This is one interesting / weird / different beer.
It pours with a light black or dark(ish) brown color which is quite hazy. The dirty brown head is very generous and lasting. The aroma is sweet, but there's no usual coffee, caramel or chocolate, but rather some fruits, hard to say esactly what.
The tase is also sweet and malty with some fruity taste as well.
Not bad, but I'm not yet sure if I like it. Takes more than one to be sure about it.

500 mL can from the LCBO; dated Dec 4 2023 and served slightly chilled. Labelled "Weissbier Dunkel".

Pours hazy brown with orange-amber highlights; situated atop is nearly three fingers of fluffy, foamy, off white-coloured head that lasts for the better part of ten minutes. By that point, a rocky quarter-inch cap and collar are still holding steady, with several thick strands of lace sticking to the glass. Rich medley of wheat and yeast-derived aromas; I'm getting pumpernickel, caramelized sugars, ripe banana and clove.

Delicious and well-rounded flavour profile - plenty of wheat, whole grain bread, ripe banana, with a touch of walnut. Banana, wheat and bready malts last through to the finish, joined by clove, raisin and subtle orchard fruitiness; yeasty conclusion with a spicy, roasted-wheat aftertaste. Medium-light bodied, with potent carbonation that remains crisp and fizzy throughout the session; smooth, pillowy mouthfeel that feels luxurious on the palate, soothing even. I could easily drink another can of this, and am currently kicking myself for buying only a single.

Final Grade: 4.15, an A-. Having not had all that many dunkelweizens, I am not in a great position to state that Paulaner's is unequivocally one of the best of its kind. That being said, I really enjoyed this beer, and am inclined to rank it highly, i.e. top three, at least of those I've tried so far. If you enjoy German weissbiers - or maybe you're just curious about them - I highly encourage you to try Paulaner Weissbier Dunkel as soon as possible. Wish I could find this locally, but I guess ordering online is also an option, for as long as it remains in the LCBO system.

500ml can from the LCBO. No canning or expiry date, but recently arrived here in Ontario, so I assume it's relatively fresh.

L: Slightly cloudy, amber-brown hue with three fingers of cream coloured foam. Several strands of lacing on the weizen glass.

S: Caramel-drizzled banana, dark rye bread, toasted wheat. Some roasted chestnut, chocolate wafer, and yeasty effervescence. Hint of clove.

T: Largely follows the nose.

F: Silky smooth mouthfeel, medium-full bodied. A bit spicy through middle, with a malty, drying finish.

O: A solid and enjoyable dunkelweizen, with more of a "roasty" character (especially on the nose) than other examples of the style. Unique and well executed.

500 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.30 CDN. Canning date seems to be June 7, 2023.

Appearance - hazy chocolatey brown colored brew with an enormous four-finger fluffy off-white head. Great staying power and huge swaths of lacing remain behind.

Smell - Wheat, banana, hints of caramel and roasted malts, a little clove and a nice underlying bready sweetness.

Taste - Plenty of sweetness with bananas up front, lots of bread in play too, a touch of roasted malt around the 2/3 mark and light clove suggestions. Minimal bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, good carbonation and semi-creamy texture. Easy to drink. Feel is way better in a glass than with a can, particularly for this brew.

Overall - As expected, Paulaner puts out a very good Dunkelweizen with good flavor, great nose and a majestic way about it in a glass. Well worth a purchase and for those locals, stock up while you can since once gone, it may be years before it comes back.

Poured 500ml bottle into a pint glass. A big three finger, fine white head on a cloudy amber brown. Great head retention and abundant fine lacing.
Malts in the nose.
Malt forward taste. Bread, nutty, sweet. a faint touch of smoke.
Fairly light body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, creamy.
An excellent Dunkelweizen. Well worth a try.

One of the most beautiful-looking beers I've seen. Aroma and flavor are great, but could be bolder. Feel is perfect: creamy with enough carbonation.
