Pours a ridiculously dark ruby-tinged black with a perfect two fingers of rocky reddish brown head that airily settles to a quarter inch and then a fat film. Very good retention; some splotches of lacing.

Sweet, dark, and earthy. Dark fruits, leather, roasty malt aromas, bubblegum, licorice. Lots going on. Very nice.

Rich, full, nutty. Flat, unobtrusive burnt flavors right up front with a nutty taste underneath and a decadent finish. Burnt toast, coffee, roast nuts, vanilla, rum, dirt, wood. Delicious.

Coating, velvety palate with a nice creamy character. Full-bodied with nice carbonation to off-set what is otherwise a very rich, coating beer. Lovely slow toasty finish.

Fantastic porter.
Pours beautifully and has a very aromatic, toasty, woody, phenolic nose. Tastes like a porter should with nice roasted bitterness mellowed by nutty malt notes and a velvety, creamy texture that makes it a joy to sit and slowly drink. It took a while to pick out the hops because they are kind of in the background, they seem to really mellow the rest and brighten the overall flavor of it and make it a bit more drinkable.
Would have again (damn distro...); worth searching high and low for.

Bottled on 01/09/14.

Pours opaque dark brown with 1 inch of tan head that quickly fades to a thin ring and cap on top and leaves spotty lace.

Smell is of coffee, cocoa and faint grassy hops.

Flavor are dominated by roasted (almost smoked) dark malt with coffee and bitter dark chocolate. There is a subtle hop presence on the finish.

Texture is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

This is a solid, well balanced American porter.
