An amber beer style that was developed to celebrate the original Oktoberfest over 200 years ago. This full bodied beer with its rich malt flavor, dark toffee note and underlying fruitiness has a masterful hop balance.

The secrets behind Paulaner's excellent taste and unwavering quality are locally sourced ingredients and a tradition of craftsmanship that has been passed down and perfected by our dedicated brewmasters since 1634. Here in Munich, Paulaner beer is not a mere product -- It's a matter of the heart.

While there's no such thing as 'perfect beer' this one is close. Pours a burnt orange with nice lacing. Not much of a head though. It has a nice wheat and barely flavor. No hops. (And Im a IPA drinker) This is a TRUE BEER. This is how beer was supposed to made. Do your taste buds a favor and go buy some.

Poured in a child stemless wine glass. Not muddy, but not clear. Holds some head. Upon having one a couple of nights later next to an American IPA, this does have a nice mouth feel and good rich taste. The taste does fade fast for little mouth feel. Good beer flavors. Kind of dogged this on the first go round, this review is an upgrade.

330ml bottle pours a rich orange-brown color with a thick head of off-white colored foam that fades down to an uneven ring at the edge of the glass. Smells of hearty toasted bread, caramel, and a bit of spicy hops. Rich and layered flavor of hearty toasted breads, strong caramel, a hint of honey, and a delicate spicy-herbal hop flavor with a mild bitterness. Subtle sweetness, medium body, herbal-caramel aftertaste, and only a slightly bubbly carbonation mouthfeel.

This has always been one of my most favorite Märzens, and one of the first I tried, too. Surprised I hadn't rated it until just now! Have bought a few times and will continue to do so.

Malty start followed by a biscuit taste, and slightly bitter hops aftertaste - very nice. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Excellent beer which leaves me wanting to eat pretzels.

This beer excels at what it does. Mild and drinkable yet with a bit more body than your average ale. An almost umami aftertaste that just encourages you to take another sip.

L - dark amber with a light tan head that dissipates quickly leaving behind a thin cap and minimal lacing
S - bready malt and yeast with caramel and slight hops
T - Follows the nose: bready yeast and malt up front and throughout intermixed well with notes of caramel and toffee with slight grassy hops. Finishes with slight mineral and earth notes.
F - medium bodied with moderate carbonation
O - a very good marzen and a classic

Glass bottle 11.2 oz.
Look: Really nice dark copper. Great medium foam
Smell: Great scent of malt
Taste: What an experience. Really great intro. Smooth start with a an opening flavor of sweet malt/bread. Then ends with a zesty lemon-grass that makes you want more.
This is one of those beers that leaves you upset when its the last bottle.

Don't drink lagers much, but this Oktoberfest has much more of the refreshing character that I associate with them. A lot of sweetness too, though, which ain't great for feel. Probably not what I'd binge on at a festival, but my favorite Okt. beer compared to what's available here. Blows spaten off the ends of the earth.

Picked up a six pack of bottles. Best by date: 04/2024.

Pours a deep copper in color with hints of amber and a finger thick, foamy and slightly off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin layer of lacing on top. Carbonation looks a tick below average, which is normal for the style. A bit of lacing as you drink, most of it eventually slides down to meet the beer. The look is on point for the style.

Aroma is actually more hop-forward than I would expect, mostly grassy and lemony, but there is of course a lovely roasted maltiness to balance it out. It has both a bitterness and a subtle sweetness to it. This one isn't overly aromatic on the pour, getting some herbal tea notes as well. Perhaps it will open up more as it warms. Okay, I've let it warm, getting a lot more caramelized malts now, maybe even a hint of bubblegum. There's still that lovely hop balance.

Taste begins with a lovely buttery, roasty, bready maltiness. There is a subtle sweetness towards the middle, and then the hops kick in with lemon and grass. The finish is very clean with a hint of bitterness. I love the hop balance here, it cuts right through the sweetness, which is usually a downside for me with most marzens.

This is medium bodied with light, zesty carbonation that prickles on the tongue but mostly stays out of the way. Doesn't feel thin or syrupy, just right. The hop balance makes this one finish pretty clean and dry. Quite drinkable.

This is one of the best Marzen style brews I've had, it's right up there with Ayinger, but they are very different. This one feels like it veers a bit more towards a Pilsner with less yeasty/earthy notes. The roasted malts here are again definitely the showcase, but this one feels a bit more balanced than the Ayinger. They are both very good in their own right, and probably the top two of the style right now for me. Really enjoyed this one and happy I picked it up as a six pack. Prost!
