Pours Amber-golden with slight sediment suspended in the brew. The descent sized white head fades fast to a lacing. Aroma is citrus, hops, and a slight sweet pine character. Flavor is not as bitter as the aroma leads you to believe thanks to the dry hopping. Sweet malt balanced with hops makes the finish a lot cleaner than some IPAs out there. This is up there with one of my favorite IPAs. Well done

A - Clear copper with a rocky head and floaties. Excellent lacing.

S - Pine and fresh grapefruit for the most part. Bit of crisp apple and light toasted graininess.

T - Pine and apples again. Sweeter than expected, but with a big bitter finish. Very hoppy.

M - Creamy and very smooth.

D - Solid IPA. Worth getting again.

A- Bright rust colored; clear as a bell into my 7 oz. snifter. Head is 1/8" and sticky; very oily and clingy. If a beer could 'look hoppy', this one does. The lacing runs down the glass in thick spotty zones of bubbles.

S- Very fruity hops, cherries, grapefruit, and pineapple aromas are what I sense on first sniff. I also smell licorice, deep caramel, and nuts.

T- The inital taste is not as bitter as I thought it would be. Very malty, sweet with rich caramel, toffee, and roasted almonds. The hops kick in later on and provide a nice balance. The aftertaste is quite dry considering how sweet it starts. Complex IPA in my opinion.

M- Oily in the mouth and decently high carbonation.

D- As a beer of higher ABV than a true "session beer", this one is still quite drinkable. However, after 2 or 3 of these babies, you better be close to the bed.

Deep, hazed, rusty orange color with a creamy lid of off-white fuzz.

Nice hoppy nose is full of grapefruits, pineapples, and flowers.

Flavor is an ever so slightly mirror of the nose. Caramel malty base with juicy fruits and flowers. Modestly bitter with a creamy carb to the medium-full body.

Not as great as I was expecting, yet still good. I am wondering if my bottle was a little past prime. Definitely will have again in the future.

A: Poured a clear, dark, coppery-amber with a 1 finger frothy light beige head that displayed good retention and left light streaky trails on the way down. Upon close inspection there was a slight chill haze present.

S: The nose was sweet, sugary grapefruit pulp and pine providing a nice aromatic sense.

T: fresh grapefuit with some sweet caramel and pine. A light dry floral citrusy hopping is found midway in the palate. The hopping is moderately strong and bitter, with a nice dry grassiness to is as well Very smooth with a sweet and bitter flavor and finishes with a hefty helping of dry hops.

M: light, oily and had a soft carbonation with a light dry hopping of bitter citrus and pine oils gracing the tongue.

D: Light and sweet enough to be enjoyed as a summer time ipa, yet bitter enough to appease the hopheads. Six pack worthy and a sweet and bitter ipa that is sure to please.

This one is on the darker end of the IPA spectrum. Pours a dark amber, with a rocky off white head. I must admit, I seem to like the darker, malty versions of IPA's a bit more than the lighter.

Aroma is pine hops, with a little citrus in the backround. Smells very good, and my mouth is watering in anticipation.

Good, bitter hop flavor hits you right off. Much like the aroma, it's pine, and some citrus. But there is a pleasant herbal flavor that I can't really define. There is almost a minty quality here. And the malt flavor is more than adequate, although I was expecting a bit more backbone. Just another case of judging the book by the cover I guess! Actually, as this warms up, the malt seems to become more pronounced. Maybe I was right all along. Very good IPA, and not a cookie cutter clone of anything else. No taste of alcohol either, which considering the ABV, is impressive.

Mouthfeel gets somewhat chewy as it warms, and a medium dry finish.

Overall a very good IPA, and like I said before, it kind of makes its own way and doesn't seem to play by the rules. I like it immensely.

I see a dark amber copper color with a decent off-white head and meager lacing. It brings on a mild malty sweet nut aroma with a slight herbal hops. A mouthful of this brew brings out a good midland feel and decent carbonation. The flavor captures an apple malt foundation with a light pine hops presence. Very decent IPA with some appreciable nuances and excellent drinkability. Recommended.

