L: Pours very dark with minimal, tan head. Very dark but not opaque. Some light passes through when held up. No appreciable viscosity.
S: Coffee, toasted malt, dried fruit. Expected more of an intense flavor, but just falls flat.
T: Mediocre. Some toast/dried fruit one would expect from a porter, additional aftertaste that is not that pleasant.
F: Oily, aftertaste and feel lasts for a while. If the aftertaste was more pleasant, I wouldn't mind as much.
O: Was hoping for more. It's Ok.

A: a very very dark red color. not much head.
S: Rubbing alcohol, rubber, sweet. and something else behind it that i can't discern.
T: Not heavy on flavor. Initially it tastes a bit like a watered down berry vanilla soda. Slight bitter coffee afterward.
M: heavier bodied, yet doesn't sit too heavy inside you.
D: pretty ok.

L: pours a deep dark brown color. Small head that dissappear rapidly.
A: roasted malts,bread,cofee,caramel and dried dark.fruits.
T&F: Starts of with a flavour of dark fruits with roasted malts and coffee in the background , the finish is dry and sweet and the aftertaste is decent.the flavour gets a little to watery, but the malt profile is quite satisfiying.iI also find it a little to sweet .Mouthfeel is smooth and is lightly carbonated.easy drinkable.
O: a interesting beer to try. A solid and decent, but maybe a little flat flavour to get a full score. Nothing really exiting about it, but drinkable enough.

Pours black with a small fading head.
Nose shows soft roasted malt, bready malt and biscuity notes.
Bready and toasty flavours, very easy-drinking and clean.

Heavy light beer, 0,5 liter bottle bough on a recent trip to Germany.
Very dark brown beer with a thin but creamy head.
Roasty malt grain and nutts in the smell and taste.. It's light on the abv. but it does go for a full flavour.
Overall: good balance between sweet malt and roasty bitterness. Nevertheless this is a beer that lacks depth. It's a bit common. It's ok, but nothing special.
Drinkable.

Drank in a pilsnerpokal.
A: pours a deep, reddish brown with a sturdy, one finger high dirty white/beige foam, leaving small traces on the glass.
Smell: coffee, bitter chocolate and roasted malt dominates the smell.
Taste: coffee, roasted malt, small bitterness and a finish that reminds me of salt liqorice.
Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, light but creamy feel.
Overall: not bad at all, really. Nice roasted flavour, bit of liqorice and coffee. All good.

33cl Bottle poured into the correct vase shaped glass in the lovely Sophien'Eck a bar in Berlin on 21 Feb 2013.
I found the beer to be a lot sweeter than I expected.
Looked good in its glass: dark reddy brown in colour with a good off-white head of creamy foam that covered the vase with lacing as the beer level sank.
The aroma was of malted biscuits and toasted brown bread but with no real hints to the sweetness within the brew.
Sweet malty molasses ruled the taste completely for me: it was OK but a shock to my system. I'd had a draught Schossler Alt just before this and the contrast was huge flavour wise.
Medium to thin on the body depth, not unusual for a Schwarzbier I suppose.
Overall I enjoyed it: but I do have a sweet tooth.

Deep dark reddish black pour with quickly fading head and no lacing. Nice complex malty nose with hints of chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Taste is much like the nose. Lots of roasty, nutty, chocolate, coffee and caramel with a touch of smokiness. The mouthfeel was a little flat which hurt the drinkability. It sweetens on the finish and is a great complement to a nice German schnitzel.

Review: 0.5l Bottle of Stortebeker Schwarz bier: ABV : 5%
Lovely looking bottle, logo of a ship, really well done and stands out.
As expected got a striking black colour on pour, but also interestingly some shades of dark red. Got a porter style tan head, which was large and very creamy. Head maintains well. Some nice lacing. Not a bad looking beer.
Lovely initial smell, was really pleasant, of roasted malts, some fruits and sweet coffee. Also got some dark chocolate on the nose. A nice balance of rustic smells. Good start.
On taste is very similar to porter, and very, very smooth. No real feel of the alcohol, at least initially. Nearly too smooth for my liking as I do like to feel some alcohol now and again, especially in a slow burner like this. No bitterness.
Safe, nothing extraordinary
Black chocolate found. Tastes light. Nice though all the same. Caramel taste apparent as well.
Nice large mouthfuls.
It is a nice beer to drink and I did enjoy drinking it.
Strong in the end, after the two bottles. Good and can do the business, but not going to set the world alight in terms of strong tastes as it is a little thin, but if it just added a bit more it could be a stand out beer as it does lack a little depth or flavour, a pity
I see they won the best black beer in Europe, a “European Beer Star” in 2010 and 2011. Frankly, that is taking the piss, lol!

Poured into 500ml Weizen glass. Colour was a deep coca cola black with a persistent caramel coloured head. Smell was malty and roasty which continued with drinking. Taste was rich dark chocolate, coffee-mocha, mudcake and cream. There was a bitterness that was barely discernable but balanced off the richness of the malt. A very slight burnt note was there but not off-putting. This is a beautifully balanced and totally enjoyable beer. A dessert beer if there is one. I loved every drop. I had it at a dinner party where everone else was drinking Tooheys Extra Dry. They looked content enough. I guess ignorance is bliss.

A hazy brown colored beer. An off-white head with good lacing and some curtains.
Smelling of bread, dates, coffee and licorice.
Tasting of dark toasted bread, figs, coffee and some soy sauce.
Medium carbonation, a soft texture. A small body with a somewhat dry finish.
Very average.

Störtebeker Schwarzbier presents itself beautifully with a good two finger thick, milk chocolate looking head, which clumps together quite nicely and lasts all the way through. This being well bodied and quite black, but produces nice deep reddish amber hues.
The aroma produces fragrances of smoke up front, but follows up with hints of chocolate, toffee, and caramel.
In the flavor, smoke is immediately detectable. It is followed up with coffee and chocolate characters.
This is well balanced and rich and character. Just a little too expensive to mark this one a good session beer. Look to spend about 5 US dollars for a half liter bottle.

500ml bottle. MHB: 16.03.12.
The pours is more reminiscent of coke than beer. It literally looks exactly like cola, the head sticks for a bit longer but other than that exactly the same, and I don't like it.
The smell is raisny with some slight hop presence and some dough.
The flavor an body is also reminiscent of soda, perhaps a root beer. This is utterly confusing.
This beer just sucks.
