I don't see a date on this one but it's been hanging around my cellar for probably 2 years.

A: Nice dark mahogany pour. Big, big dense light brown head. Amazing head retention and it barely fades at all in fact. Thin but widespread lacing everywhere.

S: Kinda of a toffee, brown sugar and caramel blend. Decent bit of peat and a little smoke too maybe? Quite malty as you'd expect any scotch ale to be.

T: Toffee and peat up front. Touch of molasses, joined by brown sugar towards the finish. Caramel sweetness throughout. Kind of a dark bread crust in the finish and aftertaste. More mild peat and smoke floats around in the aftertaste as well.

M: Medium bodied and smooth. Touch dry in the aftertaste.

O: Wonderful scotch ale. Great variety of malt flavors, all well balanced and providing excellent complexity. One of the very best out there.

Wow she is a pretty beer. The head on this beast is like a little memory foam pillow I want to lay my head on instead of doing my chores! And the smell is just the bees knees... Kinda like wood that has been soaking in caramel and then lit on fire and then finally put out after all the onlookers confusion died down.
I think if she was oaked it would be like a perfect scotch ale... Everything you need is right there. Sweet, high abv., woodsy maltiness.... The only downer is that you can taste the boozyness a little too much. But hey!!! Don't be troubled! This is a b*tchin beer to have any time. Brothers graduation/ Alien invasion/ Wednesday brunch.

My affinity for Scotch Ale continues.

This beer is pretty. Pours a reddish brown. Somewhat-creamy tan head that rose quickly in my chalice.

Smells of burnt sugar (in a good way), caramel, and malt.

Maltiness. I get a bunch of floral notes too, oddly enough. Caramel.

Goes down easy. Excellent carbonation. Almost no hint of 8.5% alcohol.

This is an excellent brew, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Dark chestnut brown. Tough to judge clarity in the dim lighting. An aggressive pour only manages to raise a quarter inch of head, and even then it settles very quickly. No real lacing to note.

S: Thick caramel, blackstrap molasses, bread pudding, toasted crust, hint of brown cocoa. Figs, dates, and bruised apples. Suggestion of alcohol nudges the nostrils.

T: Rich caramel, heavily toasted crust, hints of brown cocoa, brown bread, nuts. Gentle nudge of spicy alcohol. Fruity suggestions of fig, date, and bruised apple. Lingering finish of brown bread and burnt caramel.

M: Thick body. Very creamy, chewy. Low carbonation. Smooth.

O: A very nice Scotch ale, it hits the mark. Too easy to sip away at this one.

Pint for $3 at Williams.
Served with a thin finger of head that quickly recedes to a ring that laces the glass. Murky with a dark chestnut color. Aromas of slighty sweet lightly roasted barley. Weak smokiness. Taste is similar with a slight rum toffee taste. Plenty of carbonation. A bit of alcohol in the finish but not as strong as similar strength Scotch ales. Very dry
I rated this a 4 previously. Probably due to the malt complexity and low alcohol bite. Good scotch ale for the rare occasion I'm in the mood for one.

12oz bottle

Bottled on date of 8/8/13 printed on the neck of the glass.

A- Pours a dark reddish brown color with a light tan colored head with excellent retention and lacing around the glass.

S- The aroma is sweet malt, caramel and a hint of dark fruits.

T- The taste like the aroma is heavy on the malt with a good dose of sweetness and a moderate amount of bitterness in the finish.

M- The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied and oh so smooth with a perfect amount of carbonation.

O- Overall, this is a solid scotch ale that is definitely worth a try.
