500ml bottle into a Weizen Glass. Paid £2.59 for a single bottle.

Pours a cloudy, rusty orange-copper coloured body with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation visible towards the edges of the glass. A tall, thick, foamy white head quickly rises to three-fingers in height and hangs around for an age, leaving dense, speckled lacing as it slowly fades.

The subtle nose leads primarily with soft banana, lightly malted wheat, white bread and a gentle clove spice that become noticeable towards the back end. Taste roughly follows suit. Bready, malted wheat leads upfront alongside a mild and delicate banana character. Equally subtle cloves and spice enter around the mid palate with a smooth transition from the initial sweet esters. Towards the finish a hint of lemony hops combine with a touch of lingering spice to give a pleasant, quick, clean and slightly drying finish. In the mouth, an initially plentiful carbonation and a light to medium body give a slightly prickly, but smooth feel, it sheds this carbonation quickly however, and the second half of the glass is certainly less crisp.

Overall this is a decent beer. It’s well balanced, easy drinking and refreshing but the flavours are subdued to my tastes. There are a number of better (or at least more flavourful) Hefeweizen’s available to me at a similar price point, so I can’t see myself picking up another bottle any time soon.

This is an outstanding example of a quality wheat beer. Makers of wheat beers, study this one. It is great all around. I don't really have anything negative to say about it. The initial drink down to the last drop and the aftertaste are all good for me. Great job!

Hazy deep golden pour with thin, yet dense white top. Aromas of tangy fruit and yeast. Semi-sweet, malt and banana come through in the flavor. Over-carbonated, as is common for the style. This is not bad, but there are better.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a .5L Eggenberg stange.

Pours a cloudy yellow color with inches of foam that rise above the edge of the oversized glass. Takes several minutes for the foam to recede to a drinkable level. Aroma is mostly banana and wheat malt.

Flavor is nice and yeasty with banana and bubble gum being the dominant flavors. Carbonation seems low, is it possible I poured this too heavily? Nice sweet flavor with the typical hefe yeast flavors.

Overall this is super tasty and very quaffable. An excellent example of a hefe, although it loses a few points due to the low carbonation.

Hazy golden with big head from aggressive pour.
Smells of banana and citrus.
Taste is clean and wet, not too sweet. Only a little hop at the finish.
Lots of carbonation. Refreshing and drinkable. Great for warmer days but solid enough for year round.
Overall textbook perfect Hefeweizen. Nothing weird or unusual but perfectly true to style.

Classic hefe. Not too complex but l'argent drinkable. Quite balanced and the ester notes are not too heavy. Perfect with pizza on a hot summer day watching football

Served in a tall Weizen glass.

Appearance : The pour produces a full glass of head, but recedes nicely to a stable three finger cap with generous soapy residue on the sides. The body has shades of iced tea in with golden orange hues. It's 80% opaque and a very pretty looking beer.

Aroma : Fresh wheat with strong notes of banana (most prominent), then vanilla, orange, and clove. A hint of grassy hop fades out the smell. Medium strength.

Taste : A very strong wheat presence, with some water, clove, and scrapings of banana peel. A dusting of plant and hop also balances out the flavor. Lots of spice and pepper provide sharpness the overall profile.

Feel : Light to medium bodied with moderate creaminess and moderate to high carbonation. It ends semi dry leaving starches of wheat on the sides of the mouth.

Overall : This is better than the Hefeweizens I've had in recent memory, but still not as good as Weihenstephaner, Franziskaner, or Ayinger. I'll pass next time in favor of another beer I haven't reviewed or a solid Hefe from the other guys.

Reviewed 4/16/12

L: A hazy dark straw-like color. Surprisingly decent clarity for the style. Pretty good head retention.

A: Rather spicy, with hints of banana and pepper. Kinda bubblegummy and sweet smelling. Definitely a weissbier.

T: Right off the starting line it’s pretty wheaty and a bit malty. Semi-dry finish; very drinkable. Just enough hop bitterness to keep this beer in check. A bit peppery, following aroma.

F: Light body with heavy carbonation. Really quaffable.

Overall Impression: A classic, super-drinkable hefe. It’s subtle, got a nice aroma, and drinks great in the warm weather.

A very heavy hefe-weizen with a strong sweet bread, banana, and clove taste with the clove staying in the after taste. The after taste gets too sour and astringent and turns your stomach a bit

Not competitive for a German Hefe.

500 ml bottle. Light amber orange in color with a tall fluffy white head. Cloudy from the addition of the yeast (mit hefe). Strong banana and clove aroma. Soft, lightly sweet, fruity flavor that finishes a bit dry. Medium bodied.

A classic hefeweizen with all the proper fruit and spice and very little flaws.

Enjoyed on tap. Pours a hazy gold with a nice creamy and lasting white head.
Aroma is banana and clove with a hint of breadiness and floral hops.
Taste is banana and clove, although a bit more subdued than some German Hefes. A nice and crisp and slightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is very nice. Good body, almost creamy but with a refreshing amount of carbonation.
Perhaps not on the top of German Hefeweizens but still very, very good. A crisp, flavorful and refreshing brew.

Pours a nice creamy white head. The beer it self has a really nice hazy golden color. Banana, citrus, clove smell and taste. Low carbonation. It is a really smooth hefe. Can't go wrong with one of these.

This is a nice beer. It lacks the offensive fruity sweetness that plagues many lesser Hefeweizen. It has a brilliant texture, a great taste (though nothing particularly fantastic) and makes for a satisfying and very drinkable beverage. I prefer it to Schöfferhofer and Gutmann, though both of those are fairly enjoyable. The only German Hefeweizen I consistently enjoy every time I purchase it. Recommended.

