is where this one separates itself from the pack. They claim to have aimed for a margarita and to my taste buds, they came dared close. Lime, tequila, salt, I'd have sworn there was even triple sec in there. All of this, somehow, in a beer format.
The feel, for what should be a summer beverage and thus crisp and clean was a touch on the viscous side. I suppose margarita's are as well, but this is a beer. Small quibble, I know.
OA, it constantly amazes me what Kaminsky can do with beer. It really is reminiscent of drinking a margarita. As that was what he was aiming for, got to give him the props.

This might be my all time favorite summer drink. I say drink rather than beer because Founder’s Mas Agave is more like having a cocktail than a beer. Poured into a snifter it’s a golden orange color with a small head. The smell is probably the least impressive aspect of this beer. I pick up citrus/lime and grain but that’s about it. Mas Agave really shines in the taste. If you close your eyes you can likely convince yourself you’re sipping a margarita. You get the salt, the lime, and tequila, coupled with the 10% ABV it definitely feels and tastes more like a cocktail than a beer. I’ve had all the various versions, grapefruit, prickly pear, and lime and in my opinion the original lime is the best.

I poured a cold one into a pint glass. The beer has a good look... much like a pumpkin beer, tan/orange, a bit more teak colored. The smell is mystifying... hops and grain are there, but overwhelmed by an citrus alcohol smell far closer to a mixed drink than a beer, no doubt from the Tequila barrels, a bit on the medicinal witch hazel/rubbing alcohol side. That jarring first impression is instantly neutralized on your first sip. You get the sour/gose taste from limes, which snap your taste buds to attention., Salt, tequila, sugar complement the lime. I have never experienced a beer anything like this! I actually feel like I am enjoying a margarita in beer clothing... and it is is absolutely delicious! There is modest lacing all the way down. Looks like a beer, tastes like a cocktail, the 10% ABV seems perfect for the style. As Monty Python used to say, "And now, something COMPLETLY different!"

Gose
Founders Brewing
Mas Agave Lime
ABV: 10%
Date:04/01/2021
This will complete my trifecta for the imperial gose by Founders. It is hard to grasp an Imperial Gose beer with this high of an ABV. The beer is served in a pokal, around 38 degrees. The pour created a frothy and creamy off-white head with okay retention. The slow dissipation did leave bits of lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 10, amber color with light copper hues. The clarity is clear with a few carbonation bubbles present. Generally, a Gose has a quick head with no lacing, but this one is different. The appearance is beautiful.
The initial aromas are caramel, salt, limes, and tequila. Nosing the glass further, I smell crackers, alcohol, and fruity sweetness.
Tequila and lime dominate the flavor profile. Sipping the beer and swirling it around the palate, I taste bread, caramel, salt, crackers, and lightly toasted malts.
The mouthfeel is sticky and sweet. The body of the beer is medium with low carbonation. The finish of the beer is clean and crisp.
This beer is loaded with lime and tequila flavors and sweeter than a traditional Gose. The beer is tasty and I know Founders designed this beer to breach the traditional Gose profile. I do enjoy this beer but it is sweeter than I prefer.
