Bottle: a stumpy 355mL brown bottle with a semi-stylish old-school label.

Appearance: pours an intense dark brown tending towards oily black, with a small amount of sediment evident on the final pour. An impressive tan head settles to a solid half-finger Minimal lacing.

Aroma: considering the reviews I have seen on this beer, I assume this has suffered a bit on the way to Australia. Smells only of light molasses and an unfortunate off malt. Not sure about that.

Taste: really picks up on the palate - plenty of unsweetened chocolate and roast malts, a touch of dark fruits. Very nice, particularly when the chill has left the glass.

Aftertaste: the malt profile drops away, leaving heavier dark fruits and some hop bitterness. Very nice.

Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate carbonation that brings the flavour through nicely - if you decide to let it warm enough.

Overall: a very nice American Porter - not overly flavoursome, but a fantastic mid-slow sipper once it has warmed sufficiently. Alternatively, at the right price (we get majorly ripped off in Australia) this could be a great sessional beer.

This beer poured a dark brown, almost black with sediment. It had a very small tan/cinnamon colored head that quickly disappeared. The smell was malts with dark chocolate and coffee upfront and a bit of something roasted. The taste was unsweetened chocolate and roasted coffee. It was deliciously creamy. A hint of the smoke/roast profile shined through. The finish had some dark fruits. It lingered nicely and the creamy texture was the highlight of this beer.
