Pours a clear ruby color with thin off white head, couple dots of lace. Smell: earthy, heavily caramelized sugars, dark fruit - fig, black cherry. Taste: dirty I suppose. Earthy, toasted dark bread, caramel, fig, fruit candy. Good, not terribly interesting.

Appearance: The beer pours a brown to crimson color body with a single finger head. Very light lacing and retention do not do the beer any favors when it comes to appearance.

Smell: Sweet dark fruits and licorice are mixed with a roasted malt aroma. A slight woody smell becomes more apparent as the beer warms to let you know you are enjoying a Wee Heavy. The alcohol also becomes more noticeable as the beer warms but it is never overbearing.

Taste: Here we go! Roasted malts and crackers come to mind at first. This transitions into a woody or smokey aftertaste which is complimented with a slight citrus hop kick. The balance of this beer is amazing.

Mouth feel: It is medium bodied with a slight carbonation punch. It seems appropriate for the style.

Overall: This is a very well rounded and balanced brew, quite smooth and yet complex.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. 2013.

A- Pours a slightly hazy auburn colored body with a modest, half inch off-white head that reduces fairly quickly to leave a small amount of lacing.

S- Very malt forward- vanilla, toffee, caramel, earthy.

T- Upfront it's sweet like french vanilla ice cream, butterscotch, toffee, and caramel. The finish is roasty with hints of coffee and char. Very nice.

M- Medium body, medium-low carbonation, but very drinkable for the 8.5% ABV.

Totally worth the $12 I paid for a 6 pack. This will be my go-to scotch ale for a nice, smooth sipper on a cold winter night.

From 12 oz bottle to pint glass

A: Rich mahogany in color, opaque, with a lot suspended yeast. A gentle pour forms a small head that leaves almost no lacing...the brew appears heavy and fairly viscous.

S: Caramel and toasted honey-bread anchor the nose, surrounded by a touch of husky grain and plenty of warming booze.

T: The flavors follow the nose; sweet caramel and toffee are balanced by toasty grain drying alcohol. There's enough of a drying hop-tinge to keep malty treacle at bay. Finishes sweet, but surprisingly short and refreshing..

M: Chewy, rich, with medium carbonation keeping the palate just cleansed.

The fascination of this brew isn't in it's complexity or nuance, but how you can keep such a sweet malt-bomb contained and drinkable. There are just enough drying aspects around the edges to keep this going down smoothly.
