I visited Founders on the evening of 11/29/08 and again the following day in the afternoon on 11/30/08 with fellow BAs brewslut, Deuane and SierraGS. Both visits elicited quite a difference of opinion, but overall, you can't deny the fact that they brew some fantastic brews. As a matter of fact, their Nitro Coffee Porter was perhaps the highlight of our trip!

Friday night was chaotic to say the least. After getting shut out at Hop Cat for being at capacity (due to a live band performance), we headed up to Founders for some much-needed dinner. We were greeted with a wall of people as we entered, and we were told that it was "seat yourself," so we had to watch the tables like vultures in order to get a seat, as it was ridiculously busy. After a few minutes, we were able to grab a table. However, we had two or three different servers all night, which was a bit unorthodox. Also, we had to order our food from a window and pick it up when it was ready. Our servers brought us our drinks, though. Overall, it was quite loud and had a very college bar feel, although there was no band playing the night we were there. The food was quite good and the beer was great, but none of us really felt we enjoyed the Founders experience as much as we'd hoped. The service was even pretty solid despite being pretty disorganized.

The next day, however, was much more of a personal feel. We rolled in right when they opened their doors, and we got to chit-chat with the staff. I also actually saw that the bar was curved, which I hadn't even noticed the night before. Even better was the Trailer Park Boys tap handle for the brewpub-only "Swish Mountain Brown" offering. Classic! They even let us behind the bar to take pictures. I also had a glass of the Nitro Coffee Porter, which was incredible to say the least. We didn't have any food, but we all felt we were able to take in the brewpub and enjoy ourselves much more. I would definitely like to return again when they aren't too busy.

Some of the best food I've ever eaten with a lot of beers to choose.

I loved going to Founders for my birthday in 2016 with my Dad and step Mom. The restaurant/bar was big and the bartenders were nice.....especially when I told them it was my birthday, because one of the bartenders gave me a birthday gift with a dozen+ Founders items. I loved all of it. The store was nice. I got a KBS glass and keg handle. Their menu was focused primarily on sandwiches. All sandwiches were solid, but no other specialty pizzas or any other "fun" foods. Parking was expensive at the meters in front, but Founders would voucher your parking if you went to the lot a block and a half away.

Was in Grand Rapids for business. Stopped by Founders on a sunny fall afternoon with a couple of co-workers and sat in the patio bar. Great atmosphere, lots of activity. As it got colder they lit the heaters and fire pits. In addition to the whole lineup they had some taproom only offerings which were really good.
The sandwiches were excellent, although the "go pick it up yourself at the window" was an interesting take on food service. The servers were attentive and there was always someone checking on us. I'd go back a lot if I lived in the area.
