Pours black with a small head.
Rich aroma of dark chocolate, raisins, molasses, tar and cinnamon. Very complex, very rich!
Roasty flavours with not much of the aforementioned complexity. Some cocoa shows. Still, nice enough and manages to be quite rich.
Nice rich body with low carbonation.

Chocolatey coffee colour in the glass. S - rich coffee and sweet malty notes. T - lovely rich coffee malt flavours with hop bitterness coming through lightly at the end. M - really like the feel and carbonation. O - thoroughly enjoyed this porter with a good balance of richness in the coffee and chocolate malt and dryness at the end. Would definitely have this again.

From notes - on-tap at Baxter Inn, served well-chilled and light supplied by not much more than candles.

Lovely looking beer, one finger dense head sits for ages. Black as.

Aromas of roast malts, chocolate, coffee and surprisingly a hint of pear.

Taste follows nose silky smooth, on money for porter-style.

Mouthfeel silky medium bodied

Excellent tap beer.

Pours a dark amber. Large fluffy head slowly settles to a thin, crema-esq head.

Sweet malt aroma, coffee notes,

Taste is very clean. Great hit of sweet malts, a little toffee. Well rounded bitterness. Possibly too sweet as beer warms a little. Flavour seems thiner - going against marketed material promoting it as a full bodied, slightly stronger version of the style.

Mouthfeel is somewhat thin for the style which it's helped by a lower than expected carbonation level.

Overall, a pleasant and easy to drink dark beer.

On tap at preachers Hobart

Nearly pitch black with a nice dark tan head. Good stability and lacing. Low carbonation.

Mellow aroma but nice character.
Taste has a great mix of chocolate coffee and caramel. Very good malt balance and complexity without being overly sweet or heavy.

Superb mouthfeel and drinkability. Could have had several more if I hadn't been driving.

Pours dark black with a thin tan head

Chocolate, coffee and some vanilla. A hint of cherry in there.

Similar to the aroma, heaps of esprsso, bitter toast notes. Very nice. But I just want a little more.

Bang on for the style, not too full. Sessionable.

Overall, a decent drop. Could certainly have a few. Just wish it had a few more subtletys to it.

Chocolatey aroma with nice espresso notes.

Dark brown colour with a nice persistent tan head.

Full flavoured porter with bitter chocolate, coffee and mildly tart roast notes.

Moderate body with moderate carbonation.

This is a decent porter with good flavour but it isn't particularly amazing.

A very dark porter firstly. Hardly any head and no real retention either. Aromas are quite pleasant cocoa and roasted malt.Slightest hint of liqorice. Pefectly dry and smooth. Somewhat more chocolatey in flavour with a well balanced mouth feel and a lengthy finish. There is the tiniest hint of sourness but it's negligible. Good porter, good brewery. I'll be back.

A: Dark, brown, & porty, with a lose fizzy head that disappeared & left next to nothing lacing

S: Not too strong...but roasty & dark, & a touch fruity...

T: This was the let down...I am a fan of a straight out strong dark coco-ish porter...but this was a little too complex in a tarty way...had a tart sweetness to it, a little winey, & was a real letdown...

M: spritzy & a little too carbonated...

O: overall not that brilliant, I don't think I'd go here again, which is a shame cos I love me Porters...

This pours a dark brown with a little head which quickly disappears.

The nose is a bit dumb for my liking. A little bit of dark fruit and a whiff of alcohol but not a lot more.

The dark fruit is a bit more prevalent on the palate.

It is a little bit fizzy.

Dull boring fizzy.

Pours a dark mahogany leading to brown in colour. Light tan head with low retention.

Strong nose of fruits, chocolate and some toffee/caramel notes. A real layer of toast as well.

Dark chocolate dominated the palate, but is backed up well by the roasted flavours. Some licorice and spice on the after palate.

Mouthfeel is the highlight - very luscious, textured and creamy. Good balance, perhaps a little spritzy, but otherwise very good. Hides the alcohol well.

Good beer, was pricey but seemed to deliver.

A - Extremely dark brown with little tan head.
S - Roasted malt & mildly sweet chocolate with some dark fruit aromas.
T - Along the same lines as the smell but with the dark fruit flavours coming through a bit more at first with a nice slightly bitter sweet chocolate finish.
M - Smooth mouthfeel with medium carbonation.
D - Tasty beer with a nice warming ABV%. A few of these on a cold winters night would be alright in my books.

Pours dark mahogany with a small biege head with moderate retention, no lacing. The smell was dominated by hops, with roasted malt aromas only very faint. Hops were quite harsh, detergent like. A little caramel comes through as warms, but still faint. To taste, the flavour is again hop dominated, with a little bit of biscuity malt and some winey flavours just detectable, but if I close my eyes it seems I'm drinking a Oz-style pale ale rather than a porter. It has a reasonable length of bitterness. Moderate carbonation. Overall it seems an okay beer, but not very porter like. Reading the other reviews, though, I wonder if this one was duff.

This is the biggest Australian Porter I’ve found so far. 6.4% alcohol. This thing pours a Coca-Cola brown with (unfortunately) a fairly thin head – or maybe it was just the conservative pour. Anyways, the aroma is chocolaty dry with a definite waft of alcohol. Big smell. The taste is just as big. Chocolate, cocoa, dry, alcohol, but still a thin mouthfeel. Those yeast must have been working overtime. In my notes I wrote down “high attenuation” but I might have been drunk. Regardless, this is almost like a double porter in my book. A few of these will put you under the table. Happily, though.
