It's a cool looking entrance below ground level but the brewing equipment is at the street level. The establishment has two levels, with a larger bar on the basement level and a small bar on the second level. Restrooms are upstairs in the back-an inconvenience if you're on the bottom level.
A nice selection of about 8 beers, ranging from a Belgium blond (not on tap) to an IPA, stout, and others. I had the IPA, rather light but bitter and somewhat spicy. An unusual beer but good. My second beer was a Belgium Red but not in the Rodenbach vane. Rather sweet and very spicy with a nice malt background. This place holds promise. I did not eat so cannot review the food. Rather different and unique. I will visit again next time I'm in Springfield.

I'd been wanting to go here for a while, and just did the other night. I got the beer sampler and the buffalo wings, and shared nachos with friends.
The sampler was a deal, with a tumbler of 8 different beers for $7. I liked the pilsner and blonde the best. The IPA was good for an IPA (not my favorite style). The stout was mellow and had alot of coffee malt. Everything else was good but not outstanding.
The wings were delicious. Probably the 2nd best wings I've had so far in Springfield (next to Big Whiskey's, maybe tied with or a little better than Springfield Brewing Co.'s wings). They weren't very saucy, but they were moist and flavorful and a decent size. At ten for $7 they're a decent value too, but they're half price on happy hour during the week.
The nachos were also really good, with steak, cheese, and sauteed onions and peppers (and great salsa when we asked for it). I also had some of my friends yams, which were very good; firm and not too sweet. I will definitely be back here for a Calamity Blonde and wings.

I am so glad I finally got around to checking this place out. I really enjoyed it. I loved the not so tacky western atmosphere I was afraid that this place might over do it but they did not. The menus are nice touch. They're done up like news papers and have cool facts and excerpts from old news papers on them. The staff was nice, polite and very knowledgeable. The beer selection is not bad but they were out of the seasonals the night we went but that just gives me an excuse to go back. The food was also good. I sampled some chicken fingers and I had the prime rib sandwich that went very well with the red ale.

The first thing that will grab you about hickok's is the environment very old western the downstairs is fairly simple with just the bar and a few tables. The upstairs has another bar and alot more to offer with the more quality atmosphere and the resturaunt. As a microbrewery goes i had the sampler and there are ones i can do without and ones that were very good, the red and the porter were among my two favorites, good selection and ussally something new to try. There food is very good as well with great quality steaks and burgers. I would like to see them branch out from traditional beers and try a few more "extreme"

I loved the atmosphere of this resteraunt/brewpub. Old western furniture and motif, they even had people dressed like cowboys and winches playing cards in the corner drinking whiskey. As far as the beer is concerned, I was not by any means impressed. I felt like some of the beers were even categorized wrong. They had a "Black Nell Stout" it was more like a Coffee Bock, it wasn't even stout. Others consisted of Blondes, American Lager, and some others, I was so un-impressed, I don't even remember what they had. The food was really good though, old western cuisine, but damn I wish the beer would have been better.
