A- Clear amber color, a tad bit hazy which I really like. About a fingers worth of head. Leaves a nice lacing on the side of the glass as the beer is consumed.

S- Citrus and Fruity scent with a background of earthy hops.

T- Delicious! Very strong citrus and earthy hop profile followed by a caramel malty taste. The hops were more than I expected from this beer, although they are not overwhelming. No alcohol taste in this beer.

M- Chewy resin like feel as the beer is in my mouth and as soon as I swallow it, it leaves a wonderful aftertaste. this. Feels quite thick

D- This is one highly drinkable beer due to the lack of the hint of alcohol. Probably could drink this as a session beer. A real Michigan treat!

Pours a very cloudy dirty dark orange. Minimal head with a few bubbles of lacing. Nose- hop perfume from the fragrant centennials and cadied caramel sweetness. Taste- caramel and cookie malth, woody hops with a some citrus. Finishes with a bitter zip of hops. Carbonation is medium and so is the body. Has some soapy, aspirin like aftertaste.

Unfiltered so a cloudy burnt orange in color even when held up to the light. A buttery toffee aroma accent the scents of grapefruity centennial hops, roasted malt and something that has this reporter thinking a dash of honey. A slight head dissipates pretty quickly, leaving a slight film at the top of the beer along with a decent amount of lacing.
A sweet yet tart hop zing is the first thing noticed in the taste. Very much citrus-like with a bunch of earthy notes. The malts follow it up with a caramel sweetness smoothing out some of the zesty bitterness with creamy qualities. Here's an IPA that ends with a dryness that is something almost wet and tart. All in all PERFECTION!

i have had this beer before, i just popped one now for a review

first off this been was introduced to me as "the 2nd best ipa in the country next to Bell's two heart"

its really good, pretty low ibus and im a hops guy
but this one works

its very smooth and has a good head
awesome and well balanced

my only two gripes, the high abv makes it a hard session beer and it was a twist off... im a big believer in the anti oxidizing powers of the pop off(it also feels better on the lips) but im sure founders will change eventually they do everything else so damn well

I got 2 bottles of this delicious brew, one from tburkhart and one from jamal32, Thanks Tim and Thanks Jamie!

12oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.

L - hazy orange/copper color with a beige head that left some lacing.

S - fragrant citrus hop aroma.

T - very well balanced brew, the citrus hop taste bites hard upfront but there is enough malt backbone to calm things down on the finish.

F - medium bodied with a creamy smooth feel.

D - goes down easy for a brew that's over 7% abv.

Pours a hazy coppery color with a large two inch yellowed head on top. Good retention and some lacing.

The aroma is nice. A good hop profile, Citrusy and piney with a bit of malt sweetness to round it out. Slightly spicey as well.

The taste is pretty nice. A decent hop profile giving some piney and citrusy notes with a bit of bitterness on the finish. A fair amount of balance can be found in this IPA as it has a decent malt profile.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and gently but well carbonated.

Drinkability is high. It's a solid IPA, easy to drink, nice flavors, and quite enjoyable.

Another solid brew from the good people at Founders!

Poured into a pint glass from a 12oz bottle.

Pours a light brown/copper with head that holds on to the glass like its life depended on.

Smells of hops, glorious hops! but not over the top hops.

In my opinion this beer is exactly what an American IPA is supposed to taste like. Very balance with the hops showing through.

The hops stick around on the palate for awhile, just enough to tell you they are there.

For a high abv beer this is a beer that I may drink a few of tonight and not realize it till morning.

Kudos to Founders

Hazy orange marmalade color with ticky & frothy 2 finger deep off white head. Sticky lacing as if there was glue mixed in the head. Looks fantastic.

Nose rocks you with IPA aromas. Big citrus hoppiness, tropical aromas, some earthiness. Juicy. Chronic like. I canlt wait to taste this baby.

Sweet caramel maltiness, tropical fruit salad, grapefruit, pineapple, pine needles, spruce, delicious. Nicely balanced

Smooth, creamy, medium full, low carbonation.

Session brew for me. A fantastic example of an American IPA. Will satisfy hop heads as well. I would drink this often if available to me.

