500ml can, day 4 of the Costco Canada 2014 Beer Advent calendar.

This beer pours a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some decently spectral webbed lace around the glass as it evenly bleeds off.

It smells of bready, doughy pale malt, a touch of further corn sweetness, stale lemon juice, a hint of gasohol, and some muted wet piney, leafy, and earthy hops. The taste is crackery, grainy pale malt, earthy yeast, muddled citrus rind, a retreating petrol astringency, and still active weedy, leafy, and sort of grassy hops.

The carbonation is quite forward in its fizzy and frothy emanations, the body an adequate medium weight, and plainly smooth, nothing overtly out of whack, but nothing worthy of expounding on either. It finishes mostly dry, the crackery pale malt, yeast, benign fruit, and lingering hops still dancing like they're the only ones who hear the music.

I'm guessing that the majority of these tall boy cans in this Advent calendar are going to be damned-near the same, if only to drive home a point to we North Americans - German, et al, lager brewers have a narrow band to which to adhere. And they generally get it right, if not exactly with something that will knock your socks off - exhibit A of a long list right here.

Light golden color with a two finger thick head with decent retention, apparent carbonation and leaving good laces.
Very light aroma of floral hops and bread malt.
Flavor is a bit more interesting that aroma showed. Flavor of floral spicy hops balanced with a controlled malt sweetness and some grassiness. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
Average refreshing pils, far from exceptional but much better than any adjunct lager. No complains.

I've travelled quite a bit around the world and sampled beer from Vietnam to Kiev and Havana to Cairo. Overall, the best beer in the world, as far as I'm concerned, is from Germany, and of these, Beckers from the Saarland was my favorite. I never tried the canned or bottled versions, having tasted Beckers only on tap in Kaiserslautern.

I checked this site to see the reviews of the new Beck's Saphire, which aren't very good. But, since these same reviews give fairly high marks to beer I do not like, and poor reviews to the beer I do like, I'll definitely be trying some Beck's Saphire.

I got this beer from my brother in law when he was on holiday in Austria. This beer however is German. From a 25 bottle poured in my Struise tasting glass. Yellow colour like pils should be. Small decent head which leaves some lacing after the head disappears. Very little carbonation.

Smell is neutral, not much going on, even the hops are far findable....

Taste is not spectacular, i have had far more better German beers. I will drink this one but after that the real work!

Pours clear golden beer with excellent white head, lingering for a long time and leaving lots of laces. Fresh, but plainish smell of grains and earthy hops. Unfortunately, taste is not so expressive. Rather calm, watery, malty, with moderate bitter finish. Carbonation is unexpectedly low. All in all the beer is decent and refreshing.

Appearance: Crystal clear yellow, lots of tiny bubbles. About an inch of foamy white head with good retention. Left generous amounts of lacing.

Smell: Just a hint of fresh pine and a little malt, delicate.

Taste: Fair amount of hops bite, astringent. No real sweetness components, this one is all hops.

Mouthfeel: Light in body, clean in finish. Plenty of carbonation to scrub the palate. Very dry, leaving a bit of the hops in the aftertaste.

Overall: Solidly refreshing. I would drink it again.

A clear, golden beer with a big head.

Smell is is an assertive hoppy and light sulfuric mix. Very pleasant and a little grainy.

Taste is a little rough and shows signs of usage of hop extract without giving a resiny taste. Just clean and simple hoppiness. The malt is pilsmalt and the yeast adds It´s mouthfeel is light, not thin. A simple pilsner, abit one/dimensional, but certainly better than expected from the label.

By the way, my label says Becker´s Pils.

Poured from tall boy. (50 cl.)

Appearance: Light yellow body with a slight head.
Smell: A hint of flower.
Taste: A clean and crisp taste with hops on the end but not much else there.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied doesn't do much for me.
Drinkability: A good beer to have during the summer at a BBQ.

Overall: Not a great Pilsner by any means but then again not that bad.
