I would give this an outstanding rating except there isn't much foam when pours into a glass.

Penn Weizen, German Hefeweizen
5.25% ABV. IBU's ???
German wheat beer

I had this from a open/wine type of glass. It was from the bottle. I am very local to the brewery, so there wasn't much time spent on transportation of the beer.

Look: It is a very golden color and becomes very cloudy after all the beer and sediments are poured into the glass properly. The head is a one inch that disapates to a tiny white ring. There is lots of lovely carbonation on this one.
Smell: It has smells very typical of a German Hefeweizen beer. There is alot of banana, clove, spice and bubblegum.
Taste: The taste very much follows the nose on this one with a little bit of additions. There is the citrus, banana, clove, coriander, wheat, bubble gum and a slight sour bitterness.
Feel: It has a nice bit of substance to the body, but also light, sparkly and creamy.
Overall: I have been looking for a good Hefe for a while and this hits all of the marks that you want in a good one. It is very easy drinking and enjoyable brew. You can have a few and still be sharp as a tack. The good news is that they didn't sacrafice any flavor for the drinkability of the beer.

This is pretty close to being carbonated banana juice. I'm no expert on the style, but this is sweeter and heavier on the banana than other hefes I've had. There's also some clove flavor, and a good bit of yeast. Mouth feel is medium heavy, a bit more body than in other hefes. Overall, it's pretty good, and I'd be happy to have another.

Poured into a custom glass: color is opaque straw/gold; head is bright white presenting 1/2 inch thick then dissipating quickly.

Smell is wonderful on this hefe: big banana, light clove, touch of biscuit - very pleasant and enticing.

Taste is similar to the aroma with a thinner finish than maybe expected: banana/clove/biscuit/wheat/bread all inter mingle; a moderate hop bitterness and crispness on the finish.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin the flavor seems flatten out very soon after drinking without much lingering breadiness. I'm wondering if the moderate bitterness cleans this beer up too much.

Overall a great looking/smelling/tasting Hefeweizen with a thin mouthfeel, but very drinkable.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a glass. no dating that i could see.

poured carefully, reveals a clear pale golden yellow with a small white head which quickly dissipates to a small ring. good carbonation, no lacing.

aroma is faintly wheat and yeasty.

taste is a bit stronger than the nose, good yeast and slight banana wash across the mouth.

Feel is between thin and medium. slightly dry on the finish.

overall, an okay hefeweizen. nothing unpleasant about it at all.

PENNSYLVANIA PENN WEIZEN 4/13/16

Another from the newest shipment from the beer club membership which my daughters gifted me.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams nonick.

a: Cloudy gold with a finger thick white head which receded to virtually nothing.

s: Mildly floral.

t: Belgian yeast fuirtiness with a tang.

m: Medium, good body and heavy carbonation tingle.

o: A decent hefeweizen. Admittedly not my favorite style, and this one is a bit more bitter than the mainstream versions that have added sweetness. Certainly would be refreshing enough in warmer. weather.

Opened this one with no expectations, and was very pleasantly surprised. Besides Weihenstephaner, the classic, I haven't found many hefes that impress, especially not from America. While lacking that wow factor (a sparkle of spice and banana with a drier finish that still lingers), it succeeds in all other aspects. Excellent hefeweizen!

Pretty good Hefe!! Good typical Wheat Beer taste, slightly dry banana aftertaste, would buy more.
