The beer pours a light golden color with a frothy white head that fades quickly and laces the glass. The nose is of pale malts and bitter hops. They say this is a tradional Munich style lager. I have no idea what that means. It tastes just like any other lager I've ever tried. The taste is clean and crisp, but lacking any real character. The mouthfeel is good; a low body. The beer is a gusler, no doubt. It just does nothing for me, like most lagers.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle with a very bold label. An "H" with wings and the word "Helles" jumps out. No freshness date.

Appearance: A light & bright golden beer that pours a thick foamy white head, leaving a crawling sticky, patchy white lace as it settles. Good clarity.

Smell: Grain, light fruit esters and a delicate hop aroma in the back. Seems closer to an American lager aroma to a true German Helles brew but still clean to the nose.

Taste: Smooth with a pale malty palate. Carbonation is tight, making its texture rather creamy. Sweetness is moderate, but full in the moderate body with faint fruity characters -- mostly grape comes to mind. Slight hop bite in the bitterness that turns to a very gentle spice and floral flavour -- a bit lemony with a touch of astringent grain. Somewhat on the dry side, with a drop of residual sweetness. The finish has dry grain and husk tannin flavours that linger on for a spell.

Notes: A nice surprise from Pete's, and a very drinkable Helles-style lager. Particularly impressed by its overall balance with a clean palate. Not a bad brew for the "new" Pete's offerings.

A drinkable brew but not the best I've ever had. This one poured a golden color with a slightly frothy white head that faded quickly. The smell was grainy with a little bit o Saaz hoppiness in there. The flavor was quite weak with a little bit of spicy hops but not much else. If you are looking for a good Helles, go somewhere else!

One of the better American brewed lagers that have been aimed at the German Helles style, a good ice breaker beer for the usual party that lacks good beer.

Clear medium golden appearance, a nice 1/2 inch light head on a hard pour. Scant lace, marked by incomplete rings. Aroma is malty, some sense of rolled oats, slight bits of bran and papery elements. Flavor is fairly laid back, malty with a touch of gritty grain and a reserved hop that sits on the sidelines. The overall impression is tight but a little too consistant, could have used better attenuation and hop tang at the end. Not bad, drinkable enough. This beer has been sitting at the back of my fridge since maybe January, but only the slight paper in the aroma suggested oxidation.

Dark golden color, with a fluffy white head. Nice and bubbly. Scent is light and clean, with a touch of hops. Flavor has a good balance of malt and crispness from hops. Good drinking beer, but nothing all that spectacular. I do like the light, airy appeal to it, though.

Overall, I'd call it light, clean, drinkable, and simple.

Beautiful appearance! It pours a crystal-clear tawny-gold with a creamy bright white head that holds! Its fantastic head retention is buoyed by streams of tiny fast-rising bubbles. It leaves some very nice patchy white lace throughout the glass. The nose is limited but offers some softly sweet and grainy malt with a mild touch of fruitiness and some delicate, floral hops in the deep background. The body is medium/light with a very fine and moderate carbonation that caresses the tongue before becoming smooth and creamy in the mouth. The flavor combines a moderately rich, lightly sweet, delicately fruity (possibly due to Vienna malts) and mildly toasty malt (Munich character is definitely evident) with a light touch of floral/gently spicy hop flavor and exquisitely balanced bitterness. It finishes dry with some short lived residual maltiness. Although it doesn't stack up against an actual helles from Munich, it's a decent interperetation that makes a great cross-over beer or summer BBQ favorite. Very well done and worth trying.

Clearish light brown with a smallish white head, no retention, and no lace. The nose very quiet, some malt and spice. The aroma is right-on for the style, just too light. The flavors are malty and silky but some undesirable tackiness creeps in. Carbonation works well. This is an average beer overall, fair at best in regards to representing the style. I’ll drink the other bottle I have and that will do. Helles Lager is indifferently average.

Dayton, OH AleFest:A light bodied beer that was very smooth on the palate. When poured, this beer had a large creamy white head that contained fine sized bubbles. The body was clear and there was some carbonation noted. The hue was straw yellow and the nose was malty and also clove. The flavor was lightly bitter.

This beer does not fully live up to its name. Its a Pete's, it's wicked, but it is not my idea of a true Helles. The beer had poor head retention, was excessively carbonated, tasted dry and did not have the underlying maltiness you look for in a helles. Since Diamond Bear Brewing Co. no longer produces it's "Munich Lager", perhaps Pete can buy their recipe. it would be a marked improvement.

