Vertical Drop Robust Red AleVertical Drop Robust Red Ale
Notes: Fresh powder, single track, class V; gravity is our friend. The old school crew in the Valley might remember Vertical Drop as a long forgotten black diamond run on the Grand Mesa. A malty, hoppy, red ale with some weight to it.

12 ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Had 6/18/17.

Pours a dark amber, nearly a gusher with a huge head and a fair amount of lacing. Aromas of malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, light resiny hops. The taste is mostly the same- malt, caramel, brown sugar, a light hop bitterness throughout. Mostly smooth, a good medium body, way over carbonated.

Lots of malt, no real hop presence. Have no idea how old the bottle was, might have been a factor. Decent overall.

The beer pours a clear, beautiful mahogany red color with an enormous mountain of khaki head that made me think "uh-oh" for a bit. The visual was actually stunning.

The smell was pretty bland, dominated by sweet malt and dark fruit as it warmed. Just a bit of floral hops along for the ride in the back seat. I thought I got a whiff of soap a couple times.

The taste was sweetness initially, but a respectable bitterness kicks in to smooth things out a little. Getting a dark cherry kind of a taste, a little spicy phenolic bite and a floral or herbal note over the top. Caramel comes out as it warms more.

The feel is surprisingly light, but there is a bit of a burn on the finish that is not enjoyable and a metallic twang.

Overall, a middle of the road beer that I will drink in the fall. Not at all up there with the better reps of the style, but far from terrible. Can't say Ii would recommend it.

When I opened the bottle it foamed over so I was expecting an overly carbonated beer but was pleasantly surprised. It has a deep amber color with a HUGE head. A smell of molasses and a very smooth flavor. Good mouth feel and nice swallow. Overall a really good amber beer.

Microbrew of the month club selection. Poured into pint glass. 2 finger head disappeared fairly quick. Smell is a little copper and yeast. Taste yeast and malt, but not too much with coppery taste. Slightly metallic aftertaste lingers. Decent drinkable beer.

Kannah is a relatively new to Boise brewery... This 12oz bottle is from Whole Foods.

Clear brown.deep red brew... Red highlights when held to a light.. Nose shows coffee/dark toast more than anything resembling malt or hops.. weird.. Better "Beer" flavor thankfully shows dark toast and malt sweetness.. Dark toast on the finish with no real hops to speak of.. Okay brew for a group that just made the inroads. But seems a little flimsy, almost like a supermarket brand... I hope I'm wrong.

Bottle from On The Fly Gasmart. Nothing winter about this, metallic accents ruin aroma and flavor. Slightly sour, funky, musty, dry, chalky, but all in a bad way. Nothing hits the mark. Hoping for better on other styles.

From a 355 ml bottle ("Mfg." on December 2, 2014) into a nonic glass.

A-An aggressive pour produces a tall head of light khaki colored foam. Retention is pretty good and the beer leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. The brew is amber in color and clear with some active, fine carbonation.

S-The aroma is malty with notes of malted barley, grain, and a bit of nuttiness. The brew smells a bit earthy and metallic at times and provides just a bit of sweetness.

T-The taste, like the smell, is malt heavy, but not terribly flavorful. The off-putting metallic flavor creeps in a bit and gives the beer an earthy, tinny sweetness to go with malted barley and caramalt.

M-The beer is lighter in heft with a lighter amount of carbonation. Very easy to drink.

O-This is my first beer from Kannah Creek and it was not terribly impressive. I know that this is "just" and red/amber ale, but the flavors here were a bit thin and the metallic flavor was too much for me. On the plus side, the beer is good looking and easy to drink.
