11.2 fl. oz. bottle
Served in a pokal glass

This beer pours pale yellow in color and is topped with three inches of creamy, white head that leaves a little lacing.

The main aroma is toasted grain.

The taste is pretty much the same with a clean finish.

Moderate to thin mouthfeel

'Tis the Octoberfest season. It is an easy drinker and lacks much flavor.

Pleasant golden lager, but appearance is slightly spoiled by a modest head with only ok retention.

Aroma is classic Helles: light and biscuity, not much going on, save a kiss of floral, slightly vegetal hops on the back end.

Flavor follows: it's a straightforward, inoffensive brew good for the summer months and to innocuously accompany meals. Nice clean malt presentation without graininess; surprising amount of bitterness. Not at all over sweet.

Easy drinking feel; you can easily pound these back, if that's your leaning. Doesn't lend itself well to sipping.

On-tap @ The Landing in Hillsborough, NJ.

Enjoyed this one during their Oktoberfest celebration. Pale gold color and clear with a creamy white head. Bready, grainy malt aroma. Just the right amount of herbal hops for balance. Slightly sweet in the finish with a touch of bitterness. Medium-light body and so incredibly soft and clean. Too easy to drink. I could have several of these in a row with ease. A textbook Helles.

Had this at the Paulaner Restaurant in Zhengzhou.
This is a tasty lager, very malty. Lots of wheat and bread flavors. Not a noticeable hop bitterness. Light and easy drinker, good choice for a hearty dinner. I think this pairs better with a broader range of food than the Hefe, although the Hefe is more refreshing.

DATE: August 5, 2016... OCCASION: The Olympic opening ceremonies begin, while I wait for Jerry and Matt to arrive... GLASSWARE: Ommegang pokal... crystal clear, imperial golden body that has a fleeting, off-white head that takes the form of uneven suds...solitary bubbles... a perfumed lightly, aromatically hopped--lilac and with crisp cracker malts making for an invitation... smooth, light, slightly syrupy, but highly drinkable and uninhibited... a light-bodied lager that dissipates without much of a draw or drag... the taste profile is soft and apologetic, with less of a "hearty" impact than expected... a bit beefy, with the vegetable and butter flavors of an honest lager... as Paulaners go, no match for the hefe, but a pleasantly light lager that has hints of toasted bread, flowers and dry champagne...

Pale gold. Slight head doesn't persist.

Light aroma. Vague graininess with slightly sweet impression. Not much from the hops, perhaps slightly herbal. Overall very modest and clean.

A very pleasant, rounded, and subtle drinking experience. This is the encyclopedic example of a grainy-sweet flavored brew. Soft and delicate malt with a nice earthy hop supplement. Bitterness not really relevant, the finish is a tad sweet and bready. Clean, oh so very clean.

Medium body with not too much in the way of carbonation, Despite this, there is a slight zip to the finish. After the sip, there are no lingering difficulties, sensations, or worries to speak of.

A mellow brew.

Poured into a Creature Comforts nonic pint. Label says Best Before End of: 04.17

A- Pours a medium golden color with a 1/2 inch white head that retains decently before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a swirl of sheer surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Grainy, crackery malt with some alcohol weak corn smell.

T- Reminds me of an AAL with maybe a bit of actual malt character. Other than that, seems like they might use corn for the rest of the malt bill. Minimal hop bitterness and a touch of sweetness.

M- Crisp but watery with medium carbonation and a light body.

O- I'm sure this is brewed to style, but it's just not doing anything for me. Granted I'm not a lager guy, but I've had plenty that I've liked and this just isn't one of them.

From a 500ml bottle.
L: Dark gold colour with light carbonation and a half-inch, foamy head that reduces quickly to a smear.
S: Clean, grassy, pilsner malt. Noticeably malty.
T: Grassy, herby, hint of lemon.
F: Medium body. Medium to low carbonation. A little stickiness. Lightly drying. Smooth.
O: Great summer beer. The real deal. Serve this at your bbq instead of Peroni or Stella and your mates will thank you. Thanks to its low-ish carbonation I suspect it would also make a good accompaniment to a curry in place of the ubiquitous Cobra or Kingfisher.

Comes out rather American fizzy yellow in appearance, didn't break out the good head, retention was almost nil. Aroma hit with the traditional banana and clove, but not over the top, like again, the Americanized version.

Lots of carbonation brings a lemon and wheat feel. This is light all around except for the carbonation and yeast feels. No off flavors, but for a single bottle format beer, you pay a lot and don't get anything unique or worth the higher price per oz cost.

L: Golden colored beer, clear with tons of bubbles. Thin head that hangs around
S: Pretty faint. Definately floral hop aromas present, malts are thin though. Have a slight sweet honey note to them.
T: Once again, kind of thin, hops are present and give a peppery bite, some floral and vegetal characters. Malts have a little more presence in the taste, but are still somewhat outshined by the hops. Present the standard honey cracker character of the style.
F: Light refreshing body, however hop bite is unexpected and lends a little more dryness to the beer than I prefer for the style.
O: Somewhat medicore for the style, which is one of my favorites.

