Founders DoomFounders Doom

Brewed by:
Founders Brewing Company
Michigan, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Previously known as Hand of Doom.

Doom may be impending but that doesn't mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our Imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from the time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

8.5oz pour into a mini pilsner glass. Review from Saturday's notes.

A: Pours a hazy golden with a solid white head. Average amount of visible carbonation in the body. Leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

S: Bourbon notes are strong and the hoppiness takes a backseat. Mild sweetness from the malt and bourbon. Quite pleasant.

T: Very smooth bourbon blend. The hop fruintess really hold strong and delivers it flavor. Starts off with note of bourbon, then the hop takes over for a few seconds before more sweet bourbon finishes it off.

M: Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation with a touch of stickiness. Not hot like one would expect from a bourbon beer does warm nicely though.

Overall an interesting bourbon beer here as its not your typical stout. The hop citrus and bourbon blended much better than I expected. Would love to get this one again.

Starts boozy but turns to perfection after initial sip. Pineapple notes are outstanding, ends with vanilla and toffee with the perfect amount of bitterness.

It is not the most economical beers out thee but it is one of my favorites for sure. I wish I could drink it more but I need to pay my bills!

Had this on tap at Founders 4 or 5 years ago and was blown away by this beer. Has a side by side with KBS, CBS, and Doom, and while i loved all 3, Doom was my favorite. I was excited when I found out that Founders was going to include Doom as part of this backstage series this year. Pours a golden amber with minimal lacing into my tulip. Nose is somewhat similar to a barleywine, although a bit more subtle than the standard barleywine. A bit of coconut on the nose, followed closely with some citrus notes. This beer really shines with the first sip. Citrus, coconut, bourbon, sweet malt, hoppy bitterness, all meld into a perfect beer. This is a great beer.
