12 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter (bottle date: 7/30/13)

A: Deep blonde with a copper tinge. Nice lacing.

S: This smells pretty good. It is a different smelling IPA. The citrus-pine smells of this is blended quite uniquely.

T: The pine here is not good tasting and mostly, "Bleh." I can't place the exact flavor profile of the pine and malt here, but it just seems to be the bad side of pine bark.

M: Thin, not very prickly or coarse.

O: Eh, this IPA is not my bag. There is something about session IPAs that kind of takes all the fun and taste out of a good ABV. They are like the diet soda of IPAs, some people like them but not everybody. If I'm going to be drinking a beer, I want it to be full flavored.

A - Golden with lots of clarity, no head or sticky lace

S - A huge bitter and citrusy hop kick into the nose. Impressive! Lots of hops of course

T - A huge hoppy kick up front. Bitter aftertaste. Not malt backbone, which is to be expected with a Session IPA. Very tasty for what it is...

M - Lightly carbonated, mild and slick mouthfeel

O - I prefer a more well rounded "normal", or higher gravity IPA. But Founders provides a great session IPA, for the hop head at the lake in the summer time.

Canned 08/10/15

Pours yellow-gold with a white head. Smells of sweet lemon and grassy hops. Tastes like mild lemon with strong grassy hop notes. The hops are more assertive than the base flavor, which is pretty tamed. Still not lacking in the flavor department. For a 4.7% session ale it is pretty pungent and strong tasting, mostly from the bitter hops. It goes down easy and remains lively on the tongue with high carbonation. Overall a good session IPA. It has an assertive hop profile with big herbal, grassy, pine, and light lemon citrus flavors.

12oz bottle into a pint glass
Bottled on: 5/22/12

A: Pours a clear, golden yellow with 1 fingers width of off white colored head. Leaves very small patches of lacing.

S: Spicy hops, grapefruit, resinous pine, floral, sweet malts.

T: Pine and citrus zest. Pale malt backbone. Good degree of bitterness.

M/D: Medium body, carbonation on the higher side, drinkability is good.

O: Im not blown away by any means, but it's solid. And definitely flavorful for such a low ABV beer. Not something Id make a staple in my fridge but Id probably drink it again.

The appearance doesn't fit the type very well. It's extremely clear and thin looking. Straw amber in color, it looks filtered and clarified and everything else to make it look like it does. The head is a finger thick of very white bubbles, but doesn't even look much like the sticky, foamy IPAs I've had before. Very below average retention, and it's so thin there's no lacing.

Fortunately it smells like it should. Pine, grapefruit and apricot fill the nose, possibly some pineapple as well. Lots of citrus.

A good amount of malt, plenty of earthy pine, and then hops, with their citric tastes in the swallow. The hops are a bit lacking in taste, mostly for aroma.

Quite thin with a watered down feel. There's a lot of bitterness, moreso than the label's 42 IBUs would suggest, but it's never too much. A bit of an oily feel from the hops. Light bodied. No alcohol presence.

Not one of Founder's best and not really all that impressive for an IPA. Could use more body and more punch.
