Appearance: light yellow and clear with a two finger high foam, leaving barely no traces on the glass.

Smell: a very fresh smell of grass and apricot. A slight rubbery tone as well.

Taste: starts out rather sweet, but hop bitterness gets more and more pronounced the more you drink. It's got a buttery note to it.

Mouthfeel: rather thin, but the carbonation is high and makes it very refreshing.

Overall: It's a pretty decent pilsner. It will not rock your world, but neither will it disappoint you.

A: Enormous foamy head. Foamy as in a cross between the expanding foam you use for insulation and sea foam. Clear, highly carbonated, very thin pee yellow.

S: Strong sandy malt, that I associate with German Pilsners.

T: Sweet for a pilsner, not to my liking, but not necessarily gross. Subdued flavor, but the sweetness sits on tongue. Sweet malt.

M: Soft and not special.

O: It's not bad, I just find it too sweet, and therefore relatively unpleasant.

18th Jan 2014 and I'm at Berlin's annual International Green Week and I wandered into one of the exhibition halls to be confronted by a huge Stortebeker bar in the form of a large boat: Their Pilsner being one of the beers available on tap. It being the weakest I asked for a 0.3 litre (I was on a drinking mission and strong beers were not really an option).

The beer came looking like your usual golden, clean and clear Pilsner, with the typical white fading head.

The nose seemed stronger than most German Pilsners, this had a floral, herbal and grainy aroma.

The actual taste was weak, not much going on: refreshing enough but lacked any real flavours, good or bad. I decided it was a bog standard Pilsner with a better smell than most, but with 'run of the mill' attributes otherwise.

Nothing to set it apart from thousands of similar brews, which is a shame.

Picked this up as part of a six pack sampler from the Stralsunder Brauerei. Clear golden pour with a pure white head that quickly fades with some nice lacing. Typical German Pilsner nose with a slightly sweet smell. Also slightly sweet up front in the taste, but finishes with a nice crisp, dry bitter bite. Slightly metallic but in a pleasing way. Very decent, drinkable pilsner, especially considering the price.

-pours a Pilsner-typical straw-golden with a big,quickly dissipating foamy white head
-high carbonation rushing up the glass
-very sweet honey, grassy, spacy with an unusual sweet yeast note
-Follows the nose plus a lemon zest-y hop note
-Surprisingly bitter for a Pils
-very sweet for a Pils
light-medium body,high carbonation
a little too sweet for a Pils and slightly overcarbonated.Still a good Pils

Found a mix-pack of these beers at Penny.

500ml bottle MHB: 16.11.11.

It pours a standard Pils gold with a foamy white head that leaves some pretty nice lacing.

The smell is sharp and herbal, with a bit of dankiness and some alcoholic fruitiness. A light bready malt presence rounds it out.

The flavor is pleasant enough. The malt is rather thin, producing a bit of watery bread taste with a hint of sweetness and a hint of daicetyl in the inish. But the hops are ample, in the North-German style, with plenty of herbal bitterness, though not a huge ton.

It will probably satisfy a lot of American palates, to me though it is just barely above average.

Very standard German Pilsner from the coast of the Baltic Sea.
Pours a clean yellow beer with nice white and foamy head.
It has no strong smell but there is a little bit of pale malt character to it.
The beer tastes really nice. It is nothing out of the ordinary considering German Pilsners, but a good example of it. There are hints of Pilsner malt characterics and a few hop aromas. The bitterness is firm but at no time overwhelming.
I enjoyed this Pislner a great deal and would not mind drinking a few of these. Cheers.

The colour is yellow (5 EBC), the finger thick white compact head sinks quickly, leaving no lacing.

The smell is malty and semi-sweet with some hints of corn, butter and mild herbal hops. Some clean bitterness in the background. Hints of summer flowers. No alcohol.

The taste is clean with distinct yet mild bitterness. Herbal-flowery hops, hints of fresh butter. Medium body. The aftertaste got some French loaf, sweet candy and a growing very clean bitterness. Some alcohol and quiet a lot of sweetness in the finish.

The carbonation is strong, the many small bubbles smooth. The liquid is semi-light and just a little sticky.

If I am to judge this beer as a Pilsener from Northern Germany, it is too sweet and not enough bitter – it reminds more of the pilseners that the Danes brew. As a pale lager in general, it isn’t too bad.

Pale straw with piles of lumpy snow white head that trails. Nose is corn silk and faint cat piss.
Cut hay and sourdough bread crust with grassy hops that have hint of anise. Touch of cumin in the finish and prickly yellow plum skin linger.
Crisp, light,a bit thin but very soft.

A bit lightweight, but nothing really out of place, except maybe short on the bitterness. There's not a lot of love for pilseners on BA. Non-challenging, which you want sometimes.

This one is the "1408"'s ugly little brother. It kind of looks like a Pils when poured but without the magnificent head. The smell and tayste are also faintly Pils-like but without the bitter punch and soft malty finish which epitomises the style.

Easy enough to drink when cold that s the best I can say about it now.

Störtebecker's Pils wasn't too bad. It was sweeter than I like in a Pils, but also drier. For me, Pils and dry don't go together. A thick mouthfeel from decent protein rests when brewing helps create the feeling of Gemütlichkeit, with which, like a Bayrisch Helles or Pils, I hold as standard, and without which I find disappointing. Also, I'd hoped Störtebecker's Pils had been a bit bitterer. This is after all, a brewery marketing itself as North German brewer. They're from Strahlsund, a small city in the northeast of Germany near the Polish border. It's marketing sells the Baltic Sea (Ostsee in German) and all the hoppy connotations that entails. I hoped for a bitter, hoppy punch, but only got a dry, sweet, bland Pils. A 3 only.

Had this brew next in my mixed six pack following the 1402 Pils-Keller bier. pours a lighter, clear golden tone. Lighter in apperance than the 1402, light carbonation, medium head. Good-standard Pilsner apperance.
Aromatics musty grain, sour fruits, biscuit, citrus, pepper, toasted grain, not super intense, but solid.
Flavor is light years ahead of the aroma. A little sweet at first, but subsequent sips reveal biscuit, grains, cereal, sweet candied citrus, a touch of pepper, pineapple, overall leans heavily in the sweet-grain hand.
I actually really like this beer. The previous reviews were pretty shabby, but this Pils exibits a heavy hand with maltiness balanced by a well balanced carbonation and spiciness. It packs quite mouthfull for for 4.8%, considering most U.S. 4.8% beers.../Enjoyed it, a little pricey, but nice German "craft" experience.

Pours a brilliant light-colored straw with a half-finger of fine stocky head. Smells musty and earthy hops with decent spicy zip and a gingersnap cookie yumminess. Sulfur and grass. Tastes snappy hop bitter with grassy and floral noble hop flavor. Has alot of saaz hop character, but also some tettnanger, is grassy and straw-like in flavor. Supporting malt sweet is mild and smooth. Very dry finish works well with the zippy hops, though the beer is lacking some 'umpph' (umami?). Tin and grassy dry aftertaste. Light body and full carbonation. Nicely done!
