poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass

A-very dark brown with less than a finger of head that faded quickly to a small ring

S-some coffee and dark chocolate, but I also get a somewhat mettalic smell that is the strongest smell of all

T-Luckly that metal smell doesn't come into the taste nearly as much. some coffee and chocolate follwed by some dark fruits with a slight metal finish

M-ok carbonation dry finish though maybe that is where I am getting the metal from in the tase

O-not bad and I will probably try again if I run across this in Iowa

Appearance is pitch black, with not a hint of light to be found, even around the edges. The brown head is average for the style, and leaves very little lacing. The smell has hints of dark chocolate, coffee, and caramel. The taste reminds me of a dark roast coffee, with a hint of cocoa. The alcohol is well hidden behind the strong roasty flavor. The mouthfeel is very good - thick and viscous. An all-around good imperial stout.

12 oz bottle into a Belgian snifter.

Poured with a short, tan head atop a black body. Spots of sticky lacing.get left on the glass.

Aroma: medium-strong with lots of roasted dark malts, hints of molasses, caramel, vanilla, ripe dark fruits, brown sugar and chocolate.

Flavor: strong, lightly sweet with a mildly bitter aftertaste. Hints of brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, ripe dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate and licorice. Tasty!.

Feel: Full bodied; high viscosity; low carbonation; mild but lingering alcohol heat in the finish.

Overall: an excellent Imperial stout, I prefer this to many other RIS' including the Founders Imperial Stout I had (again) just two days ago.

A - Pours out dark as night with a rich small looking mocha head that dies down into the sides of the glass which leave nice sheets of lacing. Looks like an imperial stout. Has yeast in the bottom of bottle so careful if you do not want it in your glass.

S - Strong dark chocolate smell dominates this one along with a strong roast, coffee, sweet chocolate , creamy carmel, not a trace of the alcohol.

T - Toffee, dark Intense bitterness of coco nips, roast, burnt coffee, wood, slight alcohol, strong roasted bitterness left on the palate with a trace of a dark fruit flavor in the end.

M - Nice creamy medium full bodied, slightly chewy brew that slides down rather easy for an imperial stout.

O - A rather impressive Imperial Stout that would be great to try on any chilly night. Really easy to drink and rather tasty, a must try for any beer geek. Cheers!