Bought this puppy as soon as I saw it.

I finger foam head, golden amber color with honey highlights.

Typical beautiful hop smell, malty sweetness to it as well

Was expecting a bigger taste, this was mild and very pleasant.

Resiny good aftertaste.

Could drink a case of this and not get bored...

Acquired in a trade with dschuster03. Thanks homie! Decanted from the bottle into a pint glass. Pours a golden color with a huge white head, which fizzles away into a thin layer of foam. The aroma is muted, with suggestions of piny hops and a bigger malt backbone. Taste starts with piny pops and then a big caramel, malt background. This beer is medium bodied and would be highly drinkable if I liked it more. Unfortunately, I find this beer to be slightly boring. I prefer my IPAs with more hops and less malt. Still, not bad.

Pours a three finger cream head that fades slowly, leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit hop nose. Flavor is sweet malt but this is an IPA and the hops kick in for a bitter finish. $2.25 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Wonderful orange hazy pour with little to no head and little lacing. Very nice floral hop smell. grassy hop with citrus hints. Flavorful floral hop start with little malt back bone. Kind of sweet going down with a nice mild dry finish. Very tasty. I think I could drink a few of these.

The beer is poured with a nice inch and a half head with very good retention and lacing; the copper colour and carbonation make the beer look good. Hops overpower the beer in the nose, which is to be expected, and it has a nice fruitiness behind it as well. The taste of the beer is quite surprising; it has a citrus bitterness with a nice sweet malt to it, incredibly tasty. The beer is too carbonated, but other than that the mouthfeel is fine. Incredibly drinkable, I'm surprised it's 7.2%!

Founders Centennial IPA
Founders Brewing Company

Got in a trade from drxandy. Thanks!

Centennial pours out a translucent amber color with orange highlights, some of which are almost yellow. A generous off-white head emerges with decent retention and spotty lacing.

This beer has a rather faint odor for an IPA. Citrus grapefruit hop aroma is definitely the strongest.

The taste begins with piney bitterness up front with a tongue-numbing bitterness in the finish. Hop flavor is present throughout the experience. Malt is almost nowhere to be found. The aftertaste is dry and delightfully bitter. I may have liked to taste a little more balance, but I do enjoy the flavor.

Centennial has a light to medium body with ample carbonation, very nice for this style.

Excellent bitterness and a light body make this beer very enjoyable and drinkable. 7.2% ABV is on the hefty side for an IPA, yet the alcohol flavor is very well hidden. Overall, this beer is quite solid.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appears a hazy dark orange color with a one and a half finger off-white head. Very fine particulate is visible when closely inspected.

Aroma is grapefruit, pine, caramel malt, and some spiciness.

Taste is citrusy, piney, and under the juicy hops is a caramel malt backbone. At only 46 IBUs, this is and incredibly balanced IPA.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and very smooth drinking. Perfect level of carbonation.

Now this is one drinkable IPA. Very similar in flavor to Two-Hearted Ale, but it's actually much smoother. I'm gonna have to start getting this stuff more often.

Pours a hazy orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, hops, definatly centennial hops. In the taste, piney centennial hops and a sticky sweetness in the end. A smooth, medium mouthfeel, and a piney hop aftertaste. Nice hops, although kind of light in the bitterness, a nice IPA.

Pours a 1 1/4 finger head with very good retention that sticks around for a nice while.

The smell is sort of perfumy but very grassy from the centennial hops. Some caramel malts come through underneath to balance.

Some pale and caramel malts provide a mild sweetness upfront that are quickly overpowered by a strong centennial hop bitterness. The centennial hops emit a sort of grassy/citrusy aroma with their bitterness. Grapefruit also comes through on this ipa as it does on a lot of ipas. The citrusyness and light body of the malt makes this an ideal summertime beer.

The mouthfeel has a good bit of carbonation and is fairly crisp. I love crisp bites with ipas as it has a tendency to accentuate my love for the hoppiness of the beer. I like hoppy beers to be crisp and malty beers to be creamy.

This is a nicely done IPA that I could drink all summer long. You definetely have to try this one.

Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a one-finger off-white head that fades rather quickly to a sticky ring. Not much lacing.

Smell is mostly floral and citrus hops.

Taste starts off with some bitter floral hops and a touch of caramel malt. Bitter citrus and oily pine notes lead into a dry finish with some noticeable peppery alcohol warmth.

Bitter and crisp medium-bodied mouthfeel.

A crisp and refreshing IPA. I wish this one was available in NH as I would love to make this a regular purchase. Very enjoyable.

I poured this one from a stubby 12oz brown bottle into a pint glass.

A= This ale poured a nice orangey copper color with a 1/2 inch off white head. The head was a bit rocky (with an agressive pour) and quickly dropped to a thin sheen. There was a decent amount of carbonation release.

S= Wow this ale smelled good. It immediately gave aromas of citrus and pine hops and tons of biscuity malts. Incredible balance between the two.

T= This ale was full of juicy hop flavors. The graperuit, lemon, and piney notes danced over a solid backbone of malts. I found it incredibly balanced. This beer reminded me of the flavors found in a double IPA, without the heavy syrupy feel of a DIPA.

MF= On the heavy side of medium bodied, yet the carbonation level lifted it and gave it a crispness on the tongue.

D= This was an incredible IPA. The flavors, the balance, and the carbonation were all dead on. I will absolutely be buying more of this!!!

A- Pours a deep copper color with a tan froathy head that leaves nice layered lacing down the glass.

S- Smells of citrus hops that a balacned with a sweet malts. Smells just like you'd expect.

T- Tastes of sweet bready malt towards the front that gives way to an awesome citrus hop explosion with a ton grapefruit mixed with a sugary sweetness. Also has a nice pine bitterness in the finish.

M- Mouthfeel is sticky, oily with a nice bitter finish. Feels great.

D- This is a very good and extremely drinkable IPA. Recommended.

A-Pours a clear amber with a nice frothy white head. A little bit of lacing.

S-Citrus hops blend nicely with a solid malt presence.

T-Starts off with the sweetness of the malt. The hops kick in a bit later and provide a nicely bitter finish.

M-Pleasantly bitter but otherwise rather light.

D-Very drinkable, though a bit high in ABV to be very sessionable.

A nice IPA from Founders. Not spectacular in anyway but quite solid.

Pours a very cloudy dirty dark orange. Minimal head with a few bubbles of lacing. Nose- hop perfume from the fragrant centennials and cadied caramel sweetness. Taste- caramel and cookie malth, woody hops with a some citrus. finishes with a bitter zip of the C hop. Carbonation is medium and so is the body. Has some soapy, aspirin like aftertaste. Nice IPA.

Pours a clear dark copper with a 1/2 finger of creamy brite-white head. Full retention with a thick ring around the edges and a nice thing layer across the top that leaves a huge swathe of lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma is naturally fresh Centenniel hops that impart a bit of a piney edge but also more prominant floral notes and some spice. There is also the fresh feel of citrus and a strong base of malt sweetness underneath that rounds things out.

The taste is more of the caramel sweetness taking control up front that then melds into citrus tones, hop bitterness and spice, and a light piney punch. Nice but not nearly as assertive as the aroma was. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a creamy carbonation and smooth feel on the palette. Finishes with a subtle bitter dryness that creeps along on the tongue.

Fresh, tasty, and quaffable, this is an all around solid American IPA from Founders. A bit more fresh hop feel in the taste would have gotten into another level for me but as it is, there's a lot worse choices out there.

How to appreciate a exellent american IPA? I found out tonight that having a small quantity of exellent wine made my palate more sensible to this ale. I'll try it again on other beers to see if this happens again.

Pours a proper hazy orangish dark tan yellow. Big foamy head and quite effervecent (might just be the contrast from the still wine that makes me notice the carbonation more).

Awesome aroma of Centennial Hops and caramelised malts. Citrusy, apple-pear-apricot fuity, candy-like, awesome.

Flavor is much like the aroma, soft malt sweetness just complements nicely the onslaught of hop flavor and bitterness, It's quite good!

Its a great beer, drink lots of it.
