i found this place by accident. i just noticed all the great beer ads hanging up outside for Troegs, Dogfish, Penn and others. i was very impressed by the selection. i found several styles from my favorite breweries that i hadn't found elsewhere (Dogfish Golden Era, Penn Brewery Penndemonium) as wel as breweries i'd never seen in MD (Erie Brewing). the people who work there are friendly and not only knew about this site but were glad i wanted to put up a review. i have appointments in Hagerstown at least twice a week and fully intend to make this one of my stops.

Pretty solid place.

Very tucked away and unassumingly outside of Hagerstown, near the picturesque area of Antietam Creek.

The store is a tiny almost barn looking like building, which has half of the building dedicated to its beer selection. Selection is pretty good, with a mix of bombers and 6 packs. Foreign is nicely organized with some good things if a little tiny. There's a section also where you can get a few singles that are broken up that aren't the usual mass market beers.

The isles are a bit crammed which makes finding things sometimes a bit of a chore as things are just slammed on top of each other, and with a little bit of concern that you will knock something over. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable in finding items, and also good in answering questions as they were helpful with me in finding new items.

A worthy stop if you are in the area.

Guided to this great little place from Beer Advocate on trip him from D.C. Great selection, lots of variety packs, and friendly service. Only down-side was no local singles for mixed sixers.

Very nice selection of craft beers. Belgium and German 500ml bottles very well organized and displayed on shelves. Domestic crafts usually in the coolers or still in the cases stacked on the floor. The full time employees are very knowledgeable and will suggest an alternative brew if they don't have what you want. If it is distributed in Maryland, they can usually can get it..

Nice clean little store, beer aisles are a bit crowded but they have a ton of beer shoved in there. Pricing seems decent and the employees are knowledgeable and helpful. If you ask they typically have some special beers stored in the back.

This place has a nice rotating selection of local and some hard to find beers to the area. The prices are reasonable and the staff is helpful. If I'm looking for a hard to find beer this is usually the place I stop first. I would be hesitant to purchase some bottles of the wooden shelves in the back. Some of them are covered with dust, it's hard to tell how long some of them have been there. It's not a big deal if your looking for a sour though. Overall, a great place to check out if you're in the area.

Discovered Wooden Keg after googling 'best beer store' in Hagerstown MD. Stopped in on a Thursday late morning in April. Big delivery day. Service was outstanding - Joe was very helpful. Selection was excellent for the MD/PA area. They get a higher volume of hard-to-find beers than almost anybody else out there. Picked up a case of fresh Green Flash Road Warrior, SN N Hemisphere fresh hop, a few sours, and some fresh Mo (Maine Beer Co) Most stuff is fresh, but others are not, especially if they're pushing a close-out deal. Always check the date. Nice selection of barrel aged beers and sours. Highly recommend!

Stopped in here as I was "passing through." Not particularly right off the main road, but well worth the 10 or so minutes to get there off the highway.

The beer section is rather cramped with many boxes sitting out that are setup to create aisles to walk through. The highlight of the visit was when one of the employees pointed out that they just got in a sour from New Belgium; Le Terroir. I was very happy to see this one, and grateful that he pointed it out. Of the many things laying out, some of them had a massive wad of dust on them. For the Old Embalmer '12, and things like it, it's perfectly fine.

I got a lot of nice brews here, so it was a nice stop.

My #1 'go-to' craft beer store...& I live 6+ hours away. 'Nuff said. Some expensive stuff there, but hey, the best doesn't come cheap. It's really nice that an out-of-state resident can still get primo treatment there (with the help of nearby relatives and friendly staff who're willing to reasonably hold a killer bottle or two for you). If you sleep on this place, you're missing out. And that's more great beer for the rest of us.

An absolutely great selection of hard-to-finds, rarities, and limited release craft beers. A must go to store when I pass through Hagerstown. Always an exceptional selection of Seasonals, and a unique for the area selection of imports.
The staff is friendly, helpful, and willing to look for the particular beers you want at the moment. They know what they sell, and will give you what you want, not what they want to sell.

The prices are reasonable and fair, undercutting on some items by almost 50%. I wonder how they do it.

Visited while driving from Pittsburgh to Baltimore a few weeks ago.

My main goal was to load up on beer that I can't buy in Atlanta, so ideally I only wanted one stop that was right off of the motorway. My fellow BA reviewers hold Wooden Keg Liquors in high regards, and for that I am thankful that as y'all directed me to a store that fit the bill. Perhaps 10 minutes out of my way, I was thinking I had gone the wrong was seeing as the store was in a fairly residential area. I stopped in right before closing time, so I didn't have but about 20 minutes to browse.

