Bottled 8/12/21

Here it is, the long awaited next variant of KBS. After absolutely falling in love with the Maple Mackinack Fudge variant, I knew I’d have to try every variant that comes out. KBS Espresso was quite good as well. I’m managing my expectations for this one though, as I’ve heard mixed things on the forum. Well, time to find out for myself

Pours almost completely jet black with 2 fingers of creamy dark tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves nice lacing

The cinnamon is quite apparent in the nose, but it melds well with everything else going on. I’m picking up on aromas of earthy cinnamon, milk chocolate, spicy bourbon, light espresso, roasted malt, and a touch of oak

It’s a bit light all around in taste, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting roasty coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, and dark malt. The swallow brings notes of spicy cinnamon, earthy bourbon, cocoa powder, dark malt, and slightly burnt coffee

A medium full body pairs with minimal carbonation, resulting in a very rich beer. Finishes mostly dry from the cinnamon

This one isn’t bad, but it definitely loses something in taste. Again, it’s not bad but a bit bland

Boozy aroma cuts through the vanilla and cinnamon goodness. The vanilla, especially, is a very nice note in the taste… but a dryness that I don’t care for overtakes it all. Drying coffee notes.
Nothing like the original IMO. Not sure if I’ll try the other varieties after this one. While this is still better than many stouts out there, with this brewer I prefer KBS or CBS if anything.

A new twist on a classic. Still solid after all these years. Cinnamon and vanilla are predominant. Coffee and bourbon follow. Not the cake batter thickness of so many of the newer stouts, still quite enjoyable.

Pitch black pour, bubbles up a half inch of caramel head. Dissipating to a tan ring leaving spotty lacing. Smell is cinnamon, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, and barrel. Taste follows suit. Spicy cinnamon up front, KBS base in the middle, soft vanilla undertone on the finish, feel is oily and smooth. Loved it, will buy more.

This just isn't working for me, so glad I got a single. The aroma is actually quite nice, cinnamon rolls with vanilla icing mostly. Hints of chocolate and very subdued bourbon barrel notes. Up front I taste primarily dry cocoa with hints of coffee. The other elements are there but subtle. Very good so far. Things fall apart at the finish though. The vanilla and cinnamon both become very potent and they just don't work together for me. They come across as artificial and biting. The aftertaste has a metallic tang to it. Tough to finish this one.

Pours an effervescent mahogany with 2 fingers of caramel colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Cocoa, vanilla, faint coffee, cinnamon shows up late

T: Vanilla, cinnamon, a little mocha up front. Mocha & cinnamon mike as this warms, just a little vanilla sneaking in as this warms. Finishes with cinnamon spice, coffee bitterness & mocha sweetness, plus a little dryness

MF: Warming, low carbonation, pretty chewy

Any more cinnamon would've probably turned me me off, everything seems in balance here. Very drinkable

Random but related factoid: Some people cannot have any cilantro in their food as their brains (via taste buds) taste it as soap and it ruins the dish. I am wondering if some people are like that with cinnamon in beer. I cannot be certain as some I rather like; but at the same time, most I cannot enjoy. This one straddles the line.
Pours a lovely viscous black and has a dense, near brown head that leaves considerable lacing.
The aroma starts and stops with cinnamon, but typical KBS goodness is swirled in somehow. Interesting.
The taste is indeed KBS, with a bit of vanilla sweet; I get no cocoa at all and the entire flavor is immersed in not so much the flavor of cinnamon, but the heat. I try to enjoy it for what it is, but think I'll stick with the original,
The feel is very nice, no qualms there. Founders does a good job on this.
OA, I have no doubt that some will love this and some will hate it. I can appreciate it, but that's about it.
