The colour is deep brown, almost black. The liquid is clear. The thin beige head disappears quickly, leaving no lacing.
The smell is extraordinarily sweet and smooth with notes of toffee, ripe bananas, caramel, and a touch of dark malt.
The taste starts with a passing clean bitterness. It is not as sweet as I had expected. Dark malts, pumpernickel, and some coffee. Growing sweetness and clean notes of ripe bananas, dark chocolate, strawberries, and mango. Quite a lot of alcohol. Medium body (light for a beer at 11.5%). Sweet toffee in the aftertaste as well as cocoa, coconut, and strawberry-vanilla candy. Milk chocolate, roasted malts, hot alcohol, and nougat ice-cream in the dry aftertaste.
The carbonation is strong, many small short-lived bubbles. The liquid is smooth but not sticky.
I like that this dessert beer was not as overly sweet as they tend to be. But I had expected some more complexity.
