Coal Black and creamy smooth, this beer holds a light tan head and is surprisingly light in body - so it won't fill you up.

Watery and has an aftertaste of lint and rust. Smooth and robust in the palate though, but the smell and taste are so off-putting it is hard to enjoy. Does indeed look "black like coal" though

12oz can with no dating or ABV printed on it poured into a mug at fridge temp. The beer pours opaque dark brown with khaki colored head and root beer highlights. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mild with roasted malt, cocoa and a touch of sweetness. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with hints of coffee and earthy medium bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good oatmeal stout.

Dark brown pour, clear, nearly black in the glass; thick, sudsy head (a bit over-carbonated). Nice charred grain scent; a little minty; low-key chocolate. Nice but watery taste; light chocolate; minty spiciness; very light grain char; little bitterness. Light body; a bit flat.
This is a stout I'd like to love, but its inherent weaknesses prevent that. It has a lot of potential, but most aspects seem rather weak and underplayed. The taste, especially, has real promise. I think a stronger, bolder body (i.e., mouthfeel) would really help this beer. Especially for being an oatmeal stout, it's baffling why there's not more 'oomph' to this beer.

Enjoyed a pint with lunch today at the Blackwater Lodge Smokehouse restaurant in Davis, WV 5-21-23 for $7.00.
Beer was served black with an okay off-white head.
Nose was a touch of mildly roasted malts.
Taste was nicely balanced with the light roasted malt base giving notes of light chocolate. Finished balanced with hopping being nicely added.
Mouthfeel was okay, not as smooth as hoped as the body was very light.
Overall a pretty decent take on the style.

Had this beer at the brewery during our Christmas road trip to Pittsburgh.
Poured into a jelly jar. Clear dark brown served with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly but leaves good curtain lacing. Earthy chocolate smell and taste. Toasted pumpernickel with a pleasant bitter finish. Nice beer!

12 ounce can poured into a tumbler style pint glass.
OK oatmeal stout. The body is a bit thin and lacks the creamy viscous feel but the roasty aroma and flavor isn’t bad.

A very nice, all around oatmeal stout. Enjoyed at Mountain State Brewing after our bike ride down from Point Marion. Nice overall coffee and molasses flavor with slight kick going down. Dave didn't care for too much. Yep! Didn't care for it! :)

Poured from a can into a pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a giant, persistent off-white head. The body is not coal black -- more of a dark brown with deep, translucent red when held up to strong light.
Smell: Very hoppy -- piney. Brown malt sweetness underneath. Not typical for a stout.
Taste: A little thin or the style. More along the lines of a milder brown porter. Brown malt, bit of oats, balanced by light hop bitterness.
Feel: Fairly light and clean, again atypical of stout (even taking into account the oats).
Overall: It's not a bad beer, just kinda boring. Would pass better as a brown porter.

From the 12 oz can in a snifter via Bluejacket74---Cheers brother!
This solid little brew pours a dark brownish black with a very nice
head of tan foam that settles to a thick ring, nice thin firm layer, and
sports some mighty fine lacing. Nose of dark cocoa, faint coffee, and
touches of char with light grain notes. Flavors follow the nose with a
mighty fine presentation of cocoa and dark coffee with char and brulee
with mellow oat and light grain notes with a faint herbal hop. Nice mouth
feel; medium full body, medium light carbonation, and a char and roast
laden finish with some nuttiness in there with warmth.
Overall, a solid little brew from a new to me brewery!
Nice
Cheers

Black in the glass, and extremely dark brown while pouring. The head is fine chestnut and lasts a minute after reaching one half inch, leaving no real lacing on a PBGC Sauvin 2 tulip glass.
The aroma is rich with chocolate syrup and quite sweet. Lightly charred malt takes the edge off. Warmth reveals a light soapiness.
Charred malt opens, followed by cocoa nibs. Bitterness is slightly higher than I think is appropriate for the style. There is some astringency that carries into the finish.
Alcohol seems about as expected. It is well-carbonated with a medium body and woolly texture.
Style scoring aside, this is an enjoyable beer. My first can the other day, left a better impression than this one. Never-the-less, I enjoyed it while unwinding from a busy day.

12 ounce can, no dating that I could find on it. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. I like the aroma, the brew smells like oats, roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and coffee. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also a bit of nuttiness and burnt/charred malt noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's smooth and easy to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think it's a solid overall brew, certainly worth a try if you come across some.