Pours a pale straw color with a white fizzy head that is gone after approx 30 seconds. Not much in the way of smell, some light (adjunct?) sweetness and that is pretty much it. Slight hop bitterness is the first thing to hit you followed by the sweetness that is slightly improper. A helles is supposed to have sweetness but it is supposed to come from malted barley and it seems to me that this doesn't.Fairly decent, albeit watery, mouthfeel and decently drinkable. Pete's used to put out good brews and it is really dissappoints me that they have recently gone so far downhill.

Pretty thin in the flavor department, even for the style. Would be a pretty good backyard BBQ choice, but not much here for sipping alone.

Nearly clear golden yellow color, thin head despite a hard pour. Nice malt and faint hop smell, it smells like beer. No acrid grainyness, or skunked smells that usually show up in light lagers. Taste was crisp, balanced, and surpisingly good. Nice beer taste, much better than the macros. A bit thin, but easy to drink. Nice summer beer, or a beginner beer, for your non-enlightened friends.

The beer pours the typical lager clear golden yellow, head is moderate in size, bright white in color and a frothy texture with a decent covering of lace. Nose is citrus crisp and fresh, somewhat sweet as is the start, top is light to middling in feel. Finish is crisply acidic, hops apropos to the style, very dry after taste, a drinkable beer, but nothing that thrills me much.

Pale in color with a white head the beer has large bubbles throughout (force carbonation big time). malt nose with hints of hop bitterness. Smooth maltiness in the taste, i would enjoy this better with a little more hop character.. a nice crisp finish would help it out nicely.. but this is not so... One of the better Pete's brews I have tasted, but only slightly above average to the "comparison other" .

Pours golden with a very thick and persistent head. the nose is weak but hoppy. The taste is very hoppy with a hint of the malt. Taste excellent going down though - I recommend big gulps that linger on the palate. Has a bitter finish to it also but no ugh factor.

Medium golden color with a fairly thick snow-white head, mild carbonation, good lace, decent head retention. Aroma consists of grains and mild hops. Taste begins with sweet malt and a mild wave of carbonation. Midway through the taste, slightly bitter and spicy hops appear. Finish seems rather dry. A pleasant enough beer, though for me its a little late in the year for this style. Probably would be best on a sweltering summer afternoon.

The head settles quite quickly, but is persistent enough to leave a moderate lace. The clarity of the light golden brew is excellent and is either a result of ample lagering or excessive fining agents. There's a touch of graininess in the aroma, but a very slight grassy hop nose can be perceived. Clean but unexciting in aroma. Although the body is typical for a Helles, the malt flavors are a bit lacking. Domestic barley just doesn't have the richness of continental barley-- it's just too neutral. The hop bitterness is low and appropriate for style. The very clean and innocuous overall taste makes for a quaffable brew, but there's certainly nothing outstanding about Pete's Helles. I seriously craved Paulaner's Helles when drinking this one. There are, however, no flaws in this beer.

Bought a 6 pack of this for $2.99 in the "cheapo grocery outlet" here goes..
Beer actually pours quite nicelly into the glass..large foamy head that sinks somewhat but persists..good golden coloured beer..attractive looking carbonation.
Smell is barelly tangible what is present is an aroma of sweet malt.
Actually not too bad a taste either..nice malty taste at first then further on a goodish hop bite,,its semi-dry..quite nice
Pretty good in the mouth feels good on the tongue good after taste..
All in all a very drinkable beer,,espesially in the hot days of summer comeing up.

An above average lager. Went down smoothly, very easy to drink, would definitely buy again. A very nice beer. Really...he was nice to me. Pete, that is.

Unimpressive. Pale straw color with slight, dissapearing head. Dissapointing aroma and maltiness. Seems to have an artificial sweetness. Light body. The beer falls outside of style parameters. It's something more like a sweet american style lager. Better than typical macros, but it was a let-down.

I was a little bit disappointed with this Helles from Pete's. While it isn't heavily flawed, it just seems to be sitting on the fence of mediocrity in all facets. Still a notch ahead of most mainstream macros, this is a good choice if all that is available is the same old stuff.

Pete's Wicked Helles pours a very nice golden color, but the thin, fizzy/foamy head that forms disappears in under 30 seconds into nothingness. The smell has some light malt and some mild hoppy aromas, but I thought I detected some corn, which would explain the "cheap smell" in the aroma. Mouthfeel is thin and a bit over-carbonated. The flavor is rather unspectacular as well. There is an almost decent malt presence here, lending some cracker-like notes to the beer, but what I perceive to be corn arrives here as well. There is an herbal/lightly fruity hoppiness present, and the finish is moderately drying. Aftertaste has some neutral grain flavors, and yes, light corn. This one finishes off with a very light alcoholic warmth.

I certainly expected more out of this, but it ended up tasting like a middle-of-the-line macro lager to me (see Michelob). A decent, drinkable beer, but probably not worth the admission Pete is charging.
