Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a tulip glass.

A: Slightly hazy, light brown color with a partial residue of loose light beige bubbles. Light scattered lacing remains on the glass.

S: Complimentary brown malt, toasted hazelnuts, and surprisingly fresh coffee are seamlessly joined in the nose. Intensity is very appropriate--resonant but not overpowering or cloying. No alcohol is detected.

T: Begins dry, with mild malt that is very well-toasted. Coffee-derived depth develops after a few beats, progressing through the middle in a focused and clean fashion. Some acidity develops during the latter half of the profile, revving up when flavors should be easing into the finish. Lingering flavors represent all of those encountered thus far, with the added influence of a green-herbaceous thread and some associated. No alcohol is detected.

M: Medium viscosity, acidic on the palate late, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This strong brown ale yields some traditional and attractive qualities, but it isn't quite able to reach the desired comfort level of what a high-gravity beer ideally should. There is nothing about it that suggests to the drinker to sip and savor.

Smells sweet and mainly of hazelnut, even the coffee notes are restrained compared to the hazelnut.

Taste is pretty similar, very sweet, lots of hazelnut, some subtle coffee.

This is a good beer, not amazing but perfectly drinkable. I don't see why everyone has been shitting on this beer so much.

750ml bottle shared by jdiddy. Pours a beautiful mahogany color with a loose head that dissipates into a soapy skim with clustered dollops. Nose expresses a huge hazelnut and coffee presence. Taste follows nose; however, there is a distinct artificial sweetener character with a slightly bitter and lingering aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body with a crisp, even carbonation. I can honestly say that 3-4 oz. was more than a sufficient pour. The artificial sweetener is just a bit too much in my opinion. If you plan on opening this, make sure you have some help.

Pours dark brown with reddish tinge SUPER thick off white light brown head. Smells overpoweringly like hazelnut coffee. Low carbonation. Taste exactly like it smells - super strong hazelnut coffee! Not a big hazelnut fan but here its great.

Pours a murky brown poor without much of a head. Jose is tons of hazelnut, sugary brown malts. Taste opens up with brown sugar mts that move on to loads of hazelnut coffee. Ends with more hazelnut flavors. Mouth is watery, yet full. Overall, this is a decent offering from Founders - bold in hazelnut, which makes it a little one dimensional, but still pretty solid.

A-murky brown with a thin cream colored head

S-light scent of dark grains, pumpernickel, and hazelnut.

T-awesome thick taste of creamy hazelnut. Absolutely reminds me of hazelnut coffee. Great tasting in and out

M-medium creamy carbonation with a creamy finish.

O-it's pretty awesome but it's a bit of a novelty. It tastes so true to flavor and with any flaws that it almost doesn't even taste like a beer. It's good though. I recommend it but I won't get it again.

A: Pours a dark brown color. At first a two finger bubbly beige head forms, but recedes in a second to a thin ring. Not much lace to speak of either.
S: Harsh and abrasive in the nose. Every time I take a whiff, I have to pull back. That fake hazelnut coffee creamer is just so ridiculously apparent, and nothing else really come through. Not very enjoyable.
T: Initially some sweet toasted and caramel malts, though that fades in a second to that fake/artificial hazelnut creamer. One of the most artificial tasting beers I have had. Solvent like alcohol in the back end of the throat as well.
M/D: A medium to full body. Surprisingly high carbonation. Almost prickly on the tongue. Solvent like alcohol and very artificial tasting. I am probably not finishing this.

What a disappointment. There is no way to get past the coffee mate/artificial creamer taste. Not something I care to have again.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter

A- pours a clear mahogany with a slight red tint around the edges, almost a soda appearance, a very small cream colored head appears and quickly dissipates to a ring, a nice ring of lace left around the glass

S- dark roasted malt, toffee, dark roasted coffee, espresso, the hazelnut really comes through on the end, very nice, really excited to taste this one

T- wow, really impressed on this one, roasted malt, very strong hazelnut coffee flavor, sweet vanilla, really tasty

M- medium-light body, not unlike an actual cup of coffee, smooth and creamy, medium carbonation

O- very easy drinking beer, extremely tasty, I'm sad I only had the opportunity to grab one bottle, also a dangerous beer considering it's 9% ABV and the alcohol is barely noticable

Served in a wellington beer glass.

Appearance: Dark brown not opaque but definitely a littly having when up to the light. It has an off white head that measures just under a finger's length. It does look simple but it will make up for it in other categories.

Smell: Hard coffee hazelnut and vanilla bean scent. barely smells like a beer but not a bad thing.

Taste: A bitter sweet coffee, it is your brown ale meets your stout.

Mouth: This is some smooth beer, does get to you with it's slight alcohol after-taste.

Overall: This is good beer but a notch too pricey for what it is. Granted it is very unique, rarely will you catch a complex mixture like this. It improves definitely towards the end of the first serving almost something you'd like to pair up with dessert and on that note, Salud!
