Lovely small town new store with fresh good Maine beer. Willing to sell single cans. Friendly service. A reasonable walk from the Orono tasting bar down the street and from a great bar.

Having just moved to Maine from Virginia, I thought it necessary to find the closest place possible where I could find good craft beer. In searching, I stumbled upon Bangor Wine and Cheese Co. in downtown Bangor and was pleasantly surprised with what I found inside. Not only was this the cleanest and most organized beer store I had ever been in - but the selection exceeded my initial expectations.

I was able to find beer from a large variety of local brewers along with other great domestic and foreign craft beer. Some that stood out were lines from Evil Twin, Jolly Pumpkin, and hard-to-find Mikkeller brews. The prices were somewhat reasonable and everything was well represented on the shelves. However, half the bottles are under direct sunlight by the windows which took me by surprise.

nice place for bangor. classy vibe, mainly cheeses and wines (suprise). yet, for being in maine, being in central maine, and being in bangor; its quite the find. they have the beers seperated by nationality, thus dictating they have more than just domestic beers. they have all the sorta keystone beers for a middle range, nothing extravagant store. sierra to samuel smith to unibroe to stone. lots of nice beers from maine, especially allagash. totally worth the visit. nice variety of 22s and singles, also saw a smuttynose wheat wine, which i havent seen anywhere. hard to see smutty nose north of portland, so that was pretty cool.

Visited this place on a trip back in November to Bangor. Not much in the area, but this place was good for finding good beer. They had a fair assortment of Stone, DFH, Allagash, a few Belgiums, Germans, I spotted one Mikkeller, and a whole bunch of the Maine and surrounding state craft brews. I bought two bottles of the new Sam Adams Chocolate Bock. I hope it is worth the cost. The guy working was pretty helpful, but was more knowledgeable about wine. I really didn' t look at their wine selection, but it appeared to be nice.

The selection at Bangor Wine and Cheese is very typical of most of the beer and wine stores in the area, except that they tend to carry a few other beers that the other ones lack. So in a way, there selection is above average for the Bangor/Orono area.

They also have a good wine selection, and recently my girlfriend found a wine that we had tried in North Carolina on a road trip. She had given up on the idea that she might be able to find it in this area until we made a trip here (I wanted to pick up a few of those beers that other places didn't have). And low and behold, they had her wine which made her day.

We talked to the employee working that day and he was very nice to talk to and gave us the days they typically get shipments on if she ever wants to get that wine again, and if they don't have it, they would put in a special order for her the next time.

Years ago, there used to be a snobby little wine bar with an attached wine/beer shop on Hammond Street. When I saw this entry in BeerFly, I thought it might be the same place, perhaps under new ownership. Well, this is not the same place, it is far better and what Bangor proper had needed for awhile.

The best selction in Bangor. Period. I thought on my recent trip that the much improved Hogan Road Deli had claim to this hands down but as good as that place was, Bangor Wine and Cheese is better. Any Maine micro you can name is represented. Lots of New England micros (Smutty, Long Trail). Big Dogfish Head selection. Imports galore. Belgians (Achouffe, St. Bernardus) germans (Paulaner, Uerige, Aventinus) and British (St. Peters and others). Pretty big stock, a good selection of singles. Stock seems to move, everything seems fresh.

Owner keeps a good stock and was friendly enough. A must stop for cental Maine. Get off 95 at the Hammond Street exit and head down toward the river.

I just got back from here a few minutes and I am enjoying a nice 750 of farnum hill cider in my hotel room at the moment. This place is fantastic, similar to bierkraft but on a little bit of a smaller scale and of course in central northern maine at the near end of new england! Quality of product is top notch, with fast rotation and ordering as well as **** service from the very helpful and down-home friendly staff. Selection is FANTASTIC for Maine, especially Bangor! In fact, it would even be a good selection for anywhere in New England! Tons of rare and obscure wines, ciders, and meads, as well as many local beers in singles, sixes, bombers, and 750s. Prices are pretty reasonable as well, I picked up a 750 of farnum hill cider and a 750 of the new dfh imperial pils for under a $20 spot! THE place to beer/wine/cheese/gourmet shop in the greater Bangor metro area! Check out this lovely shop the next time you are in this amazingly pretty little town!
