12 oz. bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Pours medium amber with ruby hues. Has a one finger thick off-white head that retains itself well.

S: Smells of toasted grains, caramel, and piney hops.

T: This is a pretty hoppy red ale. It forgoes the citrusy hops and opts for strong earthy and pine hops. It works well, especially when paired with a slight toasted grain and caramel malt base. Finishes pretty bitter.

M: Really easy to drink. The medium body mixed with the ample carbonation make this one go down really quick.

O: Another great beer from a fairly underappreciated Chicagoland brewery. These guys make really solid beers. Freshness is definitely a plus here. If you're looking for a great, fresh everyday drinking local beer, look no further than this one or its brother, Victory Pale Ale.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into shaker pint glass.

Pours a darker amber color with a small head that dissipates fairly quickly. Seems to have light to moderate carbonation. Specks of lacing.

Aroma is fairly straight forward and simple. Lighter caramel malt, on the sweet side. Hops are faint in the background but detectable, floral, a tad of citrus if I can put my finger on it. Nothing else really detectable.

Pleasantly surprised with the taste. A little bit of a hoppier red ale. Malt and hops complement each other fairly nicely. Get a nice burst of bitter citrus hops in the beginning. Then the malt kicks in shortly with a lightly sweet caramel malt. Towards the end, the hops kick back in, but its more of a bitter leafy taste.

Lighter carbonation and heavier body than I expected. Nice medium body.

Given this is a local craft brewery that doesn't get much love around here, it was a nice surprise. A nice hoppy surprise that helped distinguish it from others in the same style category.
