Notes:
A highly hopped, moderate bodied beer which comes in at 5.4% ABV. The hops schedule includes healthy doses of Chinook, Cascade, and Amarillo, and is tuned perfectly to provide the hops bitterness explosion that IPA fans seek without a lingering bitter aftertaste.

Soap? Unfortunately, either the glass is super sudsy or the beer is just yukky. Did not care for this offering. Will try the oatmeal stout and hope for better.

This is one of the earlier IPA's brewed in WV and its still one of the best. Mountain State is one of the best brewers in WV, glad I got around to having this one, was past due.

Poured cold from 12-ounce can into a Spiegelau Adina beer goblet. Canning date unknown. Very pretty dark amber color, with a thick eggshell-colored head that left some spotty lacing. Nice aromas of citrus and pine, with notes of caramel malt and a slightly funky overtone. Taste follows, with lots of bitterness, an understated sweetness, and a mostly dry finish. Good carbonation, medium bodied, easy drinking. Despite the brewer's claims, there is some oily and resiny bitterness lingering on the palate. It's not overpowering, however, and I do not find it unpleasant in the least. (As always, YMMV.) Overall, a solid offering.

From a can, pours as cloudy copper with a three finger tall white head. Aroma is a minimal floral hops. Taste is very hops forward with a soft bitterness without being overpowering. Sweet malt and caramel flavors at the back end. Overall, a refreshing nicely carbonated beer, but nothing particularly special.

Look: cloudy, hazy, orange amber. Tall head, lacing.
Smell: Hoppy, wheat-like. It smells like hoppy but almost a wheat like miller smell.
Taste: hoppy but has a metallic aftertaste. I read it is cereal tasting but I don't know if that's what it is.
Feel: Metallic aftertaste, feels pungent bitter.
Overall: Im not far from the brewery in western MD. I like the beer and was surprised it got such a low rating. But overall it's not bad. But it's a little different kind of Ipa.

Pours a burnt orange color with an overwhelming amount of carbonation and head, smell is definately hoppy, initial taste is hoppy as well but slowly mellows out to a slightly dry finish, didn't really like at first but starting to grow on me because of the aftertaste, not a bad local brew at all.

20oz pub glass. Poured a dark amber, with nary a bubble, nary a hint of hops, or a hint of anything except it was liquid. There is no BO or BB date. Why am I rating it so low? How do I know it's not fresh, and just sucked.. if there is no canning date on it?
I have to go by what is presented to me. I'd give the store owner in WV a 4.75.. on dust removal while on the shelf, but that's not an option here on BA.

Poured from undated, 12 oz. can into IPA glass. It pours a hazy, golden-honey with a big, fluffy, ecru-colored head and thick, soapy lacing. The head has a weirdly multi-colored; parts of it are browner, and fluffier, than other parts. On the nose there's a lot of lemon and grapefruit, along with sweet malt, and floral hops. This is a lot fruitier, spicier, and bitter than I anticipated. I expected a southern-style malt bomb. I'm tasting a lot of lemon and grapefruit, along with an almost Belgian spice that's hard to identify. It finishes extremely bitter and bites hard. It's lite in feel with moderate carbonation and it's sessionable with an ABV of 5.2%. Overall, this is an intriguing "Indian" Pale Ale. I can't tell the age and wonder what it tastes like when fresh.

On tap:
Looks a little more like a hazy brown, though a pale one. Decent sustaining head, fair lacing.
Nose is fairly weak and balanced. Some malt grain and a bit of floral hop notes.
The heft and carbonation in this beer are nice - a little lighter than medium, lightly prickly.
Had this beer before, and it's always been a decently easy drinking APA. It's balanced like the nose, but with more power. Light caramel note, a bit of brown toasted multi-grain, countered by a spicy to neutral bitterness that prevents it from being too sweet at any point.

Single can, purchased at a little shop in Harpers Ferry.
Pours a little thick and caramel-colored. Decent head.
Smells of sharp pine hops. A nice enough hop profile, but a little one-note.
The flavor starts with the same sharp, American hops. Nice enough. But the back end is a little off, with loads of cereal-tasting grain weighing everything down. A bit unbalanced, but not bad.

No overwhelming hop notes, just mild citrus and pleasant, lingering bitterness. Light caramel sweetness for balance. Solid IPA option, but nothing extraordinary.

-deep amber pour from undated can. Little visible carbonation and minimal aroma (or that is just me today). The flavor is malt-forward. There is a little toastiness. The hop mix provides a somewhat unique bite that is a bit arresting, but welcome. This is different for an IPA, but I would pick it up again.

Light smell of citrus and pine. Pretty weak (watery) taste of bitter citrus. Leaves nice bitter aftertaste. Not really American IPAish. It's ok, but would be really enjoyable and refreshing on a hot day.
