It's just as advertised. It does have a robust flavor with plenty of hops. It's quite good, deep roasted flavor, wheat, barley. What "steveh" has to say is pretty much spot on for me. But for my tastes, given its flavor profile, I'd prefer the IBU a little lower. Not a lot lower, I just found the bitterness to overwhelm all of the other great things going on here. I'd take it if it was the only dark beer around, like I wouldn't snub it, but I won't be picking it up again on a shopping trip.

Served in shaker pint glass. Poured a nearly solid black, just a bit of light shone through, with less than a quarter-inch of of tan head that had good retention and light lacing.

The aroma had a nice roast upfront, with some light grain showing through in the back.

The flavors were the same, and I was hoping for a bit bolder taste.

The body was a bit on the thin side, for what I look for in the style.

Drinkability was good, the beer went down easily and quickly. Overall, a solid version of the style. Not up to the levels of say Black Butte or Edmund Fitzgerald, but not too far behind them either. Worth trying if you see it.

This is an awesome Porter overall, but I would like to single out the look aspect. I typically don't care what a beer looks like, but this is the best I have seen, so I will comment on that. Pours creamy with a very dark opaque brown coloring with hints of mahogany when held to the light. The head is the high point. Nice brown color, 2 1/2 fingers when poured into the side of the glass that retains its height for a good amount of time. Eventually settles down to a thin edge to edge cap. Prominent lacing. I can't believe I have just talked this much about the look of a beer, but this one deserves mentioning.

I picked this little ole porter today and it was absolutely outstanding. The pour was a dark velvet or a dark stream of blackness into my glass. The head was a dark smokey one with a touch of cream. The smell was truly a special one dark burnt roasted malted wheat soaring up into my nose with a hint of hops. The taste was just about like the smell but could pick up coffee and caramel. Overall I will be getting this little bute agin.

An alluring black glance, with a tan, one finger wink.

Her perfume, imperial; primarily dark fruits, followed by roasted chocolate and caramel.
A lingering malt-cherry echo.

Taste follows the nose. Refined stuff!
Silky, seductive, yet almost shockingly easy on the 'Gulp!'

(While enjoying my final pint, I find that it goes quite well with a chaser of wee cup of French Roast coffee, off to the side!)

Was in the mood for some big malt and had just sampled Founders' Oatmeal Stout at a local, so this one called to me.

Bottled on December 18, 2017. Poured into my Imperial Pint.

L -- Very opaque, dark brown with barely discernible ruby highlights. Thick, creamy, brown head that settles slowly to a fine cap.

S -- Highly roasted malts/barley up front, light earthiness from hops or barley -- unsure, but very palatable.

T -- Same roasted malt character up front; coffee, dark chocolate, some light caramel and dark fruit notes, herbal hop bitterness in the finish and thru the aftertaste.

F -- Mouthfeel is creamy to dry with some mild astringency from the roasted malts. Body is robust.

O -- A roasted malt banquet, yet not so overpowering that it kills your palate. I tend toward more smooth and sweet Porters, but appreciate a good thick, roasty one now and again. If you like a roasted malt character balanced well with herbal hops, you'll enjoy this one. Be sure not to drink the Founders too cold, I made the mistake on one of the first and the flavor is really stunted -- let it warm to 50° F, or so for optimal enjoyment.

Poured into a tulip glass. Nov 2017 vintage.

Pour: deep, rich, dark brown with a solid 2 finger head that lasts and leaves plenty ofnlacing. Really nice.

Nose: lots of roasted malt, some chocolate sweetness, slight hops floral scent. Not overpowering but subtly pleasant.

Taste: again the roasted malt dominates with some burnt toast, slight sweetness that’s almost like a milk stout, chocolate, dark roast coffee, slight hop bitterness on the backend. Well balanced and no aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: medium carbonation despite the solid head. Slighty watery relative to the appearance but still substantial. Somewhat dry finish consistent with the lack of aftertaste.

Overall: this is a really good porter. Easy to drink, 6.6% ABV is reasonable. Although more of a winter beer, it would be enjoyable everywhere but the beach (and maybe there as well). Well balanced flavors and substantial enough mouthfeel. Definitely a go to beer. Awesome with a steak.