Pours an expected shade of yellow, with a very nice head and good retention.
Smells fruity, citrus, and pine are in the mix from the dry hopping.
Tastes almost like grapefruit, pleasant bitterness not overwhelming well balanced.
Good mouthfeel, not to overwhelming, but solid.
I will buy this again in a few months.

Founders IPA is great and is what I like in an IPA.

Nice copper color when poured with a great head.

Hops flow from this beer along with a nice citrus aroma.

The taste is wonderful and hoppy, with hints of orange. Not overly bitter from the hops but they are definitely there.

Mouth feel is smooth and great.

I would have this almost every night if I could get it in Iowa. Felt good after one since it has a nice 7.2 ABV.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass

Pours a hazy golden amber color with about a finger an a half of persistent bone white head. Some hop matter is visible. Aroma is piney, resiny, and slightly grapefruity hops with a considerable, though still secondary, caramel malt character. Taste is initially very hoppy then briefly malty before becoming intensely hoppy (pine) and solidly bitter. The finish is long and bitter and at times I'm able to detect a bit of alcohol in this brew. Mouthfeel is pretty good with medium body and carbonation. Drinkability is pretty good, I enjoyed this brew but I'm not really longing for another.

i found this one in the back of my fridge, the last of a six pack, notably not as fresh as the first five, with a somewhat muted hop character and yeast precipitate

a. this one pours a dark amber, mines a little yeasty, 4+ fingers of frothy, pillowy head

s. spiced yeast, citrusy and fruity

t. the spiciness is evident, followed by a slight bittering and refreshing finish, effervescent (highly carbonated)

m. light and a little on the thin side, but spot-on for the style

d. highly drinkable, could drink these in session format, although the alcohol might be slightly high

best for a warm summer or spring day on the porch

12 oz. bottle in a pint glass.

A - Light copper color with a really thick off white head. Really really thick head.

S - Hops, hops, hops and I think there are some hops in there.

T - Great hops. Sweet and piney. Crisp and clean with a slight bitter finish and aftertaste.

M - Medium bodied with good carbonation.

D - Good beer. One of the best IPA's I've had.

Bottle into pint glass

Pours clear brassy copper / gold with two fingers of aggrssive foamy offwhite head. Sheets of lace coat the sides of my glass.

Scent is distinctly oranges, grapefruit and citrus, and fresh bread, and floral

Taste is strongly oranges and citrus hops, grapefruit hops, floral and slightly spicy. Even sweet sugary pineapple and tropical fruits! Sweet and oily. Hint of spice. White pepper? Mild bitterness. This is not a hop bomb with respect to bitterness though it is clearly packed with aroma hops and hop flavor.

Mouth is juicy and a bit oily, creamy and viscous medium - on the heavier side thereof.

Drinkability is fantastic.

Wow this is a fantastic IPA. Fresh and juicy, vibrant and colorful, eminently quaffable. WOW!

Aroma: There was a strong floral smell, along with a sweet fruity almost orange smell.

Appearance: The appearance was coopler in color and cloudy. There was an excellent lacing that lasted throughout the glass. Along with that there was a nice white foamy head that also lasted throughout the beer.

Taste: The taste was exceptionally sweet. The hops taste sat very well in the back of the mouth.

Mouthfeel: Was smooth and slight carmel with slight carbonation.

Drinkability: I can see enjoying a couple of these, in fact I did. The 7.2 ABV is very well balance and does not over-power the beer.

A perfect IPA in my book. Everything you would expect and more. Drinkability is almost endless. I could drink this everyday. Just enough hops to get your attention but still very well balanced with the malty sweetness. I've never had a bad beer from Founders, but this is definately the best. Recently found it on tap at Miles Road Winking Lizard. WOW!

Pours a hazy amberish orange with a finger and a half of creamy yellow tinged head that leaves small amounts of misplaced lacing as it quickly drops to a paper thin covering. The nose is full of high quality ganja buds, citrus and pineapple and fresh cut pine stand out. The hoppy flavors are direct, but not forceful or overwhelming. A malty under current offsets the bold hops and offers a balanced brew that I think hop haters could even appreciate. A medium bitterness keeps this IPA cruising just the way I like, creamy and light, the finish is unique and one of a kind.

