12oz bottle poured into a goblet

Pours a dark brown/black with a fairly thin (1/2 finger) tan head. This looks like a beautiful porter.

Smells of roasted malts and a bit of chocolate. A hint of coffee as well.

This is a very tasty beer, strongly flavored by the roasted malts. Some of the chocolate, but a very vice bitter finish with the hops. An all around great tasting porter that is full of flavor.

Nicely carbonated - with a fairly light mouthfeel for such a full flavored porter

Overall this is one of my favorite porters I have had. When living on the west coast my go to porter was Deschutes Black Butte, living in the Midwest this was my go to porter. Noe with a move to the east coast I need to find a replacement (though I was fortunate to find this on the shelves in RI)

S = Coffee and chocolate.

T = Dark chocolate is upfront with caramel quickly following. Coffee flavor comes in near the end making for a very balanced beer. The finish was excellent with just enough chocolate and coffee bitterness to almost replicate a cafe mocha.

MF = Body was medium with carbonation being just below moderate. Rich, creamy, and smooth.

Overall, this was an incredibly easy to drink solid porter and one of the best that I've tasted.

Bottle into pint glass

Appearance- Black, no light coming through, 1 finger tanish head

Aroma- toasty malt, coffee, some chocolate, slight roast, some caramel sweetness, a bit of herbal hop punch

Flavor-some coffee, toasted malt, a little chocolate, caramel, nice bitterness but in balance, some pine in there as well

Mouthfeel- Medium, medium carbonation, a little creamy

Overall- Pretty much my go to American porter. There are probably slightly better ones out there but so far its the best one I've had. Great take on the style.

Dark, with a mocha colored head. Great lacing leaves layers between sips. Scents of mildly spicy and acrid roasty grain. Rich slightly sweet malt aroma underneath.

Flavor brings good bitterness balanced between hops and roasted grain. Rich, complex dark grain bread taste envelops the palate. Silky smooth body with a kick from the bitterness. Hints of espresso and semi-sweet chocolate.

This brew brings the malt bomb heavy and hard but keeps it well in check with ample roasted grain that stops well short of overpowering the taste buds.