Clean, crisp and light with a crackery, slightly sweet malt and a hint of fruity yeast. Refreshing and easy to drink. The original session beer! Crisp and creamy carbonation. This is a well executed and uncomplicated lager. I have found variability in freshness - if it hasn't been sitting on the shelf for ages this one hits the spot.

0.5l bottle. Bought in store.

Look: Poured hard and didn't get large head. Head dissipates fast and leaves allmonst no lacing. Clear beer with light dim.

Smell: Got allmost no smell. Little that can be smelled is like any ordinary lager.

Taste & feel : Easy to drink. Maybe over-carbonated. Leaves nice "fruity" aftertaste.

Overall: Really refreshing and great for everyday beer!

L: Pours a nearly perfectly clear pale yellow with a small white head that dies fast. This is the clearest beer I've ever seen.

S: Faint hop aroma, almost no smell from the beer other than a bit of pale malt? You know what light beer malt smells like.

T: This beer is super refreshing. It's very light on the palate, with minimal malt bite. A little diacetyl, combined with light german hop aroma. Small amounts of sweetness - it's fairly dry.

F: Very thin, bubbly medium carbonation. You could most certainly chug this.

Not as good as Hacker-Schorr Munich Gold which has more body, mouth feel, and flavor, but still a classic. I cannot discern as much in Euro Lagers as in every other style. It's like arguing Bud vs Miller.

Helles lager is the Sauvigon Blanc of beers.

A - Light golden color, clear, with a 1 inched dense white head that quickly dissipates but laces and rings nicely.

S - GIves off a tame toasty aroma - not enough, faint hops, and grass.

T - Very clean taste, with a only bit of hoppiness that lingers for a cleansing finale.

F - Clean but low carbonation. Slightly prickly and fresh. Good food beer but too bland for me.

O - As good and clean a mainstream lager as you will find. Try 1.

Bottle. Pours a clear, deep yellowy gold. Head is fluffed and sudsy. It dies off rather quickly and isn't too lacy. Aroma is fairly sweet with cooked grain and some countering grassy hops. Not heavy on the yeast notes. Flavor is easy and mostly pleasant. Hoppiness is soft and grassy. Thankfully, the sweetness isn't as potent as some of the style. Yeastiness is well balanced. I predominantly get a sweet cracker and cooked grain flavor. Light bodied. Pretty drinkable. An easy going six pack that I astonishingly have not had before.

Pours a very pale yellow with one finger white head. Little lacing. Initial grassy aroma followed by honey and baked bread. Light sweet malt flavor that is steady through the light hop bitterness on the end. Light body and medium light carbonation. This is a well balanced and good beer if you are having a few and also eating.

Pours pale very clear with a very nice white foam head, medium retention. Smell is skunky when you open de the bottle but it disipates quickly, then you get malts and very sutil noble hops. Taste is crisp, refreshing, grains and dry finish with low bitterness. Overall very nice munich helles.

18 oz pint on draft at the Bier Markt - Square One. Served on tap into a cool Paulaner pint glass / mug.

Appearance - Rich dark golden color, a decent finger of fluffy white head and good retention. Impressive clarity and lots of visible bubbles.

Smell - Grainy with some very bready notes and some nice sweetness, making this definitely a Munich Helles, but certain similarities to a Marzen are in place.

Taste -Rich flavors with a steady hop bitterness up front, followed up by a sweet malt backbone that is unyielding. Lots of grain throughout make this one of the best Helles Lagers on the market.

Mouthfeel - Smooth and crisp, modest carbonation and average dryness on the finish.

Overall - A top notch Munich helles, i only wish this was available in bottles or cans here.

Bought as "Paulaner Münchner Hell". Bottled May 2015.
L: Pours clear pale color between yellow and green. Thick two fingers white head disappears quickly. Carbonation is low.
S: Tender warm smell of fresh baked bread, baked pork, with some hops on the background.
T: Rich taste of dough and oats with nice hoppy aftertaste.
F: Fits the style.
O: Very good helles, rich in taste and refreshing. I'd highly recomend to try it.

On those nights when you plan to drink a bunch of beers, I've always preferred to go with lagers. Go down easy, and the taste doesn't wear on you even after you're a few deep. For this, Paulaner is among my favorites.

Had on tap at the Paulaner brauhaus in Frankfurt. Poured into a pint stein.

L: Pours a clear golden color with thick white head.

S: Malts and noble hops. Fresh baked bread.

T/F: Malty and smooth. Hops there at the finish. Very typical for the style. Nicely carbonated and crisp/smooth.

O: A classic example of a Helles Lager. Tasty and refreshing.

Pours clear golden beer with two-finger whte head, medium retention. Smell is too papery to be admired of, somewhat floral. Taste is even and malty, common for munchner helles, some herbal hops. Classic helles.
