Picked this up in a sampler pack of 6 different beers from this brewery in a local German super market. Deep chocolate brown pour with nice caramel colored head and decent lacing. Somewhat smokey nose with a slight metalic tinge to it. A little bit of chocolate also. The first sip was a real shocker. Had not expected the in your face sweetness from a beer labeled a porter. It had the smokey, chocolatey character of a porter but the sweetness was way too much for my tastes. It was almost a cola beer. It had the makings of a nice porter if it had not been so damn sweet. And it got sweeter as I drank more. I never pour out a beer but this was just too much to palatte. Hope the rest of the six pack is not this bad.

From the bottle, it pours a clear reddish brown with a nice off white/light tan head that lasts and leaves lacing. In the nose, it has a touch of caramel and malt. In the mouth, the same - a tad sweet, but perhaps that is the way of the Hanseatic Porter?? I think so as there is a listing for sugar in the ingredient list. Hmmm.

I thought I love all Störtebeker beers. The Weizen is awsome, the Pale Ale is nice, but the Porter is just...... sweet. Very disappointing. The label says it has alcohol. It doesn't really taste like a real beer. More like a soda or German Malzbier.
Smells sweet, drinks sticky and makes you longing for a real beer to get the sweetness out of your month.

Too sweet, not enough else...
EDIT// There's actually a bit going on there but the sugar does overwhelm -- it had added sugar!!!

Pours a clear brown coloration with an amber hue and a medium, fizzy head. Smells of sweet malt, brown sugar, caramel and molasses. Taste is dominated by a mellow malt sweetness with notes of brown sugar, caramel, molasses and a hint of dark fruit and nuttyness. This might make for a pretty decent alcoholic Malzbier, but a terrible, terrible Porter. Then again, if I wanted a Malzbier, I would buy one. Drainpoured half of this, way too sweet, very little roastiness, no bitterness at all.

L: purs a nice brown color, a small top of head are there as well. Some lacings on the side of the glass.
A: strong aroma of roasted malts and bread, with some hints of caramel and dark fruits.
T&F: very very sweet and sugary. Roasted malts and caramel in the back, but it get very dominated by the sweetness.some bitterness in the finish.
O: This beer was way to sweet for my taste, and for how I like the porters. I have no problem finish the beer, but I would not buy it again for sure.

Clear ruby brown color. Foam light beige, low and unstable, very quickly reduces.
The aroma is very poor, delicate roastiness, caramel (there is quite a lot of it here) and candied sugar.
The taste is similar to the aroma, not very intense. And, as before, there is mainly caramel and candied sugar, low flammability.
The consistency is quite watery and the sweetness that dominates here is overwhelming.
Medium saturation.