Pours with a cloudy orange glow. Good head , some lacing.

Grapefruit rinds dominate the aroma.

Pure hoppy bliss , more grapefruit, and a seemingly nice malty backbone round this out nicely.

Mouthfeel is thick , good carbonation.

A very nice American IPA.

Floral, hop bursting, carmelly goodness. The unfiltered aspect is troubling as I don't tend to prefer beer that has garbage swirling around in it. I can excuse it because this beer is just so good. The smell is loud, hoppy and floral. The mouthfeel is a bit citrusy and dirty but not bad. Drinkability is average; you can't taste the alcohol but the thickness keeps this from being a chug beer.

Got this on trade from jwinship83.

A - Pours Cloudy amber with a nice thick foamy head that stays throughout.

S - Bold, pungent hop smell up front. Interlaced hints of roasted malts, syrup, and alcohol.

T - Such a smooth and balanced IPA. Hops have a minimal bite (even for dry hops) that isn't overbearing, they give such a quality taste (maybe it's because this brew is unfiltered). An excellent subtle malt finish. It's hard to decipher all of the taste due to it's smoothness.

M - Slightyly carbonated, and not sticky. Coats the palate nicely, not to sticky.. again so smooth.

D - High drinkability, I could have a couple of these due to the relaxed hop bite, mouthfeel, and smoothness of this IPA. The 7.2% ABV is well hidden.

This brew is also unfiltered, so expect some debris in your glass. An outstanding American IPA!

This was the first beer I had by the Founder's Brewery. I was blown away by this. The reddish amber color with about a two finger head looked so good I thought I could taste it already. The smell was very floral, almost like pot. The taste was exceptional. Very well balanced, not overly hoppy. The moutfeel was great too. Not too acidic nor bubbly. I would definitley drink a bunch of these at parties, bars, or w/e else you could find good brews. One of my new favorites.

A: It poured a cloudy, ruby tinted orange body with a sticky off white head. The head was just over one finger and lingered before settling to an even cover over the liquid. There was initial dense lacing that fell down the side of the glass leaving clumps sticking to the side of the glass.

S: A bold citrus hop profile hits the nose even before the beer is poured. Beneath the hops were nice aromas of toasted malts flavored with caramel.

T: It was a complex blend of hops and malts. The hops dominate giving off flavors of tart grapefruit and sweet pineapples. The malts were sweet and creamy. It was like drinking a caramel covered pink grapefruit (if that were possible, I'd try it!). There was little bitter bite to this IPA giving it a nice sweet-tart flavor.

M: It was a medium bodied beer with a creamy feel on the tongue and modest carbonation. It finished tart and clean.

D: I enjoyed the great balance struck between the malts and hops. Given the moderate ABV and great flavors this is a nice beer to take long into the night.

Thanks for dob for this Michigan treat!

A-2 inch head on clear amber/copper body, streaming carbo bubble from bottle of Sam Adams imperial pilsner glass. Very nice looking!
S-Citrus/grapefruit and a nice pine aroma.
T-Pine and cirus hope flavor on a fairly seet malt base. As warm, more floral and caramel come through.
M-Nice mouth feel, slightly oily and full in mouth
D-I'm a fan. Could drink quite a few. Not quite a top flight IPA but one I would seek out again.

Pours Amber-golden with slight sediment suspended in the brew. The descent sized white head fades fast to a lacing. Aroma is citrus, hops, and a slight sweet pine character. Flavor is not as bitter as the aroma leads you to believe thanks to the dry hopping. Sweet malt balanced with hops makes the finish a lot cleaner than some IPAs out there. This is up there with one of my favorite IPAs. Well done

A - Clear copper with a rocky head and floaties. Excellent lacing.

S - Pine and fresh grapefruit for the most part. Bit of crisp apple and light toasted graininess.

T - Pine and apples again. Sweeter than expected, but with a big bitter finish. Very hoppy.

M - Creamy and very smooth.

D - Solid IPA. Worth getting again.
