The small strip-mall storefront conceals a very pleasant and well-stocked wine & spirits shop. Good selection of domestic and imported craft beers, including a modest singles selection which changes often. Clean, well lit, and a very friendly and helpful staff. A very enjoyable shopping experience.

I have been coming here for over two years every time I am in town. I have visited with the manager Dwight at great lengths on the different beers he has in stock. As I am a Porter drinker, he is great to point out what he has or is getting in. I have bought by the case load of beers and always get the discount or more. He even knows that since I travel from afar, he keeps some beers from the cooler just so I can take it home without worrying.
All I have to do is call ahead to request a special that is going on or when there ask if he can set aside some beers until I return in six/eight weeks. Now tell me how many places would be willing to do that for you!!!
We talk wine also as I do collect wines. He is very knowledgeable on Iowa wines and am glad to see he supports this area as well.

Stop in and ask to talk to Dwight with some good conversation.

I have moved to Waterloo in 2006 and find myself relying on Waterloo's Wine and Spirits for my selection, but the more that I have their products the more dissapointed I become. I have brought bier back on many occasion. The manager doesn't seem like he knows his beer. When I told him about the bad idea of Samuel Smith's to use clear bottles, he tried to correct me and say there's only a little space showing. He seems incompetent. I was very dissapointed in finding a Chimay blue label and a Westmalle Triple to be skunky, it was also the opinion of badbeer when he tried some. It depresses me how someone who thinks he is doing good can be so bad.

If I had to describe this place, I would describe it as the little brother of the Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits in Cedar Falls. The atmosphere just seems to be lacking, not as much space and the staff doesn't seem to know much (I asked if they were getting any barley wines in, they responded that they had a wall full of wines red and white) sigh. The selection is decent and they seem to be having more specials than the other store. I usually only stop if they run out of something in Cedar Falls. Not a bad place to stop, just not the best in the area.

Man, mynie summed this place up pretty well. Don't mean to echo his comments, but here are a few of mine..

This store opened up late this spring, so it's still pretty new. The location is in a strip mall, and looks fairly shoddy from the outside, but inside, it's surprisingly nice. The store is long & pretty narrow, unlike the roomy Cedar Falls location.

The entire left wall of the store is dedicated to craft beer...which, of course, is why we're here in the first place. They've got a similar selection to the Cedar Falls HyVee W&S, and the staple craft beers are here..but the Cedar Falls store is the place to go for harder to find brews and seasonals...plus the help is more knowledgeable there. They actually do have a respectable selection though, and a handful of brews that the Cedar Falls store doesn't currently carry (Rogue Shakespeare Stout is one I can think of off the top of my head).

They actually hold random beer samplings all the time. If you stop in on any given night, there's a decent chance you'll get to try something for free. I've stopped in there a couple times recently and left with a few drinks, and even a free t-shirt..so ya can't argue with that.

They don't have a "mix-your-own 6-pack" section, and the only singles they have are bombers & a few foreign selections, whereas the Cedar Falls location has a decent singles area. Not a bad place to stop if you're a local and know the beers you can get there. But if you're from out of town, it's well worth the drive down University Ave to visit the other location.

They gutted an old Goodwill and put a liquor store in its place. Neat.

There's a whole wall of cold micros and imports. Your basic Belgians are all here along with some rotating offerings. No mix and match sixers, but there a wide selection of pints and bombers. Some rare stuff for the area, too, 3 Floyds, Dogfish Head 60 mins.

The selection is small than the other Wine and Spirits a few minutes away in Cedar Falls, but this store is great if you're in a pinch. They have beer tastings once every few weeks and on the weekends they're usually handing out free samples of some liquor or other. The staff is nice enough, though not as knowledgeable as the guys at the other store. The prices are as good as they get in this state.
