Serving type: Bottle (not really a growler)

This is my second review of this beer. (I shouldn't have to cheat the BA review system to do multiple reviews of a beer. I'm going to send you great folks an email.) My love for it has only grown.

App: Beautiful for the style. Super dark, great initial head of one-two fingers. Lingers a bit but subsides to a ring around the glass. Not a lot of lacing. Could improve in this regard, but who the fuck cares about appearances when a beer is this glorious?

Aroma: Smokey, deep, sweet, smells like it would go well with good food. Steak and this beer would make good friends. I will have to try that. A little caramel, bread crust.

Taste: Tastes like smoked out, somewhat bready, chocolate. Not a dominant, overbearing choco-coffee thing, but it's there and it is important. Bread/bread crust taste comes through, especially as you start finishing this beer off. My palette is not well-developed enough to fully understand this beer. I don't care to explain it anyway, though. It's just glorious.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: Not a crushing alcohol MF considering its 9.7% heftiness. Alcohol is actually well incorporated into the flavor scheme, which is probably one of the hardest aspects to achieve in a beer. Usually breweries just try to balance it out with some other flavor to hide the alcohol, but I think it actually plays a part (and a good one) in the flavor profile of this particular brew. I think the 4-pack would be easy to finish off, but it might be a mistake to do if you have to drive home... Luckily, I am home now. Mouthfeel is halfway to a milkshake, if that makes any sense.

Overall: Fuckin'-A. This is in my top 15 beers of all time. I think I pay $2.50 a bottle in 2010 dollars (only the good invisible-impossible lord knows what it'll be with inflation next year), and I think this one is probably one of the best values for your loot in the fancy shmancy beer store (Peabody's in Boone, NC).

Just get some. I will continue to. Thank you Peabody's for keeping it in stock almost always. I'm going tomorrow to grab a 4 pack. 2 will get aged. I am excited.

Take care, beer fiends.

Thirsty Dog Brewing Company's Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout is a highly sought after beer that has received widespread recognition for its rich and complex flavor profile. This beer is well known for its deep, dark color and its bold, robust taste.

Appearance: Siberian Night pours with a thick, creamy head that leaves a beautiful lacing on the glass. Its color is a deep, dark brown that is nearly black. The beer is extremely opaque and has a viscous, oily appearance.

Aroma: The aroma of Siberian Night Imperial is a complex mix of dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Hints of dark fruit and a subtle smokiness round out the scent, making it a treat for the senses.

Taste: The taste of Siberian Night is intense and complex. It starts with a rich, creamy sweetness that gives way to a bold, roasty bitterness. The flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt are prominent, while notes of dark fruit, such as raisins and figs, add depth to the beer's flavor profile. The finish is smooth and long, leaving a pleasant aftertaste.

Overall Impression: Overall, Thirsty Dog Brewing Company's Siberian Night is an exceptional beer that should not be missed. Its rich and complex flavor profile makes it an ideal choice for beer connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with a hearty meal, this beer is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Against better judgment, two, not just one brown twelve ounce bottles were emptied into a clear glass liter mug. It turns out just like it should. There's a thickly foamed light tan head, that seems to be enduring, atop an opaque black coffee brown liquid. The aroma is only of roasted malt, but not notable for its strength. However, it's praiseworthy for not having a strong alcohol character, despite the high ABV. Then, it drinks smoothly, again praiseworthy considering the high ABV. The only big taste at the forefront is roasted malt. Not to mislead, there is alcohol to taste, far more than to smell. But, it seems to sweeten the taste and certainly doesn't make it any less pleasant. This is a very good Imperial Stout, but it's taste is just a little short from joining the greats in its category. As good as the body is, the roasted malt flavor falls just a little short of the fuller flavored best ones. There's only scant glass lacing, but the higher the ABV, the more likely this occurs. Maybe not the best, but not much less than the best Imperial Stouts available.

Pours blacker than black with a tidy brown head that lasts quite a while and leaves a fine ring. It looks "thick".

The smell hit me with chocolate first then a tidal wave of roast malt, pretty close to if not burnt in some part. A bit if coffee perks thru eventually. Molasses and a small bit of dates or maybe prune.

The taste is roast malt, bittersweet chocolate, acrid coffee, a very small taste of dark fruits. A hint of milk chocolate, molasses/brown sugar and a very slight sweetness. The roast evolves into a bit of charred emptiness.

It doesn't feel as thick as I thought it would, but it is plenty thick enough. Dry and bitter finish, a slight chalky feeling and an oddly lingering sweetness.

11/20/21 Marilyn's on Main in Morgantown. On tap.

Wow! Such a different imperial stout with very little sweetness. Tobacco, bitter chocolate and smokey. Finish is leather and tobacco ashes. I liked this, but DW made a face on this one!

Picked up a 12 oz bottle from TW-Greenville SC 7-19-21 for $2.99. Bottled 01-11-21; consumed 10-18-21.

Beer poured black as night with a very nice tan head with the original pour.

Nose is nice, roasted malt city which gives you the essence of what is about to come.

Taste is a blast of roasted malts that lend a touch of chocolate and toastiness. Finishes well balanced with no trace of residual sweetness and alcohol burn.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and very creamy and smooth.

Overall a really likable imperial stout, reminds me of Bell's Expedition stout but slightly smaller which is not a bad thing!

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from my local Giant Eagle store. It poured an opaque dark with very thin ran ring head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had bourbon and vanilla notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with molasses and bourbon highlights. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.