Bottle poured into Teku - 2.5 months prior to "best by" date
Great head, pretty to look at. Banana, clove, citrus on the nose with an unexpected mustiness. Low hops, low bitterness, nice banana spice. Great hefe at a great price.

Poured into a Weizen glass. Huge white puffy head that slowly receded. Aromas of banana, clove, wheat and yeast. Initial taste was banana with yeast, cracker and clove with a slight lemon zing at the end. Highly carbed with a lightness on the palate. Great summer beer.

Had from a 500mL brown glass bottle purchased in Portland , OR with a best by date of 05/16.

Pours a deeply hazy orange body with a rich and inviting off-white head. A very fine perlage. It dissipates relatively quickly, but leaves a nice creamy lacing.

Effusive aromas of banana, clove, banana pudding, banana flan, citrus zest and lemon oil. It definitely has the aromas of a dessert, but not overtly sweet and even bordering on the ethereal.

Spritely and lithe on the palate with very ample carbonation as well as a nice refreshing citrusy acidic vein running throughout the beer. Finish of banana, clove, watery orange juice, and pastry. It's a bit thin and watery in the mid-palate. Smells a little like dessert, but tastes like refreshment.

In a hyper-globalized world, it's nice to see this brew continue its reign of excellence. Never disappoints.

Bottle. Golden pour, foamy white head. Aroma of banana yeast and wheat, the usual. Taste is yeasty and fruity, with banana, grain, yeast and wheat. Very good.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass

A- A hazy amber with an giant head indicative of a Hefes, no granules to pour in. Good retention on the head. Very sexy looking beer.

S- A little sweet and spicy banana-clove going up front, malt towards the end. Not much hops to my nose.

F- the taste follows the smell with some sweet banana and spices along with bready malt. Really quite refreshing, a perfect beer for the summer.

MF- Fairly crisp from carbonation I'm assuming, as there isn't much bitterness to it. On the lighter side for weight.

O- A fantastic hefe that I will buy again and again.

Appearance: Hazy/cloud amber under a 1” fluffy, creamy off-white head that persists with very fine bubbles that leave ledges of lace. Flavor: Sweet malt, banana, clove not much hop. Mouthfeel: very creamy, medium full body, smooth, medium high carbonation with very fine bubbles, very soft carbonation giving it a luscious texture. Overall: very drinkable beer that makes you want a plate of white sausages and potato pancakes.

Slightly chilled in my weizen glass.

Cloudy golden orange, complented by a rocky, four-centimeter mound of tight-knit, soft-as-silk, pure white foam that REFUSES to die down for a long while. Beauty.

Banana and clove greet my nose, along with floral lemon and some freshly-baked, yeasty soft pretzel. Smells scrumptious.

Lightly tart lemon is in the flavor, along with some subtle, herbal noble hops, and the finish is a crisp one of clean, biscuity white bread.

It's quite full-bodied. Ample carbonation, as expected.

This is a fine hefeweizen that holds its own with other German examples of the style.

The beer pours a cloudy amber-orange. Pour with the glass tilted somewhat vigorously and then stop Let the glass sit as the creamy head rises to 2+ fingers. Then slowly pour the rest of the beer into the glass. The head will rise up like a thick creamy milkshake. Sooo beautiful! The nose has a hint of grass at first followed by banana and bubblegum. The flavor is wonderful as it washes over your tongue with hints of banana, yeast and citrus on the tail end. I am not a big wheat fan but this is my favorite Hefe and in my top 5 beers. This beer is crisp and refreshing, especially in the summer and has a wonderful feel from the yeast. I probably drink more of this beer than others. Way to go Paulaner!

Normal nose but picked up slight bubblegum, bread, with banana. The nose had me impatiently awaiting my first sip. The taste followed the nose but was very slight. The beer was crisp and very refreshing. The taste was sublte but very tasty. I was very impressed with this beer and will buy more for the hot summer months.

This beer pours a slightly hazy yellow gold. The nose is bursting with banana, brown bread, toast, and general roasty notes. The flavor is complex, bready but light, with a pleasant acidity, tangy, and very satisfying. I have always said wheat beers are not my thing, but this and Sierra Nevada Kellerweis have convinced me otherwise. When done well, a wheat beer can be awesome. Nothing like a classic to convert you to a flavor.

This beer is as classic as wheat beer gets. Paulaner is one of the biggest and oldest breweries in Bavaria, Munich specifically, and is very highly regarded (for good reason)!
Careful with the pour, as the head comes on rather strong!
Very dark golden color, almost amber, with a very prominent head.
Smell: VERY sweet. You can instantly smell sweet banana, a lot of citrus, even a hint of clove.
Taste: A smooth, clean, and very fresh tasting beer. My favorite Hefeweizen by far. It is so easy to find and at 5.50% ABV, it could easily be a great summer session beer, especially while watching a Bayern Munchen game! (Maybe I'm a little biased towards Germany).
As the wise beer connoisseur Joseph H. Somers once said, "Paulaner is killin' the Hefeweizen game!"
A great beer that I would highly recommend, especially if you are just being introduced to Hefeweizen. Unless you are Peter Rutkowski, in which case it isn't good enough.

I wonder if I have the temperature right. Looks and smells delicious, but the flavor is a little flat, and that's only enhanced by the distinctly fine feel of the carbonation in the mouth. Still, a beer I'd definitely revisit again.
