I was in the area and had to swing by.

Notes: Massive patio, but it is quickly taken up and expect lots of people. Quite a bit on tap, but not as much experimenting as I wished for. Hard to turn down some of Founder's great beers on tap.

For me the crowd just kinda took away from the awe of the place. Not to say locals on a weekday don't love it.

A nice big room with plenty of room to roam and great views of the brewery. Liked the separation of beer service from self-food-service. That keeps the servers focused on the reason people are there: the beer, which is fabulous. IPA: Well balanced with plenty of hops to balance a fairly big body; Red's Rye: Nice and caramelly with hoppiness to foil any over-sweetness; Porter: Roasty-licious; Espresso-Nitro Porter: Wow! A smooth coffee bomb, low-ish in alcohol. Outstanding. The sandwich list is extensive and quite good. My only gripe is that the locals are not very eager to extend themselves in conversation. Definitely a no miss...but like FFF it's easy to over-indulge so be careful.

Founders is a great place to grab a bite to eat and drink some awesome beer. They always have brewpub-only beers on tap. The food is good quality and reasonably priced. The staff is great and the outdoor patio is perfect when the weather is nice. They have a lot of live bands play there, and the last New Year's event I went to (2013) was a great time!

Went there at the end of lunch - 1:30pm. Kinda quiet which was nice. Lots os space on the inside. An open warehouse feel. Could see the brewing equipment through large glass windows. It was a beautiful day so the 'garage doors' to the patio were open.

The beer and the food I had were both great.

The people behind the bar were very attentive. It was a slow time of the day so I'm sure things are different when it's busy.

A good variety of beers on tap. I forget what all was there. Two nitro taps running and some carry out bottles. They have growlers to go too.

I had the rebuen - regular, not turkey. To drink I had the bourbon barrel aged porter on nitro. Both were delicious and the sandwich was rather large.

Overall I thought it was a cool place.

On a weekend trip to Grand Rapids how could you not make a trip to Founder's. The lady and I went on a Saturday night at around 9PM durring a week of Art Prize and the place was jumping, but we didn't have to wait at all to get in. There was a modest cover at the door since a few bands were playing that night, but as luck would have a friend of mine was drumming in one of the bands.

We first made a stop in the store to pick up a few items (Some Harvest Ale, a snifter and a bottle bottle opener) then stepped over to grab a few beers. Of the 3 times going to the bar the most I had to wait was about 2 mins (nice) and got some amazingly fresh drinks (Breakfast Stout, Mango Manifico, All Day IPA) at a very reasonable price.

The layout was great with the rolling garage doors and patio, even when the bands were playing you could hold a conversation without it being too loud. Overall great time, but we didn't end up grabbing any food, but there's always next time!

Wonderful, large taproom with a cool vibe. The sandwiches are enough to make you come back. There is always unique beers on tap. The staff was friendly and helpful. If I still lived in Grand Rapids I would go here weekly.

What a pleasant surprise. My future sister-in-law is from GR, and she's been talking up Founders for months now....so we all made the trek to scenic Grand Rapids a few weeks ago. Founders is located in an old warehouse of some sort just a little ways North of downtown (along the river).

Inside, it's a very casual atmosphere punctuated by the old hardwood floors and metal tables. They had about 10 or so beers on tap, and I tried four. First, the Breakfast Stout was as good as advertised - lots of chocolate, creamy, spicy, roasty, delicious. Next, Red's Rye was a nice change of pace - surprisingly hoppy but also with some toasted biscuit notes. Third, I tried the Scotch Ale - sufficiently malty. Last, I had a pint of their Imperial Brown - wow. Rich, malty, bordering on tasting the alcohol, a big delicious beer.

The server was sweet and attentive, but they don't serve food there beyond pretzels and cheese (they did have a menu for a local deli that delivers, however). The bottom line: Founders is a top-tier brewery that I think is starting to bust out of Bell's shadow in Western Michigan.

Went to Founder's today with some buddies of mine. Got there I would say around 4:45 p.m. and there were around 30 people altogether. We sat down at a table and were asked for our beer order. We asked for a menu to eat along with our order and:
1) Never got our menu after we said something about it again.
2) Didn't get the right beer and had to ask again for the right beer.

After we finally all got the right beers we didn't see our server again. We watched her go around to the other tables around us but not ours. Even with empty glasses we finally said forget about sitting down at the table and moved to the bar. Had to ask a couple of times for a menu up at the bar but at least we got the correct beers. After we asked once to place an order and were pretty much ignored they then told us we had to go elsewhere to order. we finshed up our beers and just left the place. Maybe this was just an off day for the employees but I won't really go out of my way to come back. The atmosphere seemed to be a good one but the service killed everything good about the experiance.

Great place to eat, have a drink, and have a get together with friends. Awesome beer selection with various price ranges. Founder's actually serves some of their beers in glasses other than pint glasses which is a nice break from the norm.

Situated inside an old factory/warehouse this place can be easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. Let's not even get started on all the detours in Grand Rapids right now that don't help the situation much, but I digress. The pub has a real cool feel to it, high multipaned windows let in plenty of light in the early autumn afternoon we stopped by. Large interior windows allow one to peer into the inner working of the brewery. Exposed ceilings and old hardwood floors, nice ambiance. The beer selection was pretty good with 8-10 beers ready to go. Everything I had was very well made, as one might expect really. Service was fast, friendly and knowledgable. It was pretty dead early in the day, but I figure that was a good thing, had plenty of time to sit, sip and smile. I didn't try the food, but it looked like they had a decent deli sandwich menu. Prices were spot on for the quality I think.

One really nice place. I was out in the area and had to stop and try some of the offerings on tap. So myself and fellow BA sopor met up at Founders, and sampled some of the wares. First off, the atmosphere is nice... high ceilings, a great view of the brewing facilities, and a huge board posting whats on tap. Nice. I was lucky enough to meet David Engbers, vice president of founders while I was there. He came right up and introduced himself and his wife, and was very cordial. Not everyday, do you get to meet the VP of a great and innovative micro brewery, and not all people in the Beer industry are so kind to BA's. In anycase, we chatted for about 10 minutes, and I got back to the beers. Many offerings, from light, seasonal brews, to heavy, warming stouts and ales. Something for everyone. The food is limited to peanuts and crackers and the such, but a wad of places deliver, so the food issue is easily addressed. Value? For what you get, the value is really quite good. Some of the best beer i've had on tap, at reasonable prices. I will be back again.

Walking in I was suprised about how big this place was. Probably could hold more than 100 people with ease. Huge tables line the place with a large wood bar.

My group all got different sandwhiches. All of which were huge and very good.

Their pricing was found to be quite reasonable, on food and brews. Menu was pretty cool, all the food items had some sort of name twist with the beers.

Had no issues with service. A great place to stop in eat and drink. Just wish it was a little closer to home.
