A: Black color with a tan head that recedes to a thin film with a ring of foam around the edge of the glass.

S: Sweet smokey malts with a hint of coffee.

T: Lots of the smokey malts going on with a little bit of hoppiness too.

M: Pretty full bodied here. I was surprised given the ABV at how big this beer was.

D; I'll have another please!

A - Darker than many stouts, nice chocolate brown color. Would like a little more foamy head.

S - Smells lovely. Smoky, earthy, chocolate with a faint hop aroma.

T - Not quite as good as Founders Breakfast Stout, but very very tasty.

M - Clean and smooth. Wanted a little thicker/creamier texture. Might just be my expectation/perception based on the really dark color...

O - Stouts and porters seem to be dominated by Founders. Great beer for a cold rainy day, or anytime you want to enjoy a good porter.

WOW
I've been waiting to taste this one.
The pour was beautiful, a dark, almost pitch black nightfall into the glass. The head was creamy, slightly brownish but held up pretty long in the glass.

The nose was coffee all the way, not as pronounced as some others, but for a Porter it was pretty full.

The mouthful was smooth like silk, I can find NOTHING wrong with the taste. In fact, this tasted more like a stout than a porter There was coffee, but also hints of bitter sweet chocolate, with a touch of a pepper, leaving just a dab of spiciness.

The finish was smooth and lingering, leaving me knowing that I will go back to this one again

A: Pours so dark of a brown that it is essentially black, completely opaque; not a hint of light gets through. The head is dark cream and stays for a long time and leaves cream lacing on the glass. Best looking beer I ever poured so far.

S: Heavy on the chocolate even with my bad nose, some coffee and malt as well.

T: Chocolate and coffee come through strong, malty, and a little bitter from hops as well.

M: Smooth and well crafted, good carbonation level.

D: The one and only thing that I don't like about this beer is how heavy it sits in the stomach. It won't stop me from drinking it though and otherwise it is utterly amazing.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid portion comes out cola brown during the pour and dark brown to black as it rises up in the glass. Brown highlights on the sides when you hold it up to the light. Slightly darker than tan head with pretty much small bubbles, sticks around a little while but trickles away, ok lacing.

Smell is really good. Often times porters have the word "robust" on the label. Founder's doesn't but this would be a decent adjective in my opinion. Plenty of dark roasted (or even burned) malts here providing the classic dark chocolatey and black coffee aromas. Also some haylike aromas from the grains and the fairly generous amount of hops (for this style). Not a hop bomb, but if you're a hophead that likes porters too, this would be a good choice.

Pretty standard that Founders doesn't skimp in the taste department, and there is no exception on their porter. Plenty of over roasted to heavy toasted chocolate malts providing a nice balance of bitter and sweetness on this porter. Big flavors of more bitter than sweet chocolate, some dark caramel/toffee and a bit of a dark roasted black coffee. Pretty big and bold, I've had some stouts that try to pull themselves off as "imperial" that aren't as big and bold as this one. Just a good beer all around.

Mouthfeel is really good. Medium bodied, flavor will linger a little bit. Great carbonation level. It's pretty silky smooth with a nice clean slightly bitter finish. Drinkability is there bigtime, this is a fast drinking porter. The label on the bottle says "Dark, Rich, & Sexy." I can attest to the first two descriptors, this beer doesn't turn me on, but it's a pretty well done porter from the crew there in Grand Rapids.

Pours a really dark brown almost black color with a creamy mocha head that sticks around for a while. Smells of chocolate, roast, a touch of alcohol. Smells almost like a stout. Taste is creamy roasty chocolate. Has a touch of hops and alcohol burn in the finish but leaves you salivating for more of its roasty goodness. Very Creamy mouthfeel, crisp carbonation, thick body. Great brew! Could be a stout could be a porter, frankly I don't care I've just got to get me some more. One of the best porters ever.

I waited far too long to try this, but maybe it was meant to be, since I waited to have it on tap.Thank you Brooklyn bar to remain unnamed bar that provided me with a free pizza to enjoy with my beer.

A-solid brown/black body with a solid 1 finger head poured into a pint glass. Very nice retention and some lacing.

S-this is the Barry White of beers and it starts with a smell that is velvety smooth. Rich cocoa nib, dark roasted malt, and a touch of chocolate milk in the nose. I could enjoy the head of this beer all day long.

