Much like many other Founders stuff this packs a lot of toasted goodness and char in.

A 12 oz stubby bottle from a trade with mcallister.

A: The porter is heavily carbonated, erupting with a 3 plus finger head on initial pour and requiring 4 pours to empty the bottle into a standard pint glass. The porter's body is dark and murky, with no lighter colors emerging.

S: The nose has elements of chocolate, molasses, caramel and coffee, all mixing together to create a dry warming aroma.

T: Drinking the ale is like eating chocolate cake, rich and luxurious. The chocolate mixes with coffee flavors to create a sweet bitter body, full of dark notes. Molasses notes add a scorched-earth bitterness that leads to a nice finish.

M: The body, despite the plethora of bigger flavors, is smooth and creamy. It is surprisingly light on the palate.

D: The low abv and well-meshed flavors make this a surprisingly good drink, one that won't overwhelm the tastebuds but will leave you satisfied.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate is quite powerful and interesting. Taste is a nice mix between some black chocolate notes with medium roasted malt notes though the overall mix is balanced by just enough sweetness. Body is full and has a super nice creamy texture with good carbonation. Very well brewed and something I wouldn’t mind having on a regular basis.

Bottled on 3/24/17. So about seven months old. Dark brown black. No light gets through it. Two fingers of tan five minute head with good lace. Smell is dark roasted malt.
The taste is espresso dark chocolate and a slight burned quality. Nice bitter hop level as well.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. The finish is bitter sweet and lightly dry.
Overall good enough that I want to seek out a fresher example and edit my review if needed.

Brought back from Indy during Xmas. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. It had a notch on the bottom of the front label but no way of telling what that means. However, this one just got re-released so fresh. It was black in color with carb bubble fountain in center and slight lacing. It had a small to average dark brown head that quickly settled into a collar with a carb spot in center.

The aroma was coffee, roasted and chocolate malts. Really good. Was worried that the coffee would dominate but it blended into rather quickly after the initial hit of it upon pouring. The taste was really good as well. It was a bit on the bitter side for me so that keeps it down in my taste score a little. Here the coffee is too present for my taste. Mouthfeel had good carbonation but was a little dry.

Overall, a really good beer that I recommend. Not top tier porter for me but close. Would try again next time in an area that carries it.
