Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Previously known as Hand of Doom.

Doom may be impending but that doesn't mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our Imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from the time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

Really nice for the age that it was. Midly sweet with a lasting hop presence, the bourbon was a nice touch but it was definitely on the verge of sweet fruits. Very good overall, golden ale with white head that didn't stick around. Smell was sweet, hoppy, bourbon.

Poured from 750ml capped brown bottle into a clear glass tulip. Purchased at WIne Warehouse (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Hazy peach golden with 1/2 finger of off-white head with decent retention and a few spots of lacing.

S: Coconut, bourbon, pineapple, and medium caramel malts. Hopping gives more pine and grapefruit but it is sweetened with the barrel notes.

T: Flavor is great, reminiscent of Allagash Curieux when fresh with big coconut, vanilla, oak, and bourbon notes merging with light citrus and pine hop components. There is plenty of sweeter caramel character as well with some bready pale maltiness. Not too much booze but enough alcohol character to get your attention. Bitterness is medium to medium-high.

M: Lush without being heavy with even carbonation and overall slick, oily feel in the finish.

O: Doom is an unsung beer with stellar BB notes on top of a balanced DIPA leaving a lot of really interesting flavor combos.

Very strong and bitter first enter the mouth, getting better after more zips. A little fruity flavor hiding in under the bourbon note.

L - crystal, fossilized amber with a luxurious white head. Just looks super creamy and full of alcohol. Elegant and mature in its rusty copper aura.

S - lively mixture of oak and warm orange hops. Lemon meringue creaminess and apricot. Caramel whiskey and cereal grain.

T - the bourbon and vanilla immediately pop, but the hops add a strange brightness to it all. Most BBA stuff is doom n' gloom, but this exudes a certain vigor. The booze is definitely present and separates in the throat with a slight burn as it melds with the bitter hops. Wood chips and slight acidity. Orange candy. Finishes semi-dry with more of a whiskey finish complemented by a bitterness that sneaks up on your as you're focused on the wood.

F - shockingly drinkable for its ABV. Low carb that is still lively and not much "legs" on the finish, meaning it quickly peeters out, demanding another sip. Dangerous.

O - always a favorite. Unique beer that clashes at points, but it's adventurous and I like that. Strong, earthy barrel and biting hops. Doom.
