Picked this up at Pyramid in Seattle. Great dark pour with very little head. Nose is encouraging with a lot of coffee and dark fruit. Taste is similar with a lighter mouthfeel than expected. This is not my favorite style of beer but is a solid porter from a very good brewery.

An American interpretation of a Baltic Porter? Never seen one before, so I had to give this one a shot!

A - Pours a deep, nearly black brown, with a nice two finger tan head, with moderate head retention and lacing.

S - Smell is heavily of burnt espresso, chocolate, a faint smokiness, a little bit of caramel, and plum.

T - Taste is of chocolate/caramel malts up front, with a biscuity texture, but finishes coffee notes and a slight acidity. The smokiness found in the scent is not really present in the taste. Overall, it's a bit on the sweeter side than most American porters, but not as much as most Baltics I've tried.

M - Beer is medium/semi-full bodied (a bit lighter than expected for the ABV), with a somewhat high carbonation. A bit much so for the style IMHO.

D - A pint or two is good.

Overall - A decent, but not great porter IMHO.

The Inkblot poured just like its name would infer. Dark black with not much for a head. The smell brings to mind dark fruit like plums and the mouthfeel is a little more substantive than what your would get with just the regular porter style. Not too bad of a beer. I don't see this style around very often and I tend to like the additional complexity as well as the kick compared to its little brother. It leaves a nice bitterness on the finish of the tongue. Overall a pretty good brew. Mine has been aging for a year.

Jeesh, this was hard to figure out. So this place is technically autonomous, although it's owned by Magic Hat and somehow distributed through or by Pyramid? Or something?

Anyhow, this was on tap at Pyramid in Seattle. I think it was billed as collaboration between MacTarnahan's and some artist, I think it was supposed to help raise money for some cause. (I really should have taken more thorough notes).

This is one of the smoothest strong Baltics I have ever drank. That's good and bad, since part of the joy of an intense Baltic Porter is the nice burniness they give you on the back of the tongue.

Ink Blot is rich, sweet, and chocolatey. It starts out so thick and smooth that it could be mistaken for a milk stout, but it gets a little more rough and warm near the middle--more like a porter--before ending on long, dry node of semisweet chocolate.
