A: Poured into snifter. 1/2 finger tan head which dissipated leaving behind lacing all around the glass. Deep black. No lights getting through this stuff

S: Sweet roasted grains and some fruitiness makes it through.

T: Tastes of chocolate and toasted malt. The 45 IBU's provide a great bittering finish to compliment the sweet malt.

M: medium to heavy bodied. A really fine micro-sized carbonation and a moderate amount for style.

O: I really really enjoyed this beer. My favorite porter currently. Well balanced with plenty of bittering and sweetness. I wish I had the words to describe the awesome, unfortunately my tasting vocabulary is limited.

I just did a porter taste off of some of my favorite breweries: left hand, Great Lakes, and boulder. Founders stood out. Full flavor, full body, best taste. Biggest difference I notice outside of taste, was color. Founders is much darker than the rest. Maybe it's the closest to a stout, with the highest ABV. Might be why it's my favorite, but regardless, this is an awesome beer.

Look: Pours a dark mahogany with a creamy tan head, which can be slight or thick depending on the pour. Laces the glass as expected.

Smell: nothing is dominates the smell, chocolate, caramel, vanilla notes are present as well as slight hint of coffee. Smell is awesome.

Taste: The taste is very similar to the smell, with notes of chocolate, caramel and vanilla and coffee with none being more dominant. Very balanced and taste is as the smell - awesome. Gets even better as it warms!

Feel: Silky and medium in mouthfeel, it right where it needs to be. Just the right amount of carbonation give it a sense of lightness.

Overall: Very easy drinker with outstanding balance. This is easily one my favorite beers, the best Porter out there in my opinion.

This by far the ideal porter that one can have or rather the benchmark all other porters should be compared to. The color and head are spot on, smell is sweet chocolate/coffee which tastes almost as it smells but better!

I go to Founder's weekly and this is one that I usually will get if nothing else catches my fancy.

A-Very dark, red-brown highlights. Thin tan head, quickly dissipates.

S-Roasted Malt, coffee, caramel

T-Initially, slightly sour and fruity with a heavy does of roasted malt. Gives way to a long, rich, bitter finish - earthy and maybe even slightly smoky. I like it, but the initial sourness throws me off a little, though it lessens as it warms a bit. Also as it warms a little it becomes a bit more balanced and grows somewhat smoother.

M-Very nice. A bit thick, with a nice smooth fullness from the carbonation.

D-Very good. I could drink a few of these.

I was really impressed by this one. The nose is filled with a strong presence of chocolate and caramel, roasted malts, and hints of coffee.

The aromas present in the nose all come through in taste as well (thankfully), with nothing really feeling lost of left out. It's a little hoppier than other offerings out there, but in a good way - I think it helps counterbalance the sweet components nicely and give this porter a little bite.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, with a slightly syrupy coating being left on the palette. While a lighter nature in the finish might make the beer a bit more drinkable, it would come at the expense of losing the great mouthfeel that (amongst other things) makes this one stand out from the crowd.

All in all, one of the best porters I've ever had. Highly recommended.
