Let's face reality. I'd love to drink 9.0 IPAs all the time but life SOMETIMES dictates less boozy choices. You won't be fooled that this is anything but a thinner sessIon but Founders puts it in a can and offers it as a 15 pack. In my world there's a place for that. Its a great beach / daytime / cooler beer.

Picked up a 15-pack of cans at the Trig's Cellar 70 in Rhinelander (at a nice sale price of $14). The canning date suggests this one is a little over two months old. Poured right from the fridge into my Lakefront pint glass.

L: Pours a bright golden amber with about an inch of large-bubbled white head that dissipates very quickly to just a slight ring that leaves minimal lacing on the glass. Quite clear, with moderate visible carbonation.

S: Very nice hop profile in the nose--quite floral, with notes of pine, cut grass, citrus, and tropical fruit. Cracker malts assert themselves underneath. There's just the slightest hint of soap/air freshener to the bouquet.

T: Cracker and bready malts at the outset, with some of those floral hop notes coming through almost immediately. The grassy notes come through quite quickly, as does a bit of that tropical fruit--pineapple and a bit of mango. The malts continue to play a part through the middle, as well--pretty balanced flavor on this one. The back end brings a citrus rind bitter on top of the other flavors, and the bitter aftertaste lingers for just a little while.

F: Being a session IPA, this one is understandably lighter-bodied. It's crisp, tart, a bit creamy, and bitter in turns. While it does drink a bit watery, it has a nice level of carbonation.

O: While I'm not a huge fan of session IPAs, this one from Founders is really quite tasty. It seems to have a bit more body and depth of flavor than similar brews I've tried (including Oskar Blues' Pinner). I do enjoy how drinkable it is--really quite nice for a camping trip or a day out on the boat. I would definitely recommend this beer, especially for hot summer days.

It just hit me that I never reviewed this one, so it's past due. Can dated less than a month ago, served in a New Belgium snifter. Pours straw gold and settles clear golden in the glass. Plenty or carbonation, and topped off with a 1 finger head of bubbly, white foam. Dissolved down into a dense lacing after a minute or two. Mild aroma consisting of dank pine/resin and grapefruit. Medium-light weight and fairly crisp on the mouthfeel. Light flavor, but notable pine up front on the taste. Grapefruit and other tropical fruit middleways, and finishes clean. Hops and pine left over on the aftertaste.

Overall, a simple yet pleasant session IPA. Better from the can, IMO. This is your basic session beer, with enough flavor to get you through mowing the lawn or changing that valve cover gasket. Think of it as a sessionable Centennial.

This beer made me re-look at the bad line up from founders. Cans are cheap and delicious and I like that I get 15 for such a good craft beer.

A: Light pale straw color. With pearl white head.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus a touch of pine. I want to live in a house that smells like this.
.
T: Just like the smell, the taste has lots citrus and pine flavor hops. Overall not a lot of malt or big body to this "session" but I may be buying a keg for the tap box.

M: Nice carbonation, a little thin overall which had more body, but typical among most American IPA, pale and DIPAs.

O: Love the low alcohol, lets me drink more of these on these hot Louisiana days where temp is 95 and up. This beer is quite easy to drink, I have bought multiple "almost cases" bought out the whole food and ordered more. If you buy more than three 15 packs they give you the case discount. Awesome! Again love the low alcohol I can have a few of these and unlike a normal IPA I can actually function and drive after multiple pints. Has become my go to beer.

Still the one of, if not the, best session beers out there. Under 5% and still smells great and tastes really good.
