We headed here after lunch at New Holland not knowing what to expect since it’s a relatively new place that wasn’t reviewed much. After driving a bit in Benton Harbor we weren’t sure we were in the right area until we noticed the small sign hanging in front of the doorway. This area seemed a bit run down but we were later told there was an effort now to revitalize the area and some newer places had opened up with this brewpub being a great addition in my opinion. When you first walk in you there is an upstairs area which was closed and a downstairs bar which we pulled up to the bar at. It was around 3 or so and we were the only ones there at the time except the Bartender and someone preparing the food. The downstairs was a cozy smaller area with 12 or so tables a pool table and food counter/coffee bar. There were big wood beams all across the ceiling and tree post columns coming down from them around the room. Definitely a chilled out atmosphere I could see coming to if I lived close. After talking a bit with the bartender she gave a tour of the upstairs which on the way she’d showed us a small beer garden that was between the bar building and the adjacent building where all the brewing was done. The upstairs area was huge with a similar feel to it. There was a lot more seating, a stage and a DJ booth in the middle of the floor that was made from some old contraption from the old horse livery. There was also a third floor which provided balcony like seating that you could view the stage from and had plenty of seats. The total seats upstairs were 5 times the smaller downstairs. Also there was an art exhibit on around the walls of the balcony level of a local artist. I imagine this place would be perfect to catch some live music and great beer at. Very unique and cozy feel to it that would make a great regular hang out for me.

Now on to the beers, which there were 12 on tap at the time and a hand pump that wasn’t being used. They had a nice variety of style on 2 IPAs, a double IPA, Tripple Bock, Helles Lager, Irish Stout, Cask Aged Belgian Raspberry Wheat, a Pale Ale, Bitter and a few other. I started with the Double IPA which was great, nice and juicy with hops. I had a sample of the Tripple Bock next which was very unique and tasty and I would have got a glass if it wasn’t 13% and I was driving so I opted for the Cask Aged Belgian Cherry wheat. It also was delicious and quite unique, no overly sweet or artificial tasting at all. My girl tried both IPA’s and their stout which were all good and few got a growler of one of the IPA’s to go. I should have got a growler or 2 of the three I tried but they were a bit more expensive, the Tripple bock would have been 40. Which is understandable for such a small operation and a cool experimental beer. Nothing bad to say about any of the beers I have tried, I was very impressed. I enjoyed everything about this place and highly recommend it. By the time we left an hour and a half later there were 10 or so people there.

I wasn't that impressed the first time I visited but definitely had a better experience during subsequent visits. During my second set of visits they have an impressive beer list which included everything from a BB triple bock, sours, adjunct heavy stouts, as well as less "extreme/exciting" beers. Vibe is decent, lots of locals but bartenders were friendly and attentive. Food isn't the fanciest but tasty and reasonably priced. They also had plenty of bottles for sale to go and were willing to put anything they had on tap in a growler.

My wife and I stopped here for dinner and beers while on a mini-pub crawl on a Sunday afternoon. The place was not busy at all. This was our third visit here, but no review was done from the previous visits, both of which were over two years ago when the pub was located in the basement of this building. The main floor setting is much better for some pub vibe, and it also has more space (including a stage) and more natural light. The third floor is a mezzanine area that overlooks the main floor, and it provides some extra seating space. A patio is also available for those who want outdoor seating. There was a very good selection of recorded music playing, which is something that I've never commented about in any review.

We ordered a sampler flight of 6 beers of our choosing that I thought would give us a good representation of the entire beer menu. I was not disappointed at all in these beers. All of them were brewed to excess for their style, and we ended up giving them an overall score of a 4.0 rating (out of 5). We felt that the Polar Vortex Imperial Maibock was very notable, and the others were not far behind. If someone is not a beer lover, this pub also offers 4 wines too.

The food menu is mainly pizzas and deli sandwiches, but the pizza was better than I've had in any pub before. The combo of ingredients on the menu-listed pizzas (you can also build your own) was very original, and the one that we selected was the tops.

This was just a great place for for some beer and food, and we'll have to make it a point to come here more often.
