Dark purple-red with a smooth, slick surface.

Smell is woody grape must with graham, biscuit and rug.

Taste is also drastically altered by the barrel, with a strong grape and red wine twang, as orange peel, raisin, tobacco and menthol accent this super woody treatment.

The medium body is frothy with a semi-dry to cotton dry finish.

Pours a chill-hazed chestnut with a sliver of tan head. Stays pretty hazy, no head retention, about the same on lacing

S: Figs, leafy hops

T: Follows the nose, some peaty notes. Dryness, figs, raisins, black currants as this warms, a touch of cakeyness, a little more peatyness; a touch of booze & barrel dryness. Finishes a little dry with toffee, & faint peat notes

MF: Light/medium body, assertive carbonation. Body thickens a touch once warm, still over gassed

At $ 20 a bottle 750 mL bottle, this is a dissapointment. Had higher hopes

750ml bottle into a snifter.

A reddish mahogany color. Produced a nice sized tan head.

Smells very nice. Smells a bit like a brandy. A lot of wine and some dark fruits and peat moss.

You get a lot of sourness and crisp dry grape up front. A distinct sherry flavor. Then on the back end you can taste the base beer. Plum/raisin, caramel, and peat. The aftertaste is very earthy and really improves in the finish.

The body didnt seem to be thinned much, if at all by the barreling. Very malty and hefty.

Overall the flavors, while nice, dont seem to integrate with each other. They are closer to clashing if anything. Very distinctly noticeable

Most (If not all) people here have far more sophisticated scorings and descriptions than I will have... So let me start with just saying that I like Belgian-style beer. I enjoy dubbels, tripels, and quads. This is a very good beer, well worth experiencing. My understanding is it is in limited distribution, and fortunately I live near Akron, OH with a very good craft beer purveyor (Lizardville/Winking Lizard) nearby. Try it if you can!

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled in 6/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/light copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apple, red grape, white wine, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, brown bread, light nuttiness/chocolate, and herbal/yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, wine barrel, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apple, red grape, white wine, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, brown bread, light nuttiness/chocolate, and herbal/yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and tannic oak/wine spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apple, red grape, white wine, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, brown bread, and herbal/yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, wine barrel, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness and wine/oak spiciness balance, with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from hop bitterness and wine/oak spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is amazingly well hidden, minimal warming lingering after the finish; with zero barrel booziness. Overall this is a great wine barrel aged scotch ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, wine barrel, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Very impressive, but doesn’t seem to carry the same magic of the bourbon barrel version. A lot less drying and boozy from the barrel, but still feels lighter bodied. Great malt/yeast flavor balance and complexity; nice sherry barrel presence, without being too tannic. A very enjoyable offering.

Why the name wasn't entered in correctly who knows.. Thirsty Dog Wee Heavy aged in Sherry Barrels. Dark ruby in color, sherry on the nose. Taste of sherry upfront, then the Wulver comes through on the back end. Nice thick body. I'm excited to see what else TD puts out.

this is gold, offensively underrated here, really really amazing beer, my brother hooked this one up for us! as much sherry on this amber tinted brownish wooden looking brew, not thick or syrupy at all, but rather sort of lively and fizzy, unexpected for what it is. as soon as we crack it, the barrels are obvious, rich mature sherry oozing out of this bottle, so distinct, and nice to see it in this context, a rich and decadent scotch ale, the earthy malts in here seem to thrive on the sherry, and there is the exact right mix of sweetness, dried fruitiness of fig and date, and woody boozy swirls and wafts of mellow, time enriched complexity. the white grapey sherry has a touch of acidity, but there are vanilla and brown sugar elements here balancing that, insane amounts of oak, dr pepper soda or some weird nuance there for a second, wet tobacco, anise, toffee, and pepper, all the while pushed along by way more carbonation than i would ever expect a beer of this type to have. as much sherry here as i have known in a beer, so fancy and smooth and holiday appropriate. i need more barrel aged beers from these guys, this is expert, really one of the beers of the season for me. absolutely next level, dont let the ratings fool you, if you find this, buy it!
