This unfiltered bottom fermented double bock beer has been brewed for over 375 years--always adhering to the original recipe. The taste is unmistakable, with its smooth chocolate flavor, robust dark caramel maltiness and a light note of hops--providing a nice intensity on the palate.

This beer is high gravity in disguise! Pours a transparent amber with a lively light tan head. Smells sweet and malty. Taste is dominated by malts, with only the slightest touch of hops. Very smooth for such a strong beer. This could be a good session beer if you desired a shorter session!

Once again, Paulaner delivers! Salvator double-bock.....pours darker as most will. The taste is different as there is hints of chocolate to this beer. As only Paulaner can do, another GREAT BEER.

Smells like the rich earthiness of fermenting silage. Drinks like the most balanced doppelbock I've encountered.

Bottle dated "enjoy before 06/24" into pint glass. Pours a hazy dark copper color with a miniscule off-white head. Initial impression is bready malts; quite sweet but not cloying. Mouthfeel is clean and has a bit of heft to it. Finish fades to malt sweetness. Overall, quite enjoyable.

51 cL bottle, fridge cool, poured into a snifter, in Toulouse, France.

My son hand delivered this from a trip he took to Germany. It was bottled *2 weeks ago*, but has been brewed in Bavaria for *390 years*. 4 ingredients.,.

Good caramel head sponge above a chestnut body. No lace, but a perceptable oil remains in the glass.
Nose is solid; malty, bready, with high caramel notes, some dark fruits present.
Taste leads with the malt and caramel, dark fruit sweetness, then the hop hits. Dry finish and a smiling alcohol hit. Beautiful.
Mouth is medium-full, it’s low carbonation, which suits the beer exactly.
Overall, style point for freshness and mode of delivery. A superbly nice drinking double bock.
I’ll have another!

Always one of my favorites this dark golden brown beer has a beautifully thin tan head and a robust cloudiness that anticipates the flavors to follow. Deep and malty on the nose with dark chocolate leading aromas of caramel, toffee, cocoa powder and maybe a hint of light roast coffee following. On the palette we are treated again to the dark chocolate and an unmistakable bread backbone. Crispy caramelized bacon along with molasses round out the malty flavors and the low carbonation makes this strong doppelbock easy to drink. The feel of this beer is very full and warms you like being wrapped in a fleece blanket laying on the couch during Sunday Night Football in mid December. A true classic this robust beer shows why it has been enjoyed for nearly 400 years.

11/3/23 On tap at Bow and Stern on the Allure of the Seas before cruising or of dock.

Interesting cloudy copper color. Malty, roasty, cocoa. Caramel licorice. Dry on the mouth feel. Hop bitterness is nice. Glad to have tried this one!

i have wanted to try this beer for ages, last year while visiting a friend in hamburg i even bought a bottle, only to leave it in their fridge and forget it, but now i finally get to try it, bought in the edeka in hamburg hbf, this is a good not great doppelbock, rich, chewy malty flavour, black bread, burned toast, liquorice, tobacco, chocolate, caramel sweetness, hint of a fruity flavour, light bitterness on the finish, medium to full bodied, low carbonation, was hoping for a little better after all this time, but nice to finally get to try it

Pours a brownish copper with a finger of head. The nose has bready notes and also the essence of molasses. The flavor is malty but it is not nearly as strong as I would expect for the style. The same could be said for the body - awful thin for a doppelbock. The finish is also unexpectedly hoppy.

Bottle dated best by 2/24. Not bad, but not great. Not enough head and it doesn’t last long. No lacing. darkish amber liquid with excessive suspended solids in a slight haze. (At least they warn that it is unfiltered). I wish it was darker. Caramel malt on nose and taste. Was hoping for more overt expression of dark dried fruit .the only chocolate I pick up is maybe faint milk chocolate; most likely from power of suggestion after reading the brewer notes.Mouthfeel a bit thinner than preferred.
