Small package store in strip shopping center on the main thoroughfare. 4 or 5 coolers of craft, mostly well distributed brands and a few regionals, few limited selection of single cans. friendly service.

Brewster Beer & Soda is a small place in a strip mall in suburban, almost rural Westchester. The beer is right as you enter; you'll find packs of Lagunitas, Central Waters (Bourbon Barrel), Thirsty Dog Siberian Night, Lenny's RIPA, Victory, Flying Dog, Dogfish and lots of Founders...

Some of them are sold chilled from a cooler, others sit at room temp covered in dust. They have a 40-dollar pack of Dogfish 120 at the counter, and a lonely Long Ireland Black Friday Imperial Stout. Six lines for growlers, which seems to be a healthy tradition around Westchester.

OK if you live nearby... and I mean real close by because the mighty DeCicco's is four miles down the road within the same town.

This is the site of my coming of age in Danbury, CT back in the 70's. My friends and I would make many runs to Brewster where the selection was greater, the prices good, the stores open later, etc., etc. This old store (small warehouse really) used to be called AJ's and my last couple visits over the past year seem somewhat a far cry from it's hay day. It's kind of dark and gloomy now and it seems to only have a couple people running it. But it remains a beer outlet and there are thankfully a few decent choices here, although they are mostly the more common micros like Magic Hat, Red Hook, Long Trail and others. Good choices, but not highly adventurous. There was a fair amount of imported specialties, but again nothing startling. I did find a four pack of Greene King IPA's that I haven't seen too much elsewhere, but otherwise, I had trouble finding anything new to try here. A sad reunion for me, but not the worse choice for the local BA. The lone staffer at the register was pleasant but I didn't get the sense that she majored in brewology, but I didn't really test her either.

I spotted this small place on the left as I headed north on Rt. 22. From the outside it looks like a smallish and typical macro centered place. It basically is, with loads of swill filled cases in the middle, on the leaf and in the rear of the store, both warm and in coolers towards the rear. The saving grace of the place is the area to the left of the cash register area that is home to a moderate selection of BA worthy brew. Stone, Allagash, Brooklyn, Unibrew, some Brit, and German imports and some of the typical micro selections available in the area. The guy behing the counter was friendly, which allways is a plus. Nothing special, but an OK place to get some worthy, higher quality beer.