T-Aww yeah, this hits the spot. One sign of a good porter is one that is refreshing. This does the trick and then some. A repeat performance of the what the nse caught, but a great nutty kind of Costa Rican coffee punch in the middle. Some really great earthiness which leads me to believe that this might do very well aged in oak. Just take a minute and imagine that...

M-heavy in the mouth, but with a very nice undercurrent of carbonation. As it warms up it only gets better and the last few sips had the best mouthfeel, when I began taking smaller sips to make it last.

O-this is a real bulls-eye for Founders, a definite feather in their cap and a good nominee for flagship beer. I have had all the big dogs that Founders puts out, including a 2010 CBS on draft just last week.(which was mellowed out to near-perfection). This beer may be the best of them all. I am a bit giddy to see if the bottle is as good. I may start to horde them.

Had this at the Founders pouring at The Stable. Every time I have something from Founder I always end up happy and this was no exception.

Great dark color and the aroma was pure goodness. Nice malt and coffee aromas. The taste was rich, but not overly so. I could taste a combination of chocolate and coffee. What's not to like. I am glad Founders is now being offered on this side of the river.

Picked up at Finger Lakes Beverage Center. Founders in upstate NY!

Poured from 12 oz into nonic pint.

A - Absolutely black. Thin layer of foam on top, leaving lace on glass, but not much head to speak of.

S - Chocolate malt, roastiness, coffee. Floral hops buried under the malt aromas.

T - Smooth. Tastes like I know most imperial stouts minus any alcohol burn or warming. Lots of roasty dark malt, and a bit of smokiness. Coffee and chocolate type notes along for the ride.
Nice hop content throughout, but not at all overwhelming.

M - Low carbonation, but nice sized body. Not huge but not thin by any means.

O - My first founders. I hate how much I hear about some breweries like Founders, RR, 3F, because sometimes the beer doesn't live up to the hype, but this one definitely did. Can't wait to try more of their stuff.

Bottle in trade from ROBORB. Thanks man! Pours a rich dark black with a medium lived tan head. Smell is roasty malt, coffee and is quite nutty as well. Taste is very richly roasted, dark bitter chocolate, roasted coffee beans, bitter charred malt, and just really nice. A pretty substantial amount of bitterness either from the hops or the charred malt. Body is medium to full with medium carbonation. Damn tasty and easily one of the best porters I've had. How is this not a stout, and why is it not a year round beer?

Appears black with a frothy tan khaki head that laces well.

Smells of chocolate, and woodys-smelling malts with a touch of smoke. Almost smells soft and cabin-like.

Wow. So delicious tasting - Cocao podwer, earthy malts, roasted grains, and a touch of bright hops.

Noticeable carbonation gives an edge to otherwise super smooth mouthfeel.

Drinkability is dangerously good.

One of the best porters I've ever had.

General: I found this at a little craft beer spot. I'm a big fan of their breakfast stout and figured that since they had the porter I should try it. I poured this out of a standard 12 oz bottle into a chalice style glass.

Appearance: Great light tan head, the color of the beer itself is black, no two ways about it. There is lovely lacing on the glass after each sip. Very nice.

Aroma: Alcoholic aroma with a touch of coffee. It's got a nice chocolate note also that is really nice. It is a pretty straight forward porter, nice and clean flavors.

Mouthfeel: On the thicker end of the style but still acceptable. I really like it. Carbonation is moderate and is very nice. There is a touch of alcohol burn to this which is ok.

Taste: Chocolate, coffee and heavy maltiness. There is a touch of alcohol too which is fine but it's not that big because it's only 6.5% ABV.

Overall: I like this, I'm not crazy about it like I am their breakfast stout but this is a pretty good porter. I'm a fan and will drink it again, if you see it and you like porters this is a good example of the style.

A- Wow! This is a stout cunningly disguised as a porter. Super dark brown, almost black. 1 inch tan head on top. Only a pinch of light gets through this giving it dark ruby highlights around the edges.

S- Coffee up front. toasted chocolate and smokey.

T- Coffee and roasted hops. Good toasted flavor. Light caramel. Leaves a warm bitter coffee finish on your tongue. Complex flavors though.

M- This think has a very dry finish, like a red wine. Great body to it.

O- This is one of the best porters I have had. Great coffee flavor and wonderful sipper.