The store is essentially a warehouse. Doesn't look too aesthetically pleasing, but it gets the job done. I can't see the atmosphere of the place ever being above a "3", but I personally don't care too much for atmosphere as far as stores go. It was just stacks and stacks of beer on the floor between shelves and coolers. Lots of good stuff, I was able to load up on some Maryland products like DuClaw and Brewer's Art, as well as tasty delights not found in my neck of the woods, like Troegs and Ballast Point. Maybe not the deepest selection, but I don't know the area's beer market so well and it met my needs. After a quick stop and a credit card swipe for 100$, I was completely content.

Service was there - cordial, and from what I overheard the one guy talking to a customer about home brewing, they know their stuff. A great place to stop for an out-of-towner.

Best beer store in western Maryland. I travel up from martinsburg, wv to stock up in bulk. They renovated in 2012, and have a lot more room which gave more room for additional bombers and cases. They stock a number of rotating west coast and east coast beers, along with a big selection from several Maryland brewers like flying dog and heavy seas. Cases can sometimes be stacked close to the ceiling.

Staff is great, and have helped order out of stock beers for me. Worth a taking a detour.

The wooden keg is the only place in washington county to go for your beer, wine, and liquor needs. Their selection of craft beers is by far one of the best I've seen outside of the west coast and it just keeps growing weekly (check out their facebook page if you need proof) and if you aren't sure what you're looking for the staff is always more than willing to chat with you and deduce your particular "style" and recommend you one or two things that will be perfect for you. I have never been dissatisfied with a recommendation.
The wine selection is also large and boasts quite a number of local vineyards that are always fun to try. Prices range from ridiculously cheap to moderate, with nothing ever seeming overpriced for the quality.
The new addition they added over the last year or two has definitely opened up the space enough to let you wander for awhile and not feel claustrophobic.
If you're a local or just someone passing through I absolutely recommend making a trip here for all your alcohol needs!

I stopped here on my way up I-81, curious what I might find in Maryland. I am not sure there was anything I couldn't find in VA or PA, and it was further off the highway than I thought, but it was well worth the stop.

Great little liquor store, with piles of craft beer right as you enter. The selection wasn't the biggest, but it was well chosen and their were a number of hard to get and just released selections.

Both staff members made me feel welcome and appreciated, and were knowledgeable and made some good recommendations. New arrival announcements via facebook is a good feature.

If I lived in the area, I would be a regular here for sure.

The Keg is by far the best bottle shop in the area. They carry a wide variety of brews from all over the world. If they don't have it, you can get many things ordered special. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and will make great recommendations if you are not sure exactly what you want. I prefer telling staff a style I want and then trusting what they recommend. They will never steer you wrong. The recent expansion has taken care of the previous space issues. Prices are very reasonable whether you are buying a case of OML or a six pack of Torpedo. If you are in the area it is a must to stop in.

The Keg is the most legit beer shop in the MD area. The beauty of the shop lies in the unassuming layout and setup of the shop, paired with a super expansive beer selection.

Can't find what you're looking for? The super knowledgeable staff can find it for you, make recommendations, and might if turn you on to something you didn't even was up your alley.

Whatever your level of beer connoisseur, they'll make sure you walk out with the beer right for you.

The prices are on point, the selection grows weekly, and you'll never feel like you're out of place.

If you're a beer person you can't miss stopping by the Keg. It might be out of the way, but it's worth every extra mile.

Was heading to DC area from Morgantown and this place seemed to have alot of great reviews so I went to check it out. Its really in the middle of nowhere so if you think you're lost when you driving to it, you're probably in the right area.

Great selection of beers like mentioned before. Stone, DFH, Southern Tier, Sierra Nevada.

Within 5 minutes, one of the workers came up and asked if we needed any help. I was in search of the holy grail of 120 minute which he actually had, though it was 2008 vintage. He also had some 2008 World Wide Stouts. Both of these were in the $20 range per bottle which I didn't bite. He recommended several beers while we were there.

For the area other than DC, they seemed to be the place to go. Cheap as well, especially compared to DC.

I grabbed some bombers while I was there: Stone Ruination, Southern Tier Mokah, and Lungintas Lucky 13.alt.

Would recommend this place to anyone.

reviews are accurate. Not much too look at but the effort is there and they seem to be expanding. Bit tight in the aisles for a big guy like me but packed with quality merchandise. Nice folks, attentive without being pushy, knowledgable, nice selection of some harder to find stuff. Maryland prices seem high in general based upon this trip but they didn't seem crazy.
Liked that they have DuClaw and Evo and a few smaller places that don't get all that much pub but are quality shops. Seemed to have decent wine and liquor as well but beer takes a front seat here.
If in the area stop by and see these folks, imagine they are best within 40-50 miles.
