I've been drinking this one for several years, and when returning to Boston from the mountains I grab me a growler. Thought it was time to give this brew its due. There's something really unique about this one, and I can't quite place it. Hoppy, but very well-balanced. Kind of tangy aftertaste. Had it on draft at the Woodstock Inn and enjoying a growler as we speak. This is way high on my list. Just sayin'...

Update August 6, 2013: Lovin' me another growler from the Woodstock Brewery. Reading some reviews makes me realize how iffy contract brewing is. This brew is always very, very good at the brewery. Why risk damaging your reputation on a version of your product that you can't properly oversee? (I suppose the answer is obvious: $$.) But I'm not sure I would make the pilgrimage to the brewery if I tasted a pedestrian bottle.

My wife picked up a single at Price Chopper. Poured into a willy glass. Pours a reddish dark-copper color with a huge head that leaves thick lacing all over the glass. Aroma is hard to describe, as it almost seems to be leaning towards a Band-Aid plastic flavor, but not quite that bad. Just hard to describe in terms of edible flavors. Maybe sort of like a salt-water taffy or something. Taste is good, with ample bitterness balanced out by caramel malts. Mouth is good, medium-bodied, not thin at all. Overall, not a bad brew, but not something I'd seek out or buy again.
